Making a New Lifeboat

I know its a bit off topic by now, but while we are waiting for Inez Diaz to reply, I off course HAD to test this.
Look what happened, when I "consoled" my way to the lifeboat.

A 3991% hull? It actually worked i 3rd person, the game did´nt crash until I entered 1 person deck mode <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I tried to set the "boat" model as my own boat as well, but that wouldn't work. Crashed when I went to sea. Lack of data, obviously. So still needs some work. And sails.

that's a tartane made of solid rock mate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> and where's the crew gone off to?

LOL! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Again when i agree with morgan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The boat would crash there because it's missing the camera locator which is required when you go to "on deck" view.

Thats noted. Anyway, the rowing boat looks silly when you sail off, because there is no rowing actions from any of the 3 people in the boat...

KevinAtlanta put a square sail on the tartane. See <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=11020&view=findpost&p=223544" target="_blank">here</a>. We could use that one as the new lifeboat. Or would anyone still be willing to try putting a sail on the rowboat?

I remember having suggested the tartane with square sail, as in the first movie.
You said you wanted the rowboat, so I dropped it. (had already done movie screen shots for research on how it should look) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=223059:date=Nov 24 2007, 06:15 PM:name=Petros)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Petros @ Nov 24 2007, 06:15 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Now, if what people want is a boat like "Jack Sparrow" uses at the beginning of CotBP, to make the game more "movie like", then just add a square sail to a Tartane.

It is after all, a small fishing boat!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I had only ever meant to suggest the row boat as a possibility. I would be fine with anything other than the row boat as well. Apparently I gave the wrong impression, which was not my intention. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Moving right along ...

... this is as small as I can get the Tartane and still use it's original path.gm.

Trying to use Tool to resize the path only produces major crashes.

Note that the crew are the 12% reduced ones, and I don't think it looks too bad.

Edit: Forget all this.

Even though I managed to resize the Tartane using Tool without any decrease in file size, Tool has not been able to translate all data properly.

Collision data must be messed up, or perhaps never changed from the original model.

Moving through the water, the ship produces abnormal under water wakes at the bow, something I believe Kazeite, mentioned once.

With the Tartane, they are like underwater claws extending from the bow. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Just tried an experiment.

I shrunk a Tartane down to 2/3 original with Tool and put it to sail. Those strange "water claws" appeared.

I resized it back to normal using Tool again and the wakes were normal again.

I'm guessing that Tool may not loose or corrupt collision data concerning movement in water after all.
It just ignores it. Making a ship smaller, in this case, makes the wake inappropriate for the ships new size/shape.

Of course, this doesn't really help us, does it.

That's unfortunate. It looked so good in your screenshot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
I suppose we'll need to keep the lifeboat on normal tartane size then. Thanks for trying, Petros! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

And I only noticed it "after" I got the boat to look just like I wanted. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

what's wrong with it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

the wake's gone. to be honest, it looks better without, but i bet it's in an odd place now is it?

<!--quoteo(post=223986:date=Dec 1 2007, 12:27 PM:name=Cylon13)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Cylon13 @ Dec 1 2007, 12:27 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->what's wrong with it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The "claw like" bow wake problem I described above in other posts.

I guess it's hard to visualize <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> , I'll try to get a screen shot up.

<!--quoteo(post=223988:date=Dec 1 2007, 12:28 PM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Morgan Terror @ Dec 1 2007, 12:28 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->the wake's gone. to be honest, it looks better without, but i bet it's in an odd place now is it?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
No, it's there. That's how I fell for it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
Didn't notice it at all until the very end. from 3rd person outside the ship, from certain angles it is very noticeable! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
