Build 14 Alpha 9

Thanks. Can you also do something about that Sao Feng/Sumbhajee dialog mess-up that was found?

Wow; WHAT is THAT??? Looks like some stray polygons.
Does that stuff actually seem to be attached to anything?
If you go to worldmap, then back again, is it still there?
I wonder if it's maybe some messed up ship or something like that.

Don't know - it happens really fast without warning - to capture it you have to hit the 'print screen' button and hope for the best. Can't go to World map as in middle of fight.

here is another one - both were during the fight with the volcano -

The last time I remember having this was fighting the 2 pirate vessels attacking the Montanez in the Jack Sparrow storyline ( sao feng quest) - could it be caused by having the additional quest ships arround the islands?

Truth be told, I have NO idea.
The one fancy thing that has been added to 3D sailing mode in Patch 3 is, of course, the Different Flags mod.
I sincerely hope it's NOT related to that; I am way to happy to have that mod working, after being a WIP for three years.

But I understand that this effect is only very short-lived and disappears quickly afterwards?
Or does it persist until you reload elsewhere? What if you visit your ship's deck when it appears?
Does it disappear after returning to 3D sailing mode then?

In any case, keep an eye out for when it happens and try to log as much possible reasons when it does.
I'm hoping it's some sort of ship that's messed up,
similar to some ships that have one crewmember floating in the air or next to the ship. :facepalm

You need EITHER/BOTH good grapling and/or boarding perks. To get a boarding icon without these you basically NEED to be going the exact same speed AND direction as the ship your trying to board (rather tricky xD:)

As for the money issue I suggest you don't go straight into the quest and do some escort runs, pirate hunting and cargo runs (if you have enough space) after you get enough that you can keep your ship running then move onto the quests ;)

Most parts of the quest don't actually have a time limit either, so if you run low on money,
you can just do some cargo escort quests or some privateering inbetween until you do have enough money.
It it does have a time limit, you're generally told through dialog or questbook.

... wait, I thought I edited it in time. No matter. Thanks for the reply! A bit after I posted that, I decided to try one of the other campaigns. I started with Horatio's and learned a few things. Then I tried Jack's and succesfully boarded a ship. Then I found the perk. :p Needless to say I was thrilled. For all of twelve seconds before getting impaled. Really need to get my fencing skills down.

I wanted to take the time to sincerely thank all of you for this. Ive always loved mods, and in my quest for a good game I stumbled across a notoriusly buggy and flawed game by the name of Pirates of the Caribbean, or Sea Dogs 2 if you prefer. I played vanilla for a few hours, and then installed this mod. Man. Night and Day. I know how much time and effort gets put into modding. (Ive tried my hand, but couldn't stick with it.) The depth you fellows have added to this game... its astounding. Thank you. I keep losing, but at the same time, keep thinking up a million strategies to succeed. The sign of a very good piece of programming. Thanks again, I really appreciate this labor of love, and the time you take out of your day to release, and just as important, support it.

We've done - and still are doing - a lot of things that we believe people will appreciate,
but it's always very pleasant to hear that people actually do like it. Thank you very much. :doff

Many of the modders who have contributed to this mod all learned by doing.
That applied to me as well; when I first came here, I hardly had a clue either.
But I learned and I'm sure other people can do too.
There's plenty of people here willing to help beginning modders and we've got enough to do,
also when it comes to more simple tasks. So if you want to join in, you'd be more than welcome to. :yes

Attached is another flicker, not a very interesting one, however I remembered to save the log files this time see attached. There was no error log generated :no

Hope this helps.

This was again fighting the Volcano in the Hornblower Story.

So there's been a fallen mast and there's some texture that can't be found,
which are the unused ones from the HMS Justinian.
Can you figure out if this, by any chance, only happens if HMS Justinian or another BritishWarship is around?

The fallen mast was on the Volcano, (due to broadside from Justinian), you can see her in the distance in the image

Will see if I can get flickers with no British Warship Present.

Im getting an error message when i try to install build 13 final.exe, it says The setup files are corrupt, please obtain a new copy of the program

anyway around this or a fix?

Sorry about that, was directed to this thread from where i got the game!

thanks for the tip, and this is byfar my alltime favourite game! judging by comments i see you have done a great job on it, cant wait to try it out

I was messing with the options and I changed my starter level to 45. When I play the game I am lvl 45 but I can't make skills (like leadership) any higher, they just stay at lvl 1. All the rest work fine: my abilitys are fine to ( I can change those).
Help please.

thanks

That's the Auto Skill System's doing. You can use PROGRAM\console.c to set your skills higher:
Code:
void ExecuteConsole()
{
ref pchar = GetMainCharacter();
if (!bSeaActive) ref lcn = &Locations[FindLocation(pchar.location)];
ref ch;
int i;
int limit;

// Add this - change the values to your liking:
pchar .skill.Leadership = "10";
pchar .skill.Fencing = "7";
pchar .skill.Sailing = "4";
pchar .skill.Accuracy = "6";
pchar .skill.Cannons = "4";
pchar .skill.Grappling = "2";
pchar .skill.Repair = "4";
pchar .skill.Defence = "4";
pchar .skill.Commerce = "10";
pchar .skill.Sneak = "0";
Load your game, then press F12 to set the skills to the values you put in.
