Pre Build 13 Modpack

My game here was ruined twice now....I had to re-install everything right back up to scratch again.....with the same results. CTD's, crew losses, everything......I really would lke to know where I went wrong compared to Jason, the only thing I never touched or added was that test with the Code update and Non-Code update.....I was too late to help with that one so I bypast it, cause Pieter seemed to have found the problems then! So somewhere I have added or not added some file that makes my build very unstable....what??

<b>I can't even play a game with these terribly annoying bugs.....And it may be just my stubborn pride that if in order to play, I have to jack myself way up to higher levels so as to be able to work around that crew loss thing.</b>

If we have an understanding why or what did this, can't we replace a file or something....I just tried without success to install a new Sata2 Seagate Barracuda 300gig HD here last night, but it wont recognize the drive as boot....when I have that working, I have to ween off my 160 Gig HD which is stogged full. Maybe then I can have two POTC's to work with but again <b>IT is too bloody frustrating to have to play this way, especially the continual CTD's when ever I board ships...or try to sail in the Game World</b>

I agree with kblack. Although I should point out that this has been suggested befor. Many times.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />

Gentlemen: I agree with what you are saying, <b>BUT!!!!!!</b>

1st) Pieter has been honest and has even blamed himself for trying to add new stuff to the build after everyone thought he should stop, because they were neat, useable, really cool......whatever! And he has said he should have called it quits at an earlier date. But he did not! OK...so NOW we are trying to eliminate the bugs so we can have a stable build. ( <b>If he had help trying to fix some of these bugs NOW, he will be able to create a stable build</b> ) So maybe if we concentrate on fixing or help fix the known bugs instead of grilling or reminding Pieter of his folly, the better off we will be. Instead, everyone seems to be moving off or disappearing and we no longer seem to have the fixers we use to have!

2nd) I don't believe anyone has contributed any more too this great big Project than Pieter!!....a lot of you have contributed, that is not what I'm saying, BUT there is no one that has done more than! Lets not forget this fact when we suggest, rant (like me), or otherwise point out that we need to stop and otherwise point fingers.......<b>WE DO NOT</b> need this at this time in this great project or it will just DIE. And don't forget someone has to take over temporarily for Pieter in the near future.....WHO IS GOING TO DO THAT NASTY THANKLESS TASK WILLINGLY..........I would offer, got the space, but feel very insignificant compared to Pieter's knowledge, Patience, willingness, demeanor, and good heartedness...and soooooo much more, and I get to frustrated when things go wrong....Must be the "scottish" coming out in me...... So to everyone pull together, and lets kick this things ass, and then worry about the Post build 13...because we have a Build 13, just not bugfixed yet!! If we start deleting a lot of stuff now! we will still inheirit new bugs and will be no further ahead....

It is time to Parley, let the council sit! and if anyone pulls out the "black spot" on Pieter I'll gut them like trout!

Pieter what do you need help with....??? I will do what I can!!

For all the good it will do

Not my intention to blame on Pieter, but to give some feedback.

I was worried reading that new features or improvements, or whatever are still being put in the mod.

So, my recommendation is:

- Take out from the mod whatever feature that it's not completed and/or stable enough
- Put all of them, and new features, in Post Build 13
- Devote ALL our energies to bug fixing... on a enough stable version (i.e playable)

Even more, as I have suffered the old "bug fixing creates a new bug" situation, I suggest that each corrected bug should be published to the forum, well documented, to be inspected and, eventually, accepted before going into a new update.

But it's just my opinion.
I'll never blame on Pieter.

Kblack.

Ok here is a new problem: After playing for weeks with the May 3 update and the Guiolotto fix including several hours today, My game won't load at all. This error message shows up.

Error: Techniques: Find Duplicate: bladeitem

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

there were references to errors with bladeitems when we printed out all those bugs reports for the CTD's. In fact I believe that Pieter said the problems were in the inventory stuff somewhere that is why he pulled gunpowder there for awhile, makes you wonder where the problems arise.

As for a slight switch in topic, I have notice a pause, almost a speed drop in loading up different ships for repairs or adding new guns in the shipyard. So there is still a major problem there. If I pick one of the other slots, the game strangles itself for about 30 seconds, before continuing. Almost like it was running that "I" initialization routine for length and pausing. what is it about shipyards that seem to cause problems ??

I'm sorry. I know about nothing of all those new bugs. Schoollife is rather more busy than I would like, so I don't have as much spare time as I need. I am currently working on putting all available mods into one pack. I do this just for my own personal use; I am not going to release it yet. The reason I do this, is because it will be much easier to take out parts if all parts are merged together first. Once it's merged together, I am going to put the bugfixes only into the March 5 update and see if it is any good.

BTW: When I first started putting everything together, I knew hardly anything of the way PotC works. So anyone could do it if they'd want to. I first started by making some very minor mods, such as clarifying Rys Bloom's dialog (it was a bit unclear at times) and I made a mod where Toff Oremans would give you an excellent Saber of Nicholas Sharp instead of an average one. Those were truly simple mods to begin with. Then I started putting other people's mods together (and made some great mess-ups). Once Nathan told me of the program WinMerge, everything went much better. Using that program, you can make a comparision between codebases and merge them together the way it should work best. Of course, I am still not very knowledgeable about the PotC code, which illustrates itself in the fact that I still seem to make serious mess-ups. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Well restarting the computer fixed my loading problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Pieter, I am sure I speak for all of us when I say your work is greatly appreciated.

Hey No Fair Jason: Your double dippin thar feller!!

I agree Pieter, you have done more good here than ever you could do wrong....so lets put all that aside and behind us, and get those bugs out......I was interested in trying some stuff, but it is more challenging when you try an figure it out by yourself....anyway I did send you an email, or PM earlier but apparently it must have gone astray.....

P.S. It is sad that CCC is busy cause despite what he says he probably is the closes we had to bug fixer.....I guess there were others around but seemed to be moved on......Have you had any luck with the crew casualties yet??? that is the main one that really depresses me!.....it just keeps happening in my game...it will not stop no matter what level i reach, and the taverns are starting to empty...wish I knew a cheat to fix that, or beef up my own levels...

Gentlemen:

IMHO, if we want to have a Build 13 modpack sometime during our lives, we have to STOP any CHANGES or IMPROVEMENTS.

From now on, it should be only accepted <b><u>bug fixing.</u>
</b>

no more mods, improvements, new characters, new ships, new textures.... all of them should go to a new repository called "Post Build 13"

Just my opinion. Please don't shoot the pianist :)

The crew lost is due to new boarding mod, I've try to replace lai_boarding.c from 05/03/04 and this problem expired. But there are other problem related to this mod, I think that the only one that can fix it is Maximum that wrote it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I reported it to Maximus, so he will probably try fixing it eventually. But at the moment, he works on replacing towns with AoP ones. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
I might be able to try and make a comparision between the two lai_boarding.c files and see if I can merge a properly working version. Not sure if I'll manage though. I will try when I have time (whenever that might be... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> ).

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

EEEEWWWW!!!!....New Towns......Crew Losses......New Towns......Crew Losses....I can't make up me bleedin mind...

I like that answer...thought maybe Maximus had fallen off the planet or something.

Pieter, its too bad he didnt give a little tip on how to increase the slots for items, some poeple around here abouts would like to look into that?

I take it putting an older file back in just won't work..eh? too bad

I really got to be playin around with that winmerge thingy majiggy

Was there an older file that had more slots in the trade book interface? If you were talking about the crew losses, you can try putting an older version of LAi_boarding.c into your installation and see what happens. you can also do a WinMerge comparision on the most recent LAi_boarding.c and the one from the 5 March release.

I suppose that Maximus wants to do something he likes at the moment instead of fixing bugs. I can understand that. At one point, I quit trying to fix bugs as well and instead made the bladedamage mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Sorry, ya I guess I did kinda get off track there.

1st) No there was no previous interface that had more slots. What I was saying there, was just ask Maximus if he could tell us a little hint, tip, throw us a bone, or even point in a direction, then those guys in the other threads could look into increasing slots on their own. Maximus could continue working on whatever. They may not find anything til he finishes what he is enjoying now....heheheh....and have to do it all anyway but ya never know

2nd) So, this person ( me ) that has never used WinMerge before can look at the two files....now and earlier and compare and fix "all" our problems with crew losses and all this with no previous experience.....

Boy do you have faith in me or what!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />

3rd) and no one can blame anyone for doing something even to get a break from something else. Take some of these projects I would like to work on now.........I really can't until I get more space on my hard drive......bought a 300 gig Sata2 HD and can't seemed to get it working with the one (160 gig sata HD) I got now. [If there are any geniouses out there that can help feel free They dont work like normal IDE ones...] I formatted the new one, copied over old with "ghost" and then tried to reconfigure C drive settings.....nADA!! But anyway I got less then 3 gig free here and cannot delete or add anything until I free up some room

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter,

I've already try to put an older version of Lai_Boarding.c into new POTC+Postbuild.
So the crew problem is solving but a new problem occurs, when you boarding a ship with little cabin (class6) the enemy crew is under the deck and you can't end the fight <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> Bye,bye,
giuliootto

It should be possible to merge the old and new versions of Lai_boarding.c into a properly working version, shouldn't it? Maybe the problem with the crew appearing below the deck has to do with the locators on the deck. Use the 5 March boarding deck model files as well and see if that fixed anything.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter,

Yesterday I try to restore the 05 March boarding system (boarding cabin model & boarding program files) and it seems work rightly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

No more crew problem or enemy under cabin deck <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But so I have renounced to the surrender captain dialog in his cabin for the old ransack menu <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
This is good for me (while Maximum will write a fix for his mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ).

If you are interested on this "fix" tonight I will test a bit and then I will put it on the ftp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> Bye,bye,

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Matey,

I just upload in ftp.piratehaoy.org a file named giuliootto_fix_170506.zip

This file contained all my previous fix plus a previous release of the Boarding mod that have any of the trouble found in the last 30-04-06 Mod.

Be aware that the version in my fix does not have enemy surrender captain dialog but the old ransak dialog box <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

But enemy captured Captain is still in your deck <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I've also restored the stock POTC cabin during boarding to avoid problems with enemy under water.
however every ship still have own different cabin <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

PS
I would suggest to make a backup of you original files <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

PS2
I not sure if a new game is required <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> probably not <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> Bye,bye,
