Thank you Joruba!!!!
SO MUCH for finally coming forward to respond to questions from the PA! player/modder community/population.
I can tell you that we are all very curious and extremely hopeful and excited about Pirates Odyssey.
I knew that this couldn't just be another mod for COAS, because I tried using some of the files from your module folder and they were non-compatable. Also some of the models won't work in COAS because they have the animations from old AOP: Caribbean Tales. You guys made all those models work together in POTEHO. The amount of content is incredible and WAY too much for just a mod as well..... So I knew this couldn't just be another mod - but a whole brand spankin new game.
Now that we know this for sure, I would like to make an announcement on PA's main News page. But I would like to get as many details possible about tentative release dates, new content, etc.... I know I can speak for PA! that we would love to promote attention on your efforts as much as possible so that you get lots of exposure (and sales revenue) in English speaking countries.
I would just comment on the question posed by Takeda-One..... It is my opinion that Akella's other games such as COAS, - would never have enjoyed their continuing popularity and would never have been sold in the large quantities that they have (in the west) if it weren't for all the mods that this community has built into them.
So the obvious conclusion should be that if you "hardcode" PO:TEHO and make it unmodifiable, it will be popular for six months to a year and then be completely forgotten.
If you allow it to be open and fully mod-able, then it will enjoy a long term period of popularity and growing fan-base that will just make it even better over years of time --- as in the case of POTC and COAS.
The decision is yours. I can say I am really enjoying all the new visual RESOURCE file (model/texture) content that you guys made. It would be a pity if all we can ever do is simply export that stuff into other mods instead of be able to fully enjoy and enhance the original game it all came from.
Last, I am an independent part time technology consultant currently that is heavily tied to the gaming industry. I have lots of free time on my hands these days, so let me know if you would like my help in any way.
