Limiting ships to certain nations

I mean this. Thomas the Terror already came up with values for some ships. Example here:
Code:
Ship: Amsterdam
Period
refShip.period0 = 0.0; //
refShip.period1 = 0.4; //
refShip.period2 = 0.6; //
refShip.period3 = 0.8; //
refShip.period4 = 1.0; //
refShip.period5 = 0.9; //
Nation
refShip.england = 0.0; //
refShip.france = 0.0; //
refShip.holland = 1.0; //
refShip.portugal = 0.0; //
refShip.pirate = 0.0; //
refShip.spain = 0.0; //

Ship: Barque1
Period
refShip.period0 = 0.2; //
refShip.period1 = 0.6; //
refShip.period2 = 0.9; //
refShip.period3 = 1.0; //
refShip.period4 = 0.6; //
refShip.period5 = 0.5; //
Nation
refShip.england = 0.8; //
refShip.france = 0.9; //
refShip.holland = 0.6; //
refShip.portugal = 0.5; //
refShip.pirate = 0.7; //
refShip.spain = 0.4; //

Ship: Barque2
Period
refShip.period0 = 0.2; //
refShip.period1 = 0.6; //
refShip.period2 = 0.9; //
refShip.period3 = 1.0; //
refShip.period4 = 0.6; //
refShip.period5 = 0.5; //
Nation
refShip.england = 0.7; //
refShip.france = 0.8; //
refShip.holland = 0.7; //
refShip.portugal = 0.6; //
refShip.pirate = 0.9; //
refShip.spain = 0.4; //
He has values until Cutter2. See attached for the full file.

The list is FINISHED! See <a href="http://s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/ships.htm" target="_blank">here</a>!
Now it's up to you history buffs to come up with good values in order to finish this mod!!!

i think i more or less explained that in my ships' list. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> at least, the info there can serve as a guideline for others.

Why don't you try do help Morgan? It is a lot easier for Pieter if everyone who can do it, helps. I have enough to do (POTC related, and NON-POTC related). So if you please, please help a bit, you don't need to finish the whole list, even if you do 10 stock ones, the others can base the numbers for the variations better.

i can't find my last list. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> the old one's in this topic, but that one's far from perfect. i need my newest. any idea where i posted it?

nope, not there. the list in this topic is the old one. the new one is somewhere else. but i'll take another look.

Do I really have to beg on my knees in order to get some help with this? Seriously I cannot do this on my own. Really I can not. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

i would help, but i can't find the list. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> where DID it go?

That's what you get when making so many posts: Makes it hard to find yer old ones! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
Your list might be somewhere in <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11512&hl=" target="_blank">this</a> thread. Is <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11512&view=findpost&p=237174" target="_blank">this</a> the one?
Preferrably could you make the list similar to Thomas the Terror's <i>Shiplist_Amsterdam_Cutter2.doc</i>? That way I can easily turn it into code to put in ships_init.c.

very true. :facepalm anyway, i found it again. i won't be doing anything with the big ships, because i've got those dates wrong and lack info. i've also added the first period. i've added the values behind the ship names. the galleon info in the second period has been updated. (note: some values might be a bit wonky. i didn't check the value of the previous [eriod when deciding the value of that same ship in the next)

<b>Early Explorers (1500-1599)</b>
Ships:

this is slightly complicated. almost al the ships of this period haven't been made yet. new ships, or at least new rigging types, are required. therefor, i'll be adding more info than usual.

<b>caravels:</b> it would actually be possible to put the santa maria in this period. it's a caravel, and was still afloat in this period. in fact, the caravel's hull is fairly similar. the santa maria could serve as the base of a new ship type.

<b>santa maria rigging (1.0):</b>

three masts. mizzen has a lateen. main mast a mainsail and small topsail. (very small in fact, one third of the width of the mainsail. though it might be increased to a more normal size to serve as a ship type standard) foremast has a single square sail. also a spritsail on the bowsprit, which is the same size as the topsail. the foremast is a little bit shorter than the height of the yard of the mainsail, and the mizzen is the same length. the main mast is in the middle of the ship, the foremast in the middle of the foredeck, and the mizzen just in front of the cabin.

<b>caravela redonda (0.9):</b>

same as the santa maria, but without the topsail and spritsail. also slightly smaller. mizzen is placed on the very back of the vessel, against the wooden bulwark/rail/board. a pole sticks out of the stern which holds the lower corner of the lateen sail. hull is in fact quite similar to the sloop.

<b>lateen-rigged caravel (caravela latina)(0.6):</b>

based upon the caravela redonda, but the foremast has been removed. the main mast has been placed slightly more forward, and another mast has been placed between the mizzen and the main mast. (thus becoming the new mizzen. the former mizzen would now be called the bonaventura) each mast has one lateen sail, the foremost being the biggest, then the mizzen, and then the bonaventura, thus becoming smaller towards the stern. it doesn't have a bowsprit.

<b>french caravel(0.7):</b>

bigger version of the caravel latina. basically the same design, but with a bowsprit and a foremast with a square mainsail and topsail in front of the main mast with the lateen sail. the main mast is still bigger than the foremast.

all caravel types where used in this period.

<b>galleon:</b>

here's where it gets interesting. the galleon went through an immense developement in this period.

<b>1520's galleon (based upon the Santa Catarina do Monte Sinai)(0.6):</b>

original galleon hull, needs a retexture to display square shields along the sides, lots of planking visible.

rigging:

four masts. mizzen mast and bonaventura mast both have one lateen sail. the mainmast and foremast both have a mainsail and topsail, the topsails being half the width of the mainsail and a third of it's height. also a spritsail. lots of flags, especially on the hull itself.

<b>1540's galleon(0.8):</b> same rigging as 1520's galleon, more colourful appearance. more shrouds.

<b>1550's galleon(0.8):</b> here's where they go nuts. the rigging hardly seems sensible. huge amounts of guns, mostly light caliber.

rigging: four masts once again. the main mast now has a topgallant sail above the topsail, and the mizzen has another lateen sail above the excisting lateen sail. a pole sticks backwards out of the crow's nest to tie the lower corner of the sail to.

<b>Henry Grâce á Dieu, 1545(???):</b> not supposed to be in the caribbean, but would be fun to have nonetheless. also known as 'Great Harry' by the english. it had 251 cannons.

rigging:

mainsails, topsails and topgallants on the foremast and main mast. the topsail is half the width and height of the mainsail, and the topgallant is half the width and height of the topsail. huge spritsail. lateen sail above the bonaventura lateen sail. THREE lateen sails above each other on the mizzen mast. hooks where mounted on the main yards to cut through enemy rigging.

<b>english galleon, 1588(1.0):</b> some of the most graceful looking galleons that excisted. now designed for speed and beauty. not unlike the excisting galleon, but longer and lower.

rigging:

the silly topsail and topgallant lateen sails are gone. now both the mizzen and bonaventura have a single lateen sail. one spritsail. the foremast and main mast have a mainsail, topsail and topgallant. the sails are now sized more like the excisting galleon, only decreasing slightly in size towards the top. rather short bowsprit.

<b>dutch 'galleon', 1590(0.7):</b> they can still be called galleons, though they look more like the fleut and pinnace now.

rigging type 1:

same as the 1550's galleon, but with small topgallants. the topsails are the same size as the mainsails. the topgallants are about half the width and a third of the height of the topsails.

rigging type 2:

simple rigging, with three masts. one lateen on the mizzen, and a topsail and mainsail on the mainmast and foremast. all square sails are the same size, except the spritsail, which is about half the size. nice and orderly looking ship.

(note: the english galleon is more or less what was used in the next period as well)

cutters(0.6): of course, these things did excist. however, the ships where rigged with a fore-to-aft spritsail which is seen a lot on small dutch yachts these days. the problem is, this sail can't be made for the game, so we'll have to use a slightly less historically accurate version with a gaff.

<b>in short: santa maria-rigged caravel (name?)(1.0), caravela redonda(0.9), caravela latina(0.6), french caravel(0.7), 1520's galleon(0.6), 1540's galleon(0.8), 1550's galleon(0.8), english galleon(1.0), dutch galleon(0.7), cutters(0.6), tartane(1.0), war tartane used as very small caravel(1.0), lugger(0.9), possibly fleut (no info), maybe 'great harry'.</b>

<b>The Spanish Main (1600-1680) (maybe the period should be shifted to slightly earlier, 1580 to 1680)</b>
Ships:

<b>caravels(0.2):</b> not actually built anymore, but a few old ships still remain. Vigila Mendes' quest should take place in this period. (he's got a caravel, and his dialogue fits)

<b>galleons(1.0, but only certain types. details in summary and below):</b> these beasts having largely replaced the caravels, now is the time of their prime. a re-rigged version with lateens on two masts and square-rigged on the main and fore mast might be required, as the excisting version is already fairly modernly rigged for the period. (it might be interesting to know that the black pearl's design actually already excisted in the middle of this period)

<b>1610's galleon(1.0):</b>

rigging type 1:

as said before, galleons are here very much like the english galleon of this period, and that galleon still excists here. another type of galleon also excists: a lateen sail above the mizzen lateen sail and a very small upper spritsail on a small pole on the very long bowsprit.

rigging type 2:

the bonaventura mast dissapeared somewhere about here. then it was largely replaced by the stock game galleon's rigging.

<b>chebecs(0.3, actually not in caribbean):</b> though not actually belonging here, they did excist.

<b>fleut(0.7):</b> excisted in this period. they where largely replaced by pinnaces in 1669, so they don't excist in the next period, though a few rare ones might remain. the AOP fleut most definately belongs here.

<b>pinnace(0.4):</b> introduced at the very end of the period.

<b>cutters(1.0):</b> excisted. all types can be used, and in all periods after this one.

i do not know about the frigate here. although they appeared at the end of the period, it would be best to leave them out, because they might be endangering the leading role of galleons, which really needs to be kept for this period.

<b>16-gun brig(0.6):</b> excists, but all other brig types should be left out of this period. however! the new version of the brigantine, with the square topsail on the mizzen mast, DID excist in this period. the original brigantine, however, did not.

<b>yacht and barque: (doubtful)</b> i'm not sure here. the term yacht did excist, but those ships where very much like the cutters, and not at all like the yachts we have in the game. their design was more commonly used in the next period, so i'd leave them out here. petros' smuggler barque belongs here.

<b>ketch:(0.7)</b> belongs here. predecessor of the schooner. no actual schooners just yet.

<b>lugger(1.0):</b> a very old vessel. primarily used by pirates, smugglers and the coastguard. exclusively french in this period.

<b>in short: ketch(0.7), galleon(1.0), caravel(0.2), smuggler barque(0.5(old caravel, but found a new purpose)), chebec(0.3), 16-gun brig(0.6), all cutters(1.0), pinnace(0.4), fleut(0.7), AOP fleut(1.0), luggers(1.0), NEW version of brigantine with topsail(0.8), 1610's galleons(1.0), english galleon(0.8), dutch galleon(0.9). (note: the tartane was used in all periods)</b>

<b>The Golden Age (1680-1740)</b>
Ships:

<b>frigate(0.6):</b> most definately belongs here. appeared right at the beginning of the period and lasted all the way through. no corvettes yet.

<b>pinnace(0.8):</b> the pinnace from the game in particular is from 1725. the round quarterdeck rail excisted in the middle of the 1700's. fleuts will likely have dissapeared, though a few lone wonderers might still sail the seas.

<b>barques and yachts(0.6):</b> all of them in this period.

<b>brigs(variable):</b> no more 16-gun brigs, but all others where sprouting up everywhere.

<b>schooners(variable):</b> the regular schooners are here, as well as the fast schooners. maybe war schooners as well, although i'm not sure. i'd put them in. petros' rum runner isn't here just yet, as it appeared in 1760.

<b>sloops(0.8):</b> all except the bermuda sloop excist. petros' ketch is of course included.

in short: frigates(0.6), sloop (0.8)(no bermuda sloop), ketch(0.7), lugger(1.0), tartane(1.0), brig(1.0), brigantine(0.7), 20-gun brig(0.8), shnyava(0.6), (no 16-gun brig) schooner(0.8), fast schooner(0.5), war schooner(0.4), (not petros' rum runner) cutters(1.0), barques(0.6), yachts(0.6), pinnace(0.8). (fleut a distinct possibility)

<b>Colonial Powers (1740-1770)</b>
Ships:

<b>schooners(variable):</b> now, all schooners excist, including petros' rum runner.

<b>brigs(vairable):</b> same as for previous age, but now the privateer has been introduced.

<b>sloops(variable):</b> all sloops, including bermuda sloop.

<b>frigates(variable :facepalm ):</b> the original frigate does excist, but a new version with a gaff instead of a lateen sail is required.

<b>corvettes(0.3):</b> though this might be a dare, ships close to these did sail the seas. preferably, i'd only include the pirate corvette here, as pirates often made their ships flush-decked (though the corvettes still have a small quarterdeck). this would be an ex-frigate or ex-east-indiaman.

<b>lineships and warships:</b> though these did excist in the previous period, they would have only actually come to the carribean in this one.

the pinnace actually didn't excist anymore, i think. the design, however, was maintained, but it was now more heavily armed. a new model could be nessesary. preferably, they should be replaced by east-indiamen.

<b>in short: frigates with lateen(0.7), frigate with gaff(0.5), pirate corvette(0.3), lineships, warships, brig(0.8), brigantine(1.0), 20-gun brig(0.6), shnyava(0.5), privateer(0.8), sloop(1.0), bermuda sloop(0.6), ketch(0.8), cutters(1.0), schooner(0.9), war schooner(0.6), fast schooner(0.8), rum runner(1.0), barques(0.7), yachts(0.6), tartane(1.0), ketch(0.7), lugger(1.0), heavily armed pinnace/east-indiaman(0.8).</b>

<b>Revolutions (1770-1790)</b>
Ships:

almost the same as the previous period, but with some additions:

battleships: i'd include battleships here, maybe only to make a difference. however, it might be better to only introduce them in the next age.

<b>war tartane and gunboat:</b> yes, they have finally appeared. those wacky swedes (no offence) started mounting all kinds of artillery on small ships, and thus created lots of experimental craft, including these.

<b>corvettes:</b> now, all versions of the corvette would excist, to compete with those pirate corvettes.

<b>in short: frigates (now only with gaff)(0.6), all corvettes(0.7), lineships, warships, brig(0.8), brigantine(1.0), 20-gun brig(0.4), shnyava(0.3), privateer(0.9), sloop(1.0), bermuda sloop(1.0), ketch(0.6), cutters(0.8), schooner(0.9), war schooner(0.6), fast schooner(0.7), rum runner(0.8), barques(0.5), yachts(0.5), tartane(1.0), ketch(0.5), lugger(1.0), east-indiaman(0.8), gunboat(0.7), war-tartane(0.6), possibility of battleships.</b>

<b>The Corsican (1790-1820) </b>
Ships:

again, almost the same. however, now even the manowars have taken to the seas and wrest domination of it from the other, weaker vessels and forts.

Could you not do it as posted <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11098&view=findpost&p=241567" target="_blank">above</a>? This is really not handy for me. Pretty please? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

as long as you read the added info in my previous post. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> it's quite important. it also includes various non-excisting ships which need rigging up.

also, i'll need a full list of ships.

Full list of ships <a href="http://s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/ships.htm" target="_blank">here</a>.
At the moment I don't particularly care about ship types that should yet be added, because what nobody makes can never be added. For now I'll be satisfied if we can get the ships we currently have assigned to the proper nations and periods.

I think if we do this work correctly, we can finally fix the problem of too many large ships in the game. Right now the chance for a certain ship type appearing depends mostly on how many ships of that type are in the game. We have more big than small ships, therefore small ships are more rare than big ones. Here is finally the opportunity to fix that!

my main problem now is that i wouldn't have a clue on how common the really big ships would be or in which period they belong. i suggested some new ships for the first period in that list i posted. they are all based upon galleons, but all need adjusted rigging. not too drastical changes though. in fact, quite a few of the excisting galleon textures could be used for a single ship type with new rigging. the reason for the adjustment in rigging is because we have a major gap in the timeline here. we don't have ANY old galleons which most definately would be in the first period. we only have galleons and caravels from the second period or the very end of the first. no new ships would have to be made, but some of them would need new rigging.

<!--quoteo(post=242022:date=Feb 29 2008, 12:22 PM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Morgan Terror @ Feb 29 2008, 12:22 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=242022"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The Spanish Main (1600-1680) (maybe the period should be shifted to slightly earlier, 1580 to 1680)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Personally I very much agree with that.

i'll make most of the list, for as far as i can, believe me. but i'll be a bit busy with all that last-minute stuff i've been postponing.

Rigging is not the only thing what needs fixing on some ships in our game ..alot of ships in our game have missing or just screwed up ropes/rope locators. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Which bugs me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />
