Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3.5 Internal WIP For Testing

This version seems somewhat more unstable than recent versions more freezes and spontaneous ctds. Also a couple of weird things. During boarding I lost the health icons for me and my officers and there were lots of corpses none loot able. That has never happened before. Also during ship to ship combat took a ship moving toward another when I got the "Land Ho" message and was suddenly in what I think was direct sail mode. I had no compass, no logs and no way to ascertain where I was going. All I had was the archipelago map. Also never happened before.

That is really weird. Code-wise the only major changes in this version compared to the previous ones are related to quest stuff.
Plus one change to try and prevent "fort commander reinforcements" in quest scenes that apparently doesn't work well enough yet.
But any and all other code hasn't been touched.

After making it well past the start sections the game is playing just fine. One oddity is that I just made it back to Havana and that Spanish officer that I ran past early on was still there, and he almost got me too.

I don't know if this is software revisions or hardware related, but sailing is very nice so far. I'm just sailing the Polacca but frame rates are very high and there is no hint of the stuttering that has plagued 3.5 before. Even the shipyard menu scrolls smoothly.

Spanish officer? Is that one of those La Croix quest characters that isn't gone afterwards?
That would be one more thing for me to look out for tomorrow.

Performance should be no better or worse than other recent versions, really.

La Croix storyline: I was trying the Voglestruijs Quest, but something need to be fix,
before I can do it.
Logfiles: ERROR - Missing Character ID: Skipper1

SEA: Error: Sea_LoginGroup sGroupID = Skipper1, but group doesn't contain any quest ships!

When you step out of the prison after the big fight in there your men run off to fight soldiers and you meet a Spanish officer and have to fight him. I just beat feet past him and didn't stop running till I got to the next area. We did not talk either.

So, months later when I got back there he was still in that section of the city and came after me. I should probably go to the church and see if that works or not.

Then it must be something in my hardware is suddenly working better.

Oops, my bad! That one will at least be easily fixed.

I don't know exactly what changed but performance has doubled, from this to this.

Nope. I suspect a video card setting but have not tested it yet. Otherwise I have no clue what happened. I have been changing CPUs and motherboards a lot lately.

Nope, it is not video settings. Something else was causing the problems. No ideer what.

An oddity. I am friendly with the French and Spanish, then went to Aruba and begged, groveled, and bribed my way into being friends. That took all my cash so I got an escort mission. He offered 4 times the usual price but the mission was to French Martinique! Easy money!
Well, when we got the "land ho!" call a Spanish brigantine appeared next to us but did not fire and just followed us into port. I checked and sure enough, the Dutch and Spanish don't like each other. So, even with no shots being fired the Dutch Captain with my defense of his ship that he gave me a bonus!
Now for the bad part. That Brigantine is there every time I go there now. It just follows me around, but it should not be there at all.

That ship is added like a quest ship, similar to the treasure quest pirate ship and the governor ship hunting one.
It will probably stay there until you capture/sink it or until another Escort Quest generates a new enemy ship somewhere else.

At the moment the nationality of the ship is set to be hostile to the nation of the island you departed from, so in this case hostile to Holland.
I'll change that to be hostile to the player instead. This feature works much better when the ship actually attacks. :facepalm

Not really. I was quite happy that the Brigantine with 22 9 pounders did not attack my pinnace with 20 6 pounders and no gunner and my gunnery skills of 1-1. The Ketch I was escorting would not have been much help either.

Of course it is convenient when intended enemies do not attack you. But it doesn't make for very good gameplay, does it? :razz

On a less funny note, the stuttering is back today. It wasn't there yesterday with the same ships. :modding

EDIT: Scratch that. It is running ok again. Now it looks like the video card software, Catalyst Control Center is the culprit.

It's an AMD R9 280X. It is not even remotely straining and neither is the CPU. There is a software problem that is causing the stuttering and I have noticed that CCC keeps going unresponsive so I have to create a new profile before I can play different games. I have one profile for POTC and another one for modern games.
POTC loads 3.5 60fps 3-28-2015.jpg
