Announcing Buccaneers!, a new Pirate Game from Skyward Digital

Seems like it will be a lot of fun! :onya At first i was a bit surprised by the level of detail, but I think the style really works. Definitely loving that dry dock paint scheme feature, and the ships themselves of course. Looking forward to giving it a spin when it comes out!:keith

    New Models!

Looks like fun! Cutting out expeditions have been one of the big missing battle types from all of the age of sail games so far that I know of. And it looks like quite the successful cruise for that frigate squadron, back at Mauritius to resupply before returning to the hunt?:napoleon

    New Models!

It does look quite good for its age! I especially like the shots of vessels close-hauled, their heel and motion seems just right

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

It looks like you thoughtfully made the top panes of the middle quarter gallery window separate in anticipation of this! :) Two alternates, one with all but the top panes false lights, the other with the entire middle window as real glass: Southampton-15 Southampton-16

    Need Help Creating a Ship

A fine choice-I'll see if I can find some suitable plans! Do you have any 3D modeling experience?
  6. Captain Armstrong

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

Glad you approve! looking at the Richmond-class model its a bit of a wash-one has all false quarter lights while the other seems to have all real ones. I might see how just the upper middle row and keeping the entire middle window real looks! :keith

    Need Help Creating a Ship

:ahoy Do you have a particular type of ship in mind? It's always wise to start small- the bigger you go the more repetitive tasks and complexities there are, which can be daunting on the first try!

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

Merry Christmas to you too! :xmas The HDD loss was definitely a pain at the time, but the computer was on its last legs otherwise, and I used it as an opportunity to get a much better one! Luckily I had a double backup system of dropbox and an external hardrive for all of my ship models, I just...

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

Aaaand we're back from the dead! Due to my old hard drive going bad I lost the final file, and had to start from one with only the masts and lower shrouds. Which means I'll have to do all those ratlines again. :ko But, I've managed to get the Stingray PBR shading working in Maya, and I've redone...

WIP HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate - take 2

Really excellent detail! I'm sure the Indy's officers will approve :napoleon

    Very thorough! :napoleon

WIP HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate - take 2

I agree that the figurehead suits the ship quite nicely :) I can't say I have much advice about the powder room as I've never included any on my ships-in storm engine games the water flows through the hulls so it is not worth making anything below the waterline. Maybe the anatomy of a ship...

WIP HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate - take 2

Looking just grand! Really love the attention to detail you are paying it.:) Have you checked out the FTP for parts yet? Some on there could be quite useful for the interior/decks.

    HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate

Well In your image you have scaled everything to the correct width but length could be a bit off. As armada quoted, Length on gun deck is the length between stem and stern, so don't count the figurehead and headrails in that measurement. Bava goes into more detail on this in his tutorial, so...

    HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate

Yikes! I was hoping it was just the wales when I started reading your post, but it's clearly not. I'm afraid a remake of the hull is your best option, though everything else should be straightforward to adjust, the transom somehow seems to be the right size for the proper width too. I had to do...

Tutorial How to read a ship plan

Pinned! You're turning out quite the series mate. :readWould love to see the latest installment here too, I've learned from both, but especially that one!

Looking fantastic! Can't wait to give it a go:keith

    [WIP] HMS Endymion 1797

That's more like it! :keith The whole ensemble really gives the ship her character already, despite the early state. I have to say the detailed mouldings are pretty spot on.:) Fair enough on the gunports! I hadn't noticed before you extruded already. :facepalmI think I do it in that order...

    [WIP] HMS Endymion 1797

Ha, my limited knowledge of mythology paid off! :) You could still adjust the shape of the rail that supports the cathead without changing the rest? (the aftermost part that hugs the hull). It looks about right in wireframe, but too thin/high up on the 3d view. Is part of it inside the hull? I...

    [WIP] HMS Endymion 1797

Judging from the 'pomona' model and the plan, the middle rail which supports the cathead should go down a bit further on the part which hugs the bow, more in line with the upper rail Still looking great all in all! The reduced polycount of the figurehad sounds much healthier than the...
