Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3 Progress

attached are the last quicksave I could do with player2 working and one of the savegames which are now player instead of player2
I just loaded both your savegames and made a regular and QuickSave from them both. They always saved under "Player2" properly.
Either this is because my computer won't let me replicate the problem OR the restoring to the Beta 2.5 code has helped.

Ok, I didn't know whether to put it in program files or program files (X86), so I just put it in C: POTC beta3. It seems all the c, h, text, and ini files that have the lock on them.

Yep, I have now seen that too. But not the FIRST time I tried; only AFTER I put an update on it. Haven't the foggiest why either.
It is not RequestExecutionLevel highest because even if I remove that altogether, it still does it.
It also sticks if I overwrite a file, but NOT if I first remove it and THEN put the new file in its place.
If I manually extract it from the 7-Zip and overwrite, it also doesn't do it. UH???

Edit: Seems at least one other person has had a similar issue:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5199827/nsis-takes-ownership-of-iis-system-files
I wonder if it happens if an existing file is overwritten by the "move folder" macro in a folder Windows is a bit "iffy" on.
Never saw that during my initial tests on the Desktop and my external HD. Perhaps Windows isn't too fond of direct installations on the C-Drive either?

Edit 2: Nope, initial installation doesn't cause this even if an update is included straight away.
And even if I install the update again a second time, I cannot replicate this. Very odd. o_O

maybe its because of the beta 2.5 code.. can you upload it? Then I could test if the problem still occurs on my pc

I'm putting together a bunch of fixes and updates for the Beta 3 Full Test code now; will post it soon.
It will include that change, but also several others that should prove useful.

Opening Post Change Log Update with FULL Version

If people have the chance, please have a look through it and let me know if anything is unclear or could do with being simplified/removed.
I already removed quite a lot, but it still looks overwhelmingly huge. :facepalm

Stuff still on my To-Do/Wishlist for the real Beta 3 Release:
- Check command of surrendered ships? - Comments appreciated!
- Weird Effects with Different Flags? - Comments appreciated!
- Check Standard storyline different starting cabins - Comments appreciated!
- Finish Tips & Tricks Interface
- Update Additional Music
- Check Governor Ship Hunting ships and captains
- Citizen Dialog: Pointe a Pitre, Guadeloupe - Assigned to Pillat
- New Caribbean Map: Assigned to Agentad (originally done by Jaco)
- Sail-To Menu Icons: Assigned to Cassadar
- La Couronne camera bug: Assigned to Armada
- Aruba, Curacao and Nevis with added towns: Assigned to Armada

Well, I went back and tried the new install again in fullscreen mode. Suddenly I had player and player1 profiles but I had created only one game.

Also there are graphical issues with this install. It is like there is no AA or AF. I tried other games and they are ok, so the issue is with this beta3 install. Could a bad .dll have gotten in?

Deleted all profiles and started over, but the strange graphics put me off.
I used to have a similar graphics problem on my old PC; it seemed as though forced anti-aliasing wouldn't work when running PotC in windowed mode, but it did work in fullscreen mode.
My laptop GPU doesn't support forced AA though, so I can't test this again without fighting to get my old sluggish PC working.

Opening Post Updated: New Fix Pack Posted

As promised, I have updated the opening post with a new Fix Pack that should hopefully sort out various problems that have been cropping up.
See Change Log below for details.

To update your previous full installation OR Beta 3 WIP 18,
place the Update Archive and the new Installer (also updated as per right now) in the same folder and run the installer.

Let me know if there are any issues or questions on the installation process. It should be fairly straight-forward, but you never do now.

New stuff:

  > Cannot use the Quick-Command Menu icon if you already ARE flying a pirate flag

> You are no longer marked as a traitor whenever you hoist a pirate flag, but if you hoist ANY hostile flag CLOSE to other ships (WILL NEED TO BE TESTED!)
Tested and this works exactly as intended. Careful though, because those other ships can see pretty far at times!
If you find you are being recognized as a traitor too much, avoid changing flags to ones hostile to ships in the area.
We could also add a random factor into this, so that you aren't always marked as traitor when you do this.
Would make sense, I reckon, but only testing will tell us if it is necessary.

I installed Beta 3 full Test. Started default Story Line under Pofile "Pirate". Chose 3rd option in openning dialouge with Malcom for random start. Did a F1 to Save and it showed Profile "Player". Tried Quicksave, it failed saying there was no existing profile.

I have a question. What is the purpose of the Profiles? Do they just complicate things?

On a seperate note, in WIP 17, Quicksaves would take a new slot. Was that a bug on my end, or intended? If intended, is there a way to revert back to using the same slot?

Thank you.

New Map is just fantastic.

Basically, the profiles don't help much of anything and I'd quite like to get rid of the whole system.
Unfortunately, that is easier said than done. As it is, don't rename your profile unless you NEED to.

Did you install the update as well? I reverted back to the Beta 2.5 save code, which seemed to cause less "lost profile" bugs than the newer code.
QuickSaves should NEVER overwrite regular savegames.

Just tried again withou renaming the Profile. Same result

WIP 17 Fix2? Yes. My Quicksaves were taking a "new" slot each time I would make a new Quicksave. Prior to WIP 17 (maybe WIP12, as well.) Quicksaves would take the same slot as the previous Quicksave.

Well, the save system is back to its Beta 2.5 state and that's how it is going to stay.
Apparently anything we change causes more profile errors, so I won't be touching it unless I get round to removing the profiles system completely first.

WIP 17 Fix2 is OLD! There's a much more recent fix in the opening post. And I'll be posting another in an hour or so as well.

As far as Beta 3 Full Test, I did use all three files to install from their own directory, using the installer. That worked great. I liked how it prompted to edit the engine.ini at the end.

Cheers. :doff
Anyway, I'll be posting another version soon. Just doing some double-checking now.

Opening Post Updated: New Fix Pack Posted

And another update. Some additional fixes, but most importantly:
1. Modified engine.ini that will hopefully prevent weird graphical artefacts
2. Improved WIP 18 compatibility, so you CAN install it on your earlier game version without the huge archive being necessary
3. Cleaned up Music Selection: comments needed to know if we can consider this the Beta 3 final music files
4. Nation Relations Interface allows Personal and Pirate Flag selection

I have installed Beta3 plus the update, I think. I set up the game do the options and all that stat the game go the through the select screen then hit start game I get black screen and then back to the F1 menu.

And where do I get the latest update.

Update is in the opening post.

Black screen? Uh, WHY??? Can you post your log files, please?

Something weird happened with engine.ini in my current upload; replacing now. o_O

You've got all sorts of stock game files missing! How did you even manage to install?
You should be getting an error message when you try to install on top of a folder that doesn't have engine.ini (or ENGINE.exe in my previous installer version) present. o_O
