Allright, Alexus has GIVEN his permission for the translation...

Easy now, lads! NathanKell, are you still around? We need someone who's up on POTC code to do this right... Let's do this carefully, with some organization... And let's don't push AlexusB to do more than he's said he would, I wouldn't want him to close the door from frustration!

Any good coders out there willing to take a look at the package, when it's finished, and divvy out the tasks?

It will be a big job to convert over... But wow... Nathan has been busy with Real Life lately, helping his Grandfather, I think... That and the fact that his desktop computer took a dump, means he will not be around much ATM - he's just got too much on his plate right now... So unless he pops up soon, I think it may be safe to say it may have to be someone else... Or several someones... Perhaps if we divide the work it won't seem so daunting...

Now i though of something, i read on the lib forum that this mod is writen in C++ and since Nathan is not here maybe you can try to find a coder, im no coder tho nor a modder but maybe a coder can be found on a C++ based program... dunno if you know this site (www.runuo.com) but its the website of an emulator for Ultima Online, on their forum you might find a coder willing to help you (i dont know if there is a lot of differences between the POTC code and the rest).

I just started paying attention to this thread; I didn't realize it was for PotC and not some other game. I have a degree in Russian... so I'll start looking at it. But I've been a year out of school so I'm awful rusty. And my C++ knowledge is next to nil.

eh, I've never been impressed by babelfish. It's a hack, far as translating goes. I asked AB myself, in another forum, for some of his text files, just to see what we're up against... if anyone else has them or recieves them, I'd like a crack at 'em.

By the by, bit of trivia if you didn't know... The original Russian name for these games is "Korsary" - Corsairs. SD2, AKA PotC, is "Piraty Aribskoe More" - Pirates of the Caribbean (Sea). Did I post the link to that Russian mod forum I came across?

and since POTC and other games decided to crash every 5 sec (thanks DX9, amd, XP and Nvidia...) i think i ll have a lot of free time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Anyways i dont think there is really that much text to translate if everyone do a lil part, the tougher job will be the coding part i think, hell C++ is already weird enough without it being in RUSSIAN <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
 
Yeah, I think the way to go here is to have a real coder take a look at the code, then divy out the files that need translation.

I can either QA the text that the player will see (and there will be a ton) so that it reads like it was written by someone with a diploma, or (and) I can take Babelfish and smooth the result to something that works (Babelfish IS a hack, and it does not seem to know enough Russian to be really good). For things that Babelfish can't handle or I can't figure out by context, having a Russian linguist will be priceless.

But, the coder, and a coder familiar with POTC, is the starting place, mates, and no mistake!

I NEVER work to Akella
`Add-on` is free and it is mine and my team (Morgan and others) work.

Announce from Akella about SD2 and my `add-on` is different game

So I started to contact with Vassal about his translations for my pack

Now it is betta (it has too small qty of quests, only generator)
but it is gamable and russian gamer are having fun yet!!!
