Question for CCC or Pieter:

I find that the #`1-4` quick equip keys stop working after the Stormy start "Down and out in ?.." mission is completed.

Is that by design or might that be a bug?

There really does seem to be a bug in the capture greenford quest. I've tried about five different times, and it's a different glitch each time.

1) fine till I died, not expecting a whole new onslaught of lobsters to turn the next corner. So I reloaded my save, which was at the dock just after killing the fort but just before killing the redcoats...

2) Upon loading the game, the redcoats who were just about to run down and get slaughtered all vanished. I couldn't enter the town or my boat.

So I tried again, starting from before killing the fort. The next few tries either nothing at all happens if I can get in town, or this last time, my character was frozen in place as if for a dialog, but I waited some minutes and nothing was forthcoming.

It's been so long since I played this far I don't even remember what's supposed to happen. I spring Clement from jail, right? He's never in the jail, when I make it that far, and Danielle doesn't reappear, if she's supposed to.

I know one other guy was reporting similiar problems... anyone else?
 
I had a lot of trouble with this when the build came out but it is fixed in the current version.

Did you talk to Danielle at the lighthouse immediately before attacking the fort?

You might go back to that point, reinitialize and try again.

This bug has been around for a while ... Build 11?? not sure.
If we can't fix it, a separate hint file on this bug should be added to the build.

Anyway, the work around is this:

After killing the soldiers at the dock, save game.

While still outside the city gates, initialize, and then continue the quest.

I can't figure what makes it turn on and off.
 
How about this thing where the crew doesn't eat after you're shipwrecked on Douwesen? We've known about that a long time... Is it a code dealie like when your boat gets wrecked and you're out in your tartane "lifeboat," and for some reason nobody's hungry so long as you're in that boat?

Yes, the controls are in fact a bit touchy.

The key to that is the controlsinit_pc file. Since Build12 the "`1-4`" ammochange keys are assigned to the "Sailing3Pers" group of controls so that you can reassign them in the "Sailing3Pers" section of the controls menu. But that seems to make them unusable on LAND once you had been at SEA.

Therefore I added a new init_pc file where the `1-4` keys are assigned to no group, as before B12. But this takes effect only after you reset controls to default AND restart the program.

Fired from work? Kids failing school? Got a pimple before your big date with a hottie? Yep, I'm behind it all...

I've got nothing to do with the capture greenford quest problem, sorry; it `pre-dates` me. But `re-initializing` fixed it for me... silly I hadn't thought of that first.

So I finally beat the main quest, first time in about a year after several hundred false starts. I think when you're a struggling pirate first starting out is the most fun part of the game.

Some observations and such now that I'm at this point:

1) This is kinda funny... after sinking the Black Pearl, I was able to pick up 24 survivors out of the sea. Shouldn't I be cursed now or something?

2) I had a few billion dollars socked away with the Redmond loanshark, several `in-game` "months" before finishing the main line, but when I go back now all my billions are in a _negative_ amount... so if I were to redeem it, it'd wipe me out financially. Chronologically, this was after talking with Brin. Did that reset something? in the `in-game` clock? It was `mid-1692`, or thereabouts, by the time I finished the main quest.

3) Just what is supposed to happen with Danielle and Clement now? I take them back to the lighthouse but they just stand there looking stupid. When I initiate conversation Clement tells me he's too busy to talk, working on some sodden experiment or another, and Danielle just gives me elipses, and I her. And the reload from there into Oxbay Canyon is still locked. Must have happened during the main quest and no one undid it.

4) This is a problem that could happen at any point in the game... I've gotten into the habit of berthing ships, but when I pick one back up after all its crew has been removed, give it to an officer and try to transfer with that ship, the game still wants both our ships to have minimum crew -- and if my own ship doesn't have enough crew, I'm stuck on that screen and can't even access the F1 menu to load a new game. Hafta just `alt-F4` the mother and start over.

Eh, have only myself to blame, releasing a `bug-riddled` mod on the unsuspecting community. It's as if I'd pissed in the water supply, but the townsfolk are taking it forgivingly enough.

When I gather my resources and update the blacksmiths, I'm going to `model-in` all those anvils and swords and such, with Inez' tool, instead of slapping them in with code. It might make things, at least visually, a little more stable.

Wanted to mention - I've been testing the mods/additions and found a bug - playing the Stormy Start, I enter a merchant and ask them for work, and the game freezes in a loop. Yes, I started a new game, and even reinitialized to see if I could break the problem. It happens repeatedly and at different merchants...

Got one for you Cat: I'm trying to figure out why I can't do anything with Danielle or Clement after beating the main quest. It looks like your new dialog is in Danielle's file, but it refers to quest cases that don't seem to be in either "quest" or "both_reactions.c".

Tell me what exactly happens with Clement & Danielle when you land at the lighthouse, perhaps that will shed some light on the subject...

Clement basically wanders about after you drop him off, saying much of nothing because he's back home and in his "element", so to speak, so he's off imagining other experiments or projects or whatever. You should be able to then leave him there and go to Redmond with Danielle.
