ok so you have the latest beta( 8 ) you need the other(and bigger files) first. Go to Pieters site(link in his sig just above the beta( 8 ) link).

Go to 'Downloads'

You will need:

1. Build 12.1(full) - thats near the top
2. pre-build13(base) - somewhere in the middle

(both those are large files)

3. and the Beta8 file you just downloaded(i think)

start at no1(12.1(full)) and follow the install steps on the right through each step, each step installs ontop of the previous - the whole process will be listed somewhere. It sounds(reads) bad, but its not too tricky <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

If its all gone ok you should be able to start a game from your PotC Icon on your desktop.

Or you could wait untill the weekend and get just the one large download that will incorporate all these smaller steps in one easy install?

I am dowloading 13.9 right now . Thats all I need to install correct ?

or do I still have to go download 12.1 ???????

The different post and updates are confusing the crap out of me ...have mercy...

Untill Build 13(full) [thats the complete finsihed version of this build] is out - probably sometime tomorrow i'm guessing, you will still need 12.1(Full) [thats the last complete finished version].

If you dont want to wait untill tomorrow(when it will be a much simpler process - in theory!) then go here:

13.9 by itself is not going to work - it needs both 12.1(full)[77.7mb] AND the build13(base)[296mb] files to be installed first. Then you install 13.9 ontop of those.

It is a bit tricky(it confused we quite nicely at first - and still catches me out on occasion) and your best bet might be to wait for when it will all be put in one download with one easy install?

I sort of already learned the hard way by trying to play the game with just 13.9...I thought the post implied that was the only one I needed and the DOS box type file sorter had me convinced...

BTW do the codes...# 5-6-7-8-9- work ?

Or is that something I have to eneable in the files...

believe me I have been searching and reading...but I'm 2 years behind the curve it seems .

This is insane...I'm installing a base 12.1

Then on top of THAT I am installing ANOTHER base 13..

THEN on top of that I am installing 13.9...........

So please tell me the shortcut keys to the cheats are still in the build....

c for potions...the 5 6789 for other things...

I start the game it keeps saying build mod 13.0.0.0

I put the 13.9 buid into the folder twice now...

There is no Build 13.9. We're not almost done with Build 14, but wih Build 13! It is Build 13.0 Beta 9 we are talking about.

Anyway: The cheats are in there and can be enabled by setting ENABLE_CHEATMODE to 1 in BuildSettings.h. The cheats are used with the Numpad buttons.

Why ? ...... Because after spending a few hours dowloading and installing and going through folders , then playing through the tutorial and attempting to navigate the interface and get used to it a little bit -I wanted to...... really badly I might add......... -board my ship and Instantly be blown to bits , by some far away ship , that may have been called a Portugese something....I wouldn't know........ I was really busy watching my ship sink after a few shots hit it and then I was a row boat .

Other then that I was pissed at AOP for crashing every five to ten minutes or during any battle or boarding or change of screens.

I think today I will go have my testicles pierced with 15 or 16 rings on each side and then pound some nails into my skull with a small rubber hammer .

I think I was warned not to use my English flag and I forgot to change it...so they blew the living poopdeck outta me.

its Ok I been getting sunk regular like....I try to board and no matter how close I get NO iccon to board comes up so I either get a close range broadside or I sink from crashing into ships.

Other than that ...I am using build 13.9 btw...its all good ..

Ohh..... I also cant change the names of ships without the game freezing up...you end up rooted in place with no commands working .

But I got to Berth a captured ship I was no way ready for !!!

That alone was worth the trouble .

Provided there's no bugs when I go get it back...

And since it wont let me board ships ...I now enabled the cheat codes...just gotta figure out what they do...I did manage to get killed by about 13 French Marines all attacking me at once...whomever came up with that code has a very ODD sense of humor...I love it !!

And I hope officers are easy to find ...cause I keep getting mine killed ...

Can you equip your officers ????

Yep, changing your officers gears is done by standing facing the officer you want to work on, then bring up your command interface(enter by default), choose exchange, you will then get a trade window. Or you can go to the character sheet, pull up the officer you want to modify, and press the exchange button in the lower right, again, the trade window will pop up.

Either way, your personal inventory is the upper row, what your officer has is the lower row. Anything that is usable can be given to them, and they will use it(if it needs a skill to use, you will need to make sure they have that skill). That includes potions, the powder horn or bullet bag, armor, etc.

1. Flags yep if you choose 'British' flag at game start - you need to change it before leaving Oxbay(there are french ships+a new fench fort out there!).

2. Changing ships names(or char names) - just click on the name box - use delete to get rid of the old name, type your new one and press ENTER to get back to the game.

3. Boarding can be tricky it helps if you have some boarding skills and/or perks - now it 'should' also work if you have an active boatswain in one of your party officer slots, but there is some debate currently over which officers and which of their skills are currently working properly in the 'combined' party officer calculations.
Try making sure you have a decent boatswain and put them in your active party officer list - that should help with boardings.

4. to equipe your officers - make sure they are in one of the 3 available slots in the 'passenger' screen. If they are down the bottom in the same place as your chars icon - then they are 'equiped'

LOL. That's the rapid raid mod that is triggered with the numpad 9 key. Instant French invasion. Pretty useless, but fun anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" :wp

About the namechanging of your ship: Did you click the name, then press Backspace, type in the new name, then press Enter to confirm? No its happened three times in a row so I stopped doing it. As soon as I press enter you hear a "ding" and your done..

they made it even worse once in the shipyard when I did it by accident...

They laughed at me when I drew my sword .

I was by myself and there were about 14 or 15 of them.....they started cracking kokes about me...and my "sword" told me to go home to mommy before I hurt meself.

You are supposed to hear the "ding" and the keyboard controls are supposed to be changed then. After yuou heard the "ding", press Backspace, then type in the new name and press Enter to confirm. Or press Esc to cancel the namechanging. You shouldn't end up stuck. If you still do, try resetting the controls to default in the options menu and see if that fixes anything.
