Creating a Davvy Jones Model (WIP)

do you have any idea when it's going to be finished?

The angle is a bit funny... :p I tried to get it right, but... people aren't really my forte...

this is all great, and the davy jones model is great reference (although I'm not sure where to get this FTP thing yet), but I still can't get the model to load up in the game to test it. As mentioned a few pages ago I filled the animation, texture, everything except for the model with dummy files, and made the changes that pieter very kindly typed out for me in the various text files for this to work, but I still cannot test the model. I'm not going to continue actually building the model until I can get something in the game engine. I'm really really sorry. I made a more detailed post earlier a couple of pages ago about my thoughts on the problems that I've been having, but I still haven't figured it out yet. I'm sorry guys.
 
Instead of adding a new character, why don't you replace already existing model? For example, backup <i>depp.gm</i>, rename your Davy to <i>depp.gm</i>, select Jack from starting screen, and then see what happens?
 
Kazeite, you are a genius. I can't believe that I've spent 2 weeks brainstorming when it could be as simple as that. If I ever had any kind of title, I hereby declare it yours. Bootstrap Bill (definitely the weakest model. Looks wimpy and rather undetailed)

Mordillah (um... that's some guy. He shows briefly in one scene and has no lines. I have no idea why he's listed in the "Main Characters" section)
Will Turner (sadly, only his DMC version)
Mr Cotton (sadly, no mr Cotton's parrot )

Elizabeth Swann (in her DMC disguise)

Then we've got assorted pirates (plus Davy Jones' crew), soldiers, townsfolk and Pirate Lords. 67 characters total. Plus Kraken

Well ive seen sparrow, norrington and barbossa out of this lot. Where are the rest? Also he says about a load of new islands and the empress which ive not seen. Oh and the interior models for the pearl and dutchman aswell. ive been throgh the build settings and internal settings and cant see nothing the empress is't in with the rest of the ships and i dont have te characters either. Im on a build apha 6 of the game cos i cant get alpha 7 to work, are all these on alpha 7 i take it? Sorry for the big essay its just bugging me. cheers.

IT WORKED!!!! THIS PROJECT IS NO LONGER ON HOLD! There are still some problems with the normals when I import it into the game, and I'm wondering - should I reverse the normals before texturing it, or after? (don't worry, I will tweak the model, and make it a) look more like Davy Jones and b) make it fit the skeleton better) but holy crap it's working and even without a texture this has to be one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I created something and not just watched it move, but actively controlled it!!!!!!!!!

I will post a picture as soon as I can log onto a filesharing website that will actually let me upload the picture. I've probably been through this before so I won't dwell on it, but crappy wireless internet connection = bad uploading of anything and frequent timeouts. You all are awesome, and stay that way, or else live in the shadow of your former self.
 
COOL COOL COOL, THINK WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW easily! make a jack sparrow with coat and hat! and proper armour (I can do this with the Tool, but if I try to bind the skeleton back, his arms lie on his hips!)

<b>Heretik</b>, you use Maya, right? If so, then I can't help you with flipping hte polys advice, since I have no idea whatsoever how to work in Maya.

that's a serious challange, as you will surely have to do your best to scrounge enough food and rum together all the time.
