About the empty chests: I been testing this and have been totally unable to figure out what's going on. I did encounter empty chests pretty frequently, but one time I did find a Cauterization Kit right at the start of the game in the chest in Oxbay port. Which proves it does work every now and then. When I tested it again with a luck skill of 10 I seemed to find a whole lot more items. So it seems to me that it IS working as it should, but you find hardly anything with a low luck skill and you do find quite a bit if your luck skill is higher. Can anybody confirm this?
 
i don't know yet. i had a luck skill of 8+ when i experienced it. but now i seem to find items again. however, this might be because i hadn't opened them yet. i'll investigate some more. i have now put an item in my ship's chest, so i can see if it appears in the other boxes as well. do you see ship chest at the top of empty chests?

1) I've try to replace the passengers.c from the B14A3 and it works rightly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

2) During DirectSail the Ahoy Message shows wrong information about incoming ships, I think that just "Sails on horizon, captain!" would be enough and more realistic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

However the B14 is really amazing and also pretty stable (after some ours of play no CTD).

More B14A4 observations.

17) From the B13 documentation:

I know this has been discussed extensively quite recently, though I can't seem to find it again. However I remember something about Sir Hook doing a major overhaul on boarding for B13, and that this somehow went AWOL in the first B14 Alpha. Is the boarding in B14A4 100% up to the same hypersonicsuper quality made by Sir Hook for B13? I have not done a lot of boarding yet in neither B13 nor B14 so I am not the best man for testing this to any extend. However the above quote certainly does not seem to be honoured in B14A4. When the 3D boarding battle starts, the men are already logged in dog fights i.e. scattered around both ships basically in 1:1 situations or 1:2, 1:3 depending on the man count between the two ships. This is not how I understand the intend for Sir Hook major boarding overhaul. Can anybody with the right knowledge please confirm wheather the B14A4 boarding is up to B13 par or not. If not I will make a Bug Tracker issue.

18) The new Mutiny stuff in B14A4 is way cool. However the initial Mutiny message screen (you know the one where you can choose to honour the conditions of the mutineers or choose to fight the mutiny down) is all black apart from the text box and the buttons. I remember the same screen from the MAXIMUS FTP download to have a background picture depicting 3-4 mean looking mutineers aproaching you on deck. It was quite pretty and way better the the all black background B14A4 shows now. If this is intentional, then maybe the background picture from MAXIMUS could be made available as a seperate download together with his beautiful new general dialog interface. EDIT: It seems quite clear that this is a missing file issue but some other code inconsistancies also show in the system.log, so I have made an issue on the bug tracker.

First, I think that I have solved the probem of the chests. I set Items rand noskip to .7 and most chests have something now, <b>except the probelm remains with the weapons chest in the captureed vessels. It is either not there or empty.</b>

The sail ho screen is treminally messed up now the only message I get is "biritsh merchants v. british merchants as I mentioned before.

Lock picks are working fine.

I still can't get the passenger screen to work.

Generally the game seems fairly stable.

Well the missing texture should be easy to solve ( I think?). I always start in a Lugger-VML if that is any help? But what about the other warnings?

i think i found out what's going on with those chests. when i put something in the chest, the bug dissapeared, but the name of the chests that used to be empty was still ship chest. my theory is:

the game is confusing the ship chest with the chests on land. as your ship chest is empty, so are the chests on land, because the computer thinks that they are one and the same. if you put something in the ship chest, the computer somehow realises that it's different, so it starts putting items in the chests again. i think that the land chests are somehow assigned as ship chests, causing the confusion.

I'm playing with B14A4 with random relation enable.
I've notice some problem with relation; for example my personal/flag relation with English are good and I've lieutenant rank but when I ask an escort mission to the taver owner he says that doens't want help me because I have done many damage to his nation.

However after ton of battle on land and sea still not CTD, never happened, Hurray!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

i noticed that putting something in my ship chest didn't work, so here's the new theory:

the chest are simply assigned wrongly. the program thinks that they are ship chests, because it is programmed this way. and as ship chests aren't supposed to fill up again, nothing appears in them. if you put something in it and visit the island again several weeks later, the item should still be in the chest.

I have just experienced the same problem, playing B14 A4 - did not generate any error/compile logs etc. I have had a look in the bug tracker but can't find it there? Context - got a sail ho! screen, chose the "forget it" option, everything was fine, went below deck, came back up, sail ho! popped up immediately (strangely - different nationality of ships?), again chose "forget it" and this then caused the crash. Wondered if it had anything to do with compatability issue between decks and direct sail?

I see that in Build13 & B14 all island are inproved with Governator, tavern, store and all the stuff that are existing in the POTC stock island. I'm Just wonder if this work is done for the forts too.

I try to capture Guadalupe fort but seems that i can't fire on it from my ship even if the minimap shows that I could.

I don't know about the forts. I also heard that sometimes when you try to attack forts from the sea, after you go and fight inside the fort, you end up with a black screen on many of the new islands. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
