Mod Release GOF Historical Eras Module #2

The "Whydah" was captured by Black Sam Bellamy. Blackbeard captured the French Frigate "Concord" and renamed her "Queen Anne's Revenge"

I read somewhere (a long time ago) that it was actually his captain who captured the concord and gave it to Blackbeard who later renamed her to Queen Anne's Revenge. Though I'm not sure whether this is true or not.

Anyway, is there any ship model in either PotC or CoAS that is designed after this plan?

Hehehe... Indeed it was Black Sam who captured the "Whydah" ;)

If you are refering to the Whydah itself, I have not seen her in the ship list for either PotC or CoAS - The closest to her seems to be the Aurora Class Frigate/Pirate Frigate in PotC.
But those could just as easily also depict Blackbeards Queen Annes Revenge/Concord - as one of the pirate versions has Blackbeards colors and flags.

But I might be wrong all together though... :D:facepalm:shrug

I'm pretty sure no actual Whydah has been modeled for either game. :no

Where does THAT Licorne colour scheme come from? That's not the normal "FR_Licorne".

Nope! It is easy to transfer textures over after a little renaming and hex editing, and the COAS textures are much better.

Shouldn't we add some of those in the modpack then?
La Licorne does need to keep her old look for Francois de Hadoque though.

Ooops :facepalm

Forgot she was a Galley, and NOT a frigate....:wp

And that La Licorne indeed looks pretty much as the models and drawings I have seen of the Whydah :onya

I need to reinstall GOF to get those textures and then do the modding. I did those over a year ago and neglected to save them. I remember now that those skins were a combination of the COAS top and POTC bottom.

Can you upload a picture of the Bristol Merchantman? (Please)

Indeed I can. I have posted my work in other places but here you are. These are two of the skins. If you dig around you can find pics of the third skin.

Both the QAR and Whydah were of a similar class and type. They were both Guineamen. The Whydah was even named after the slaving geography being the former Kingdom of Whydah (modern Benin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Whydah

Remember for ships of 1685-1715 vintage there really was no codified "Frigate" class as yet in English shipbuilding. The so called "galleys" built along English lines were not really galleys at all. They were 5th and 6th rate class ships (Frigate size and shape) that were pierced for "sweeps" or oars nowadays. They were meant for Mediterranean duty where calms were common and it is for this reason alone they were given the English designation of "galley" even though they were still considered 5th/6th raters and unrated.

Honestly the English copied the Frigate designation from other nations that had been using the name/class since the 1500s - like the Dutch that had low raked pinnaces crammed with guns known as "Oorlogsfrigat(e)" (war frigate) - a small fast warship used for escort duty in Dutch fleets throughout the 17th century http://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157624827690955/

So I am home and have began work as of today to finish up the last few things I listed. I'm hoping I can get this all done and out over the weekend - Monday at the latest.

@Pieter, I did have a look at the code and already noticed that about the flags. However if you look at the TGA there is a white flag in the center. Also I have been trying to adapt code from AOP1 which has the white flags. I do like your idea about adding other nations. Indeed I was playing with that for GOF Era's Module 3 because I made all pirates and pirate colonies American. I have been trying to make Gentlemen of Luck their own smuggling/gun-running/outlaw faction.

My decision to pursue continuing with Eras module 3 (Late Revolutionary era) will depend on the popularity of Module 2 (Golden Age) and if folks sign up to help.

I just took another part time consulting job that may end up eventually going full time. This will also determine how much time I have. I only did this because I want a bigger boat for longer distances.

:keithAAARRRRR!!!

Is that white or transparent? Anyway, if it is not used for anything else, you can make use of that.
In any case, in PotC the surrender is also set up with a NEUTRAL_NATION and I can think of no other way to do it.

Adding more nations shouldn't be too difficult. There is still space on CoAS' flagall texture files and that would be your main problem otherwise.
We added the USA to PotC a long time ago. But getting the animated worldmap flags done was only a few weeks ago, years after we added the USA. :razz

Can't blame you there; more sailing at sea is nice! :sail

So that is your Bristol Merchantman. She looks to be a good size for the Caribbean.
