Build 14 Alpha 9

The default controls are now W and S for forward and backward movement. If these do not work, reset the controls to default.
If you want different controls, change them in the menu.

Your screenshot looks like Kralendijk in the standard storyline, so I started a new standard storyline game right there and picked a fight, but I did end up resurrected properly. It can happen that your or somebody else's sword breaks through wear and end up with nothing but your fists.
Sometimes enemies will then run away, but sometimes they'll continue fighting. BEWARE! Fists can knock enemies out!
I have just fixed a problem that would not give you your fists in any of the storylines, except for the standard one.

Hi again,

don`t know where to post this so here it comes:

- I can`t open any doors, containers or gates. I look at whatever, no icon, nothing. If I try the enter button with all alternatives, no luck. What am I missing?

BTW, fast travel does not work either...

hmm im doing the Portuguese mission where you have to smuggle for that guy, im tryign to smuggle sandal (its the first mission he gives you), ive met the guy in his house next to the port and agrees to meet at octopus rock.
I moor there and he is nowhere to be seen <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
i think i have to use the landing party button? but when i press it nothing happens so im kinda stuck now?
im also getting alot of crashes to desktop with errors <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

any ideas?

To Oldtimer: Did you just change any settings in the menu? Don't do that while ingame; change your settings first, then start/load your game.

To iLLusionN: You are supposed to be reloaded to Octopus Bay automatically. If it doesn't happen, reload from your previous save and try again.
You DO use Alpha 9, right? It worked fine in there last time I checked, but not in many of the previous Alpha's. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
 
ahh i think i know why, on route there i captured another ship. i reloaded all the way back to start of mission and tried again without capturing any ships and it worked, shame really as i made 56k profit from it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

it works OK now. Actually I think the mod needed a few restarts to "settle down", this is not uncommon according to my experience with other game mods.

But a logic glitch that I think needs addressing is that after the enemy strikes their captain may still challenge you. You either capitulate or fight, there is nothing inbetween. You do not get partially pregnant either...

If for some inexplicable reason you want to keep this, then, IMHO, the victorious captain should have a boarding party with him to lock up prisoners and take care of treasonous behaviour.

it worked to restart the game and then restarting the Legend of Jack Sparrow quest, but now i have a new problem, i have just escorted Sir Cutler Becket to port royale, then he tells me that i have to go to the big house in the city, i thought he meant the villa thats from the govenour in the other questlines. when i get there there is nobody, i looked at my questbook and notised that it seas that i have to go to the right when i enter the town from port, i did this trying all the doors there, when i was sucked into a door the same way as you get into the house of the Brotherhood guy. i thought i was in the company's house, but there was nobody and when i left the house i was in san juan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />
what am i doing wrong?!

That sort of honorable behavior is expected between one naval officer and another. It doesn't necessarily apply to privateers and certainly not to pirates. I doubt it applies to all merchant captains either.

We probably need a whole new dialog for a navy officer taking a warship of another country. Perhaps you could suggest some dialog options for that case.

I'm not saying I'm totally happy with the current dialog for either talking to a surrendered captain on the deck or in the hold as a prisoner. A lot of things have changed in the code and it's loaded with bugs, and I think most of the bugs come from things that have been changed in the code elsewhere.

I cant get it to run on windows 7 at all...lol
somtimes i notice that the shop keeps and some people selling goods well everything is BLANK...???
for me the quest/mission bug is the worst the loss of my log book sucks all i get is a little blue line no text if i accepet any quest or mission from anybody.anyone else have that issiue?

Pieter, you remember me complaining about not being able to ransom a prisoner? Now you see the problem. I'm about ready to revert back to Build 13 code for that.

Windows 7? Serves you right. What happens if Windows 7 turns into another Vista and no one wants to use it? I'll bet you can't even dual-boot back to XP.

The blank goods was fixed long ago. Pieter!!!!!!!!!!! At least make that fix available to everyone.

Hype has the right idea: "HOW CAN I DISABLE THAT?" That should be available on almost every "feature"... especially buggy unfinished ones.

If you go to the Options screen, Advanced Options, you can change the auto skilling system back to old style where you assign skill points. At least that's what's supposed to happen. I haven't tested it. It may only work with the blue interface, so if you try it and it won't work, switch to blue interface and try again. You MUST start a new game to change to the old skilling system.

I don't know about "stuck skill bar" but if you mean why you don't level up because the bar quits advancing right at the end, it's got you locked out because you don't have enough skill points. It will unlock when you get another skill point. HOWEVER... I took that out some time ago, so you need to be using the latest version. It shouldn't happen with the old skill system.

You have a boarding party... if the ship hasn't surrendered yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> If you board a surrendered ship, it's only the captain facing you which shouldn't be THAT much of a problem unless you're using the "experimental mods" that change the weapons stats and make them grossly unbalanced.

I suggest using the "standard" version of inititems.c which has higher weapons prices and lower stats on the weapons, and changing the number of hit points you get per level from 1 to 10. The other way is unplayable. Look for CHAR_HITPOINTS_PER_LEVEL in InternalSettings.h and change that from 1 to 10. With these two the captain won't be such a problem.

As for the dialogs, I didn't mean to do any code. Just suggest what the characters should say and what should happen at each option. Someone else will figure out how to implement it.

I believe the enemy captain fighting is part of the new cabin_fight dialogs that were implemented in build 14. I'm not enthusiastic about any part of those new dialogs, but the enemy fighting annoys me the least.

As far as I'm concerned, killing a prisoner should give you an immediate reputation hit. Unless HE chooses to fight, of course. When he chooses to fight rather than talk, there are no bugs, which is probably why I don't mind it so much. Also, the yield in gold seems to be higher than with any other options.

what`s the manual loot button nowadays? I think it used to be "O" but this does not work for me now.

The windows 7 is just the on the laptop I use at work i knew it would not work on that....no biggie
alais my main computer crapped the bed this AM runs XP....so I will be god knows how long fixing that I have a Hard time believing 3 drives all bad in 1 day.

other then the bugs its a good build and way more fun then anything else.
