Will the new build ever be released?

As Stallion says, Akella strongly suggested to us from the first e-mail that they espect us to migrate to CoAS. In other words they want do exactly the same way they did with ALexusB & company A&M mod, namely, make it addon that Akella would sell. When I started modding for PotC I understood that I want make it the way Build mod was: a modpack which can be downloaded from Internet and installed free of any charges. That's why I'd resign from Engine 2.8 for 2.0 version (we shouldn't lie to ourselves, the only thing visible from outside which was improved in those newer versions was graphics and that one ship model could use up to three different textures - in AoP that feature was used to add unrealistic extenal plating of the hull); such update isn't worth the price. Besides, when migrating we would need to drop everything we made in Build for all those years, which also is a bad thing.

I think we should just ask Akella for help. We still need to send them another e-mail, but I haven't found the time and opportunity yet to do so.

As for moving to CoAS: It would be great if we could do that and keep (most of?) our modding work. I wouldn't mind working on a new engine, because it is found there are some major improvements in it. Examples include different textures on one ship, lamps on ships, ships on the worldmap don't disappear after going into 3D sailing mode, there are new animations for characters, etc. The PotC Build mod on the Storm 2.8 engine <i>could</i> be much better.

But there's a bunch of drawbacks: It'd be really hard porting our work and the new engine would probably require more system resources, so not everybody could play it anymore. Also I don't want people to have to pay for our work; it was made intended to be freely available for anyone who wants it. But, of course, modding CoAS doesn't necessarily mean our work has to be included in an official add-on pack.

I think there's some major possibilities there, but for now we simply cannot do it with the limited manopower we've got. Especially considering that a big part of that manpower (Pirate_KK) doesn't feel much for doing it anway. So for now we should just stick to PotC. And perhaps we'll never even move to CoAS. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Also, still we need CoAS to be released in a western version. We dont know if this game is even more bugged than AoP.

But suppose it comes with user-friendly tools, with attached helpfiles in english:
This would make us able to add new stuff. Would´nt this equal the amount of work required to port our stuff to 2.8?
I really think PotC´s "concrete wall against all creativity" and its lack of proper modding tools stand in our way, way too often.

Basically any release date we might give you, just add another year to it and then you might have an accurate result. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Oh? I think I keep messing up the dates again.

Suddenly, I hear the voice of a person I once knew. When I told him I'm not selling my mobile, he said: "Bah. You'll never be a good businessman."
Not that I agree with him or anything, but he does have a point. People doing good things for free just won't last too long.

It does last long actually; it's lasted over four years now. That's the good thing about the internet: you can do things <i>without</i> asking money in return. Before I did work on PotC, I made 3D models for a sailing simulator Virtual Sailor. I never asked money for that either. In one case someone even offered me money to make a certain ship model. I did make the model, but for free. I'd work for money, but my hobbies are for free. And I don't exactly need the money either. I don't have a lot of it, but I don't need it either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Keep up the great work modders!!!

You have added immense value and replayability to the game. PotC + the Build Mod has the best and most realistc naval combat system of any game I have ever played. The added features of each new build have kept me coming back to this game since its release. Keep up the great work!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />
