Might be a good idea. I'm a bit lost then about what's wrong as well. In any case: Try to get the full Build 14 Alpha 5 version instead of the update; might make a difference.
 
downloads go wrong a lot of the time. or at least in a small part. that's what causes all those wierd bugs that some people have, most of the time.

I wish I could. But unfortunaly your site and FTP is down. And I don't know where I can get the files now.

Look like it works but not faultless. I've got two download stops but with the download manager I can go on downloading where it stops.
Could take more than one hour to download it cause my connection is not fastest but I try it.

Now I got the full Build 14 alpha 5 version and a clean PotC installation
What should I say? Bad news, it won't work either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

Again I got a runtime error at startup.
Error.log shows following error code.

HUH? That is just plain impossible! The Build 14 Alpha 5 contains both reinit.c <i>and</i> MAXIMUS_functions.c, so the original files should be overwritten. The Alpha 5 reinit.c file does NOT include the CreateTwinCharacter function and the MAXIMUS_functions.c does include it. Make sure you download and install the FULL version of Build 14 Alpha 5 available <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/pietersmods/potc_downloads/build14/build14_alpha5.zip" target="_blank">here</a>.

Or wait until Alpha 6 finished uploading. Alpha 6 will only be available as full download and not as update, because the full download is 357 MB and the update would be about 250 MB. So once Alpha 6 is available, that MUST work.
 
Maybe it is impossible. But that's excactly the error message I've got. I can't start the game anymore.

I've got the full version yesterday from the link you gave me before. And the second link don't work. URL can not be found.

Looks like there is something wrong with your webspace. The first link isn't working, too.
But I think there where no differences between the two versions or do you make two different versions of Build 14 Full Alpha 5? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
 
Sorry; I'm currently uploading Alpha 6 and I think I might have removed Alpha 5 from my webspace. Please wait a couple of hours and get Alpha 6 then. See <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=9081&view=findpost&p=182421" target="_blank">here</a>.
 
i saw another bug in build 14 alpha 5: when the relations appear in the top left of the screen after you sink a ship or any other situation when it happens, friendly, hostile, neutral and letter of marque (not sure about the last one) do appear, but when you have been promoted at least once it says nothing behind the nation.

for instance:

france - hostile
spain - neutral
england -

as i said, i'm not sure wether it also happens when you have a LOM.
 
That sounds like a bug with the translation mod. Probably just a missing line in one of the RESOURCE\INI files. Though I don't know exactly which line that is. Should be an easy fix if anyone bothers to try to find out,
 
i think it has something to do with the bug that caused your new title when you increased your reputation not to appear. it's likely to be the same problem. it's not that important, just one of those things that need ironing out.
