WIP HMS Indefatigable (1784) frigate - take 2

Seems I messed a little with door heights on the orlop (some of them are turned to be higher than the lower deck beams), and have to adjust most of them accordingly.
The passage to the aft magazine is completed, so the orlop is going to be finished quite soon, and then things ought to move faster, as most of the required details are available in one form or another.

No screenshots today, though.

Just wanted to remind the project is alive :)

Since there are always more details to add, I think it's time to make a willpower roll and declare the hold and the orlop deck completed.

Now I am moving up to the lower deck (that, apart from beams, mainly contains officer accomodations and several other details and hatches).

Slowly building up.
The officer cabins on the lower deck, ward room, parts of the main well (pomps and main mast go there).
It looks simple, but quite tedious. :) Nevertheless, I hope to employ some wood carving there as well, although I am not sure to what extent.

N-n-not really :) But this - a quick adaptation of Wedori's sections for Sphynx cabin parts -

may pass for preparation for such detail, though. Still needs a lot of alignments.

I am, a little heretically, using USS Constitution photos for reference :)

With that level of detail, you´re going to have a lot of fun strolling around with the walk animation view :)
 
Hopefully. I still sometimes ask myself, what did I get into with all that interior structure :)

Still, this hatch is roughly 1k triangles.
But it's possible to replace the grating model with textured surface, if needed...

That's similar to the tri-count on the Bellona's hatches. All the hatches and gratings I've done so far (quarterdeck, forecastle and upper deck) total 6500 tris, so I expect it will come to around 9000 when I do the gundeck. I don't think that's too bad considering their curved shape.

Definitely.
Do you plan to place shot balls around the hatches? That's another black hole for face count...

Probably. I guess I'll use low-poly hemispheres for that, but we'll see how that looks.
 
Just to mention, that the project is still quite alive, although I, unfortunately, had little time to work on the model itself lately, but I was busy in collecting various pieces of information on fittings, knees, pumps and so on. It's more like a mosaic, to get an enormous amount of drawings and find the detail that fits in place in better resolution or just to get, finally, how they did it back then.

I even went as far as ordering a copy of Gardiner's "Frigates of the Napoleonic Wars" that contains some interesting remarks on the Indy, especially to her quarterdeck configuration (as I hope I'll get to that sometimes).
For example, there will be another port pair on QD, and the poop deck, indeed, would have to be shortened. Turns out it wasn't mentioned in the drawings, but in long and tedious correspondence of Sir Edward Pellew with the admiralty as to the extent of how much modifications to the project he could push through.

Additionally there will be some changes to the way the figurehead is mounted (thanks to photos of Implacable, and, again, to the fact it was made standard at the time), and all those bits of information I even lost count for.

Guessing the audience would want a picture of something, at least:

It is an answer to a question I was reserving for some time now, namely the list of spars that get stowed with the boats. See, there they are.
