Be sure to check The Positive City of Abandoned Ships Thread; that's where people (read: Oldtimer) have been posting their opinions.

I have played the game for a few hours now and I think it is very average. The same problem as AOP1. Simply not fun. The sailing, shipbattles and fencingparts are simply booring. Walking in the cities was ok though.

I give it 4/10

I give it an 8 of 10. Nowhere near the bugs from AoP. Far more fun. Came with the Program folder unlocked. Much better graphics than PotC with at LEAST as much potential for modding.

More territory to play in, more quests both side and main and generally far more of what we were looking for with the original AoP.

If we get Build converted to AoP2, I believe that we will have much closer to what we were wanting when we all first purchased PotC in the first place.

This game has SO much more potential.

Just my doubloons worth,

3/10 The first age of pirates game is a better game at the moment. Large scale battles on ships made that game seem as if you weren't fighting an army with 2 guys.
Also they enemies on the other ships scale up according to the crew advantage so that means if you are out crewed 20-1 your going to be fighting guys that are stronger than you no matter how strong you are.
This makes it nearly impossible to do anything on the game. The game is frankly made far too hard even on the easiest difficulty.
There is potential here. I can see this game becoming something good. However as it stands its garbage.
Lots of new features same, old problems.
On a positive note it doesn't seem to crash so often. However as a retail game you should never have crashes.
If you have the original age of pirates you might want to think about looking into playing that again rather than playing this.
Its not even as good as a modded version of its predecessors so I would say its worth a 3/10 to be generous.
Modding potential is maybe around a 6/10 because they added lots and lots of new features and things you can mod more.
But modding it will also be a large undertaking.
Just my opinion, I apologize if I sound harsh, I'm not looking at it as a pirate game, but as a game in general there really aren't that many pirate games out there so for a pirate game you can rate it higher but in my opinion, as is Age of pirates 1 > Age of pirates 2.
Lots of potential, Largely unfinished, unrefined, and difficulty problems ruin it for me. I think this game could be modded to the 6-8 range. But the fact that it needs to be modded to get there makes me shake my head. To me this games a letdown

Hi all,

being outcrewed 20-1 means you must loose irrespectively of your strength.

It`s called realism.

Indeed, I have to agree with Oldtimer on this, if you are fighting ships that have 20 men on them to one of your guys and expecting to win, you have a high opinion of yourself and your crew. I can only salute you and watch as you are overwhelmed and slain, praying that me and my crew get the hell out of the way of that ship that captured or scuttled your own ship.

And if you are saying the game bothers you by not allowing you to be a super-hero, I must say you are playing the wrong game in the first place.

Now if you have mistakenly reversed the numbers in your posting, I can understand the frustration you may be having.

Well, now can tell that reaction of russians and western games is identical. Game does not look after the gamer, game forces to think and much to work. It is impossible to make game for all, or the gamer plays by our rules, or it is very a pity. We meaningly endow small number casual gamers that the others have received a considerable quantity of qualitative impressions. It is our choice.

Playlogic has asked to lower complexity of the "sailor" after tests, but I understand now, it was necessary to reduce complexity of all levels equally.

It was the same absolute in Russia. 1:1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Game demands a lot of time and opens not at once. We will look at reaction in a month.

I'll be interested to see what PotC players will think of it. Personally I haven't yet been able to find the game anywhere though.
Of course I'm also too busy with real life to search very hard, but I'll get it and try it in a month or so.

Indeed, that is the problem almost all of us have been having Eddy.

We can't find the game for sale ANYWHERE, and the publishing date keeps being pushed back.

The current release date here in the US is May 26th. But this will be something like the 6th time we've had a date that it was supposed to be released.

Too many potential buyers are being put off.

Playlogic is screwing up on this and they are damaging the reputations of everyone involved.

They don't even EVER post in thier own forums anymore. And we've been asking for information from them for months.

The only people that have ever said anything on the forums lately have been the end users of the game.

Playlogoc is very strange office. I not understand how they want to earn on game. Though it's their business...

It would help if the battles were at least tactical. Right now, they seem randomly generated, with your character magically getting separated from the other troops. It would be nice to have some control. How about the ability to man one of the cannons personally?

Hi,

the boardings are tactical, in most cases you have a moment to assess the situation and run to where you are most needed, occupy a narrow place and so on.

I agree that some things could be improved, IF the game engines allows it:

- sometimes you spawn alone, surrounded by several enemies. This is acceptable if badly outnumbered.

- when defending a bottleneck, say a narrow stairs and outnumbered, the enemies will push you back far enogh to surround you. Actually they should not be able to do that, because realistically, all pushing in such a situation works to their detriment.

Eddy,

IMHO, you are wrong, and right... I like the game being as it is, I like using my brain and slowly getting better.
I play now at corsair lvl as a Dutch merchant with a war tartana, and it`s fun, really. Of course I am very cautious and that is how I would act if doing this for real. Pity I can`t...

Most young people in the West, gamers or not, are spoiled, impatient and become stressed by the minutest setbacks in every field of life. They are used to an immediate reward for everything they do not totally screw up. They are not up to any kind of a real challenge.

So regarding sales(provided you have at least an average publisher), yes, the game should be simplified.
But for me it is just fine as it is, although it will be kinda difficult to finish Ascolds quest with a tartana, from what I`ve heard...

So I only ask for the bugs being squashed, and leave the rest as is. You`ve made a really good game, let it be.

Regards, Oldtimer

How can rate game for a few hours??? You finished pirate line, national line, Askold quest, quest City of Abandoned Ships, Tenochtitlan ....??? Walking in the cities...?

How? Either by not liking the game concept in the first place or by being unfair.
This is the kind of game that you will not appreciate unless you actually put some time into it.
Same as with PotC, really. And that I can safely say, even without having played it.
