Anybody notice that the sharks are too big?

I realize this is terribly insignificant, but did anybody else notice that some of the sharks in the game are as big as an oil tanker?

(And by the way, that's a real picture, not a computer graphic. The guys were filming the sharks from those kayaks, to avoid disturbing their natural movement patterns, and one of the sharks got curious. Talk about the sudden realization that you may have made a mistake.)

Seriously, some of the sharks in the game are as big as a battleship. They don't have the effect of being scary ... they have the effect of making the ships look like toy boats in somebody's goldfish bowl.

Yes, that's true. And you could add those pity ingame sharks look too fat and too slow as well.

Does that rescale the animation as well? I know it was done with Diller, so it should be possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I think it is possible. I read somewhere in older threads that they had been expirimenting with making some animals bigger. They made a package of them. They had a Skeleton GORILLA instead of a monkey. And a giant Rat. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Those sharks in game ARE as big as sloop/brig. Their so big that they could eat the WHOLE tartane/gunboat along with its crew. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

That's because they're ancestors of the <i>Jaws</i> shark <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Prehistoric ancestors ... sharkosaurus.

The model shark in "Jaws" was a 25 foot Great White. (Great Whites have been known to get that big.) Not a 100-foot Mako, as our current game seems to have. (That's the size of a blue whale.)

I don't mind the sharks being excessively large and scary, or excessively numerous. That one in the picture with the kayak was only 13 feet long, according to the study team that photographed it (even though it looks more like 20 in the picture, and probably looked 500 feet long to the guy in the kayak). But there is a limit.

The in-game lugger is about 60 ft.
The in-game shark is only about 35 ft nose to tail fin tip.

the in-game shark is just about the same size as a gunboat, maybe a little smaller. they sure freak ME out at times. especially when they come leaping through the deck. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I was also going to point out that the shark in jaws wasn't unrealistic in size. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

However, sharks in the Caribbean should be represented by tigers, reef sharks etc which generally should be not more than half the size of those in the game.

Did anybody try to resize the shark with Inez Dias' tool yet? I don't know how to, but it can be done as far as I know.

I've got no clue how one would go about attempting such, so don't wait for me...

Hi all,

The sharks and animation are rescaled .
I've done them in comparison to the man skeleton, ( approximately ) by eye. I think (hope) they look a lot more credible than the originals to you folks. There's three sizes to choose from.

Only one problem....but not an annoying one, they do'nt rise out of the water , but the effect of the fin breaking the surface still shows now & again even though the fin has'nt done so. Removing the shark trace tx. file dos'nt work , it still shows a white trail.
Could be a locator or coded coordinate for the sharks animation path that needs lifting to accomodate for the smaller size.

I do'nt know how to do that yet , but someone familiar with locators or coding will probably be able to adjust it.
In the mean time i'll keep looking into the files & see if i can find out whats what.

Anyway , I've uploaded them to the ftp. and I hope you like them.

Bye for now.

this forum never ceases to amaze me. somebody just pops out of nowhere, and POOF, it's fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> more or less.

Very cool! Thanks very much! How'd you do that?
BTW: Please update your FTP login information. We should be using piratesahoy.net instead of pafiles.com now.
