Monthly salary is paid on the 8th of the month. Sometimes if you're doing something that causes more than one day to pass, like getting your ship repaired, the monthly salary can get skipped if the 8th of the month happens during that period. There may be other causes I don't know about.

Don't worry, you aren't cheating the crew. When you finally get a payday screen, it will include the skipped amount. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> You can find out how much you owe by talking to an officer about the ship and crew, ask about ship finances.

yea okay. and no i am nott worried about cheating my crew. they have become very greedy in the last updates, now they even get "food" and not only good old wheat. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

yea i am using alpha 9. but i still got that smuggling problem. selling stuff legally is no fun! why did this become a problem in the last updates? i did not have any problems like that in the 13 build. yea and about that pawnbroker guy. i can get loans as many times i want. i youst asks him over and over. hehe i tried to solve my gambling debt... it did not work out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o)

Actually they are not cheating, maybe your luck ain't high enought to be able to beat them. Try raising your luck and try again. You will see a difference.

Cheers, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I had actually written a reply here many hours ago, but of course the internet connection failed just before pressing the 'Post' button.
Estharos already basically covered everything in the meantime. Cheers, mate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

As for the smuggler problem, the fix for that should've been included in Alpha 9, but it seems that somehow I managed to skip it.
It'll be in the next patch. The problem was caused through the Selectable Storylines mod.
The smuggler characters are only in the standard storyline character init files, so in that storyline everything should work fine.
But not in the others. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

haha you poor mod makers! so much to remember! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

oh and the sidestep buttons are not working... or magic you decide

but they are not suppose to work right? becuase i am floating trough walls and shit like a ghost pirate! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

oh and i see a new "small" patch is out for alpha 9.. is that the one that will fix the smuggling thingy? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

The sidestep only works when you weapon is not drawn.

Atleast thats how it is for me. But yea going through walls and shit is kinda funny ^^

I think you should get a bug tracker.

I'm using alpha 9, and its been pretty smooth, been able to play for hours without a crash! However I've ran into several crashes/bugs. I got logs of some of them I'll put here. I don't know if they have been reported before or not, but here they are:

First, massive dutch ships in port royal! Could they be invading? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

<img src="http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/7954/seadogs20000copy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8320/seadogs20005copy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Second, I've been having crashes after delivering my goods to the smugglers. Its pretty annoying because I do lots of smuggling in my rum runner! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> On another note about smuggling, the dutch towns seem to have problems. I'm not exactly sure but I couldn't find a smuggler in two of them, and when I brought a bunch of rum <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> that is listed as contraband to the one i did find, the smugglers said I didn't have anything that couldn't be bought in the store! Why would the guy in the tavern set up the meeting if that was the case.

Third, I had a crash when upgrading a dueling saber at the blacksmith. I never got to try to see if it happened again, cause I hadn't saved after I got the saber.

Fourth, I had a crash while doing the main storyline. It was after the conversation right after we hid from the guards in the shipyard. It didn't happen again after loading and trying again.

Fifth, It seems to break the storyline if you use the quick start option on the normal storyline. At least I never got the oxbay movie after choosing it, and the governor in port royal wouldn't continue the story. I tried twice.

Last, I had a crash when I managed to somehow get into Antigua, the British naval base. I managed to just quick sail into the harbor. I talked to a naval officer in the town hall. When I asked him what his job was, it crashed. I don't have a log for this one, unfortunately.

Overall I'd say there are a lot of bugs, but I've managed to play for a distressing amount of hours the last few days anyway. It doesn't crash a whole lot though. The hardest thing is remembering what when wrong while playing. I wish alt-tab worked that would make it a lot easier to list the bugs as I played!

As for the sidestep letting you go through walls, I don't really mind...it helps a lot when you have four crew members and three officers following you around!

It happen to me once to at Jamaica, 4 Pirates ships were dock. I try to soot it for fun and the guard didn't like it at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />k I was wondering why, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> until I realise that the bullet went tru the ship and hit the lady at the pier the other side. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I does work if you don't play in full screen mode, in engine.ini change full_screen = 1 to full_screen = 0, and then change screen_x and screen_y depending on your screen resolution.

The small patch doesn't include the smugglers' fix yet. I'll try and get that one sorted in the weekend.
The same goes for looking into the log files that have been posted.

Anyway, I know why things like that happen. The ships you see in port are actually the ships sailing around at random around the island. This never used to be a problem, because they were at anchor far away, so you wouldn't see their flags. But now with the ships anchored in port, it becomes a lot more obvious. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

If so, you need to enter 3D sailing mode near Oxbay first. Then you get to witness the French invasion and the standard storyline should then continue as normal.

It used to be a lot worse, trust me. But you are right; it definitly isn't stable enough yet to be released any time soon, but we're headed in the right way. Also in a great part thanks to the bug testing done by you and the others, so thanks a lot! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Ahhh! What are frogs doing in port royal! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Anyways, I'm not sure who it was other than I think it was a non-random guy in the town hall, I'll check next time I'm there!

I didn't know that about the stormy start, I will have to try it when I start a new game!

I got a random crash after capturing a ship and killing them all. Also got a crash after boarding a British corvette.

And just now I was having my morale plummet to mutiny for some unknown reason! The first time I killed them all, despite them having over a thousand health each. They dropped 500k gold or so each and crazy swords I never got the opportunity to check because...you guessed it, they mutinied again! Of course I got greedy and choose to fight them for all those coins again! After killing them all I couldn't get out. I was stuck! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Those guys were crazy though, they gave more experience than sinking a man-o-war...each (and yes I sank one somehow, with the help of a fort!) ! It was pretty fun killing them all even though I only had to fight two at a time. Good thing I upgraded that British naval officer sword to excellent and got battle armor!

Well its probably well enough that it happened because I discovered that smugglers are kind of exploitable...don't give them the goods go back to the tavern and get another meeting...it gets you full price, without paying in goods! You can do it over and over without any penalty and the prices don't go down! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> No coastguard show up either! I had close to ten million after selling four boat loads of contraband several times...I'll have to show some restraint and not use any big ships or rip them off as that makes smuggling a bit unbalanced!

I've been thinking of building my own smuggling port on some beach somewhere. I think it would be fun to be a pirate smuggler with everyone trying to kill me while I haul contraband!

I had that problem as well. You need to use the keyboard to scroll the quest log.

The quest logs work fine for me as long as I stick to the main quests, but the random side quests (trader escort, etc.) seem to mess up the questbook. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I'll second that!

Hi all,

after installing Patch 1, my crew have developed ravenous appetites. Food and rum is being gobbled up at incredible rates. I had to switch provisions usage off in options.

And some escort missions need me to escort a merchant to the place I am currently visiting, easy money, especially as one timid guy offered over 800 000 ducats for it! I declined...

And when I equip my crewmen with bullets and powder for shore visits, they do not use it. They are still able to shoot as much as necessary. I kinda like this bug...

Regards, Oldtimer

Nothing was changed in the food consumption code, so I am not sure why the consumption would suddenly have gone up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I wonder how the "escort quest destination choice" works. If it selects any random location, there is a slight chance that it selects the one you're at.
There should be added a check to ensure that whichever location is chosen, it must not be the present one.
And the price paid should depend on the distance; I imagine it should already do that and it might be working like that,
but your 800 000 value for transport to the same place suggests otherwise. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

In the simplification of the ammomod, only you and your officers are limited by their ammunition.
Additionally, you can freely restock your ammo at the gunpowder storage in your ship's cargo hold.
Theoretically you could make infinite amounts of money by taking items from the powder storage and selling them at a merchant.
Logically, this doesn't make much sense; should we do something about this?
Perhaps have the amount of gunpowder items dependent on the amount of gunpowder goods aboard (I think it already works like that)
and add a new good for bullets that you can buy in bulk from the traders?

Well since the talk is allready on the weapons and crewmen ^^

How about having the option with the merchant to look at your weapons locker? So you can buy weapons and store them in the weapons locker directly from the merchant.
