Wacky News Stories

DELAWARE, Ohio — A central Ohio woman accused of spraying sheriff's deputies with breast milk is facing charges including disorderly conduct. The Delaware County sheriff's office says deputies responded to a call about a domestic dispute early Saturday, and a man told them his wife was drinking at a wedding and hit him before locking herself in a car.
The sheriff says deputies found the woman in a car and tried to talk with her, but she didn't cooperate. He says when deputies tried to remove her, she said she was a breast-feeding mother, then exposed part of her chest and sprayed them with breast milk.
Authorities say 30-year-old Stephanie Robinette of Westerville faces charges including domestic violence, assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Jail officials didn't know whether she has an attorney.

Bicyclists report getting smacked by angry bird

Riders in Pendleton, Ore., told the East Oregonian that a male hawk is dive-bombing them because they're too close to a nest he's guarding in an old cottonwood tree. Bicyclist Mack Temple says the bird came in from behind like a fighter plane and whacked his helmet. Another rider, Charlie Newhouse, says the attack on his helmet was "like getting hit with a baseball bat." He says the talons went in through the helmet.

Bird-watchers say the large bird is a Swainson's hawk. The riders say he's been vigilant for a few nesting seasons, but hasn't been as aggressive as this year.

Bird-watchers say the hawk will ease up once his brood learns to fly.

How Often Do Air Conditioners Fall Out of NYC Windows and Kill People?

The report cites "Another person, on the mixed marital arts forum of Sherdog". What exactly are mixed marital arts? ;)

One of the comments is "Are you people insane? The reason I walk down the middle of the street is to avoid plummeting pianos!", presumably from someone who has been playing the game "Hitman - Blood Money" a little too often. In that game you get to kill someone by dropping a piano. :)

A victory for the Pastafarians! Austrian driver's religious headgear strains credulity
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14135523
Quote: An Austrian atheist has won the right to be shown on his driving-licence photo wearing a pasta strainer as "religious headgear".

Niko Alm first applied for the licence three years ago after reading that headgear was allowed in official pictures only for confessional reasons.

Mr Alm said the sieve was a requirement of his religion, pastafarianism.

The Austrian authorities required him to obtain a doctor's certificate that he was "psychologically fit" to drive.

The idea came into Mr Alm's noodle three years ago as a way of making a serious, if ironic, point.

A self-confessed atheist, Mr Alm says he belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light-hearted faith whose members call themselves pastafarians. continued...

Gates Foundation Initiative To Revolutionize The Toilet For Clean Drinking Water
First Posted: 7/13/11 03:33 PM ET Updated: 7/14/11 03:41 PM ET

The newest project from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is set to revolutionize the toilet.

Together with the German government, the project aims to provide 800,000 people in Kenya with access to sanitation facilities and clean drinking water for 200,000 people, reports TIME.

According to the magazine, Bill Gates says it's time to leave the era of the classic toilet behind, and he points out that despite all of the recent achievements, 40 percent of the world's population, or some 2.5 billion people, still live without proper means of flushing away excrement.

Toilets aren't the only focus for the Foundation. The Associated Press reports that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is planning to provide a dozen researchers with an additional $1 million over five years to test life-saving ideas, such as using microwaves to kill malaria parasites. The toilets seem to be another unique focus for the Foundation, with potentially huge results.

TIME reports that the lack of sanitation facilities increases the spread of disease, and UNICEF estimates that globally, 1.1 billion people don't have access to any kind of toilet or means of safely eliminating waste. At least 1.2 million children under the age of five die from diarrhea each year, caused by undrinkable water.

The project is working on two important initiatives. The first is to construct sanitation facilities in rural areas and slums, and the other is a research project that is giving grants to scientists who come up with new ideas for using human excrement. TIME writes:

In view of the world's limited water resources, both the Gates Foundation and German Development Policy support various projects for dry toilets that do not use water to flush and that separate excrement from urine in order to dry it.
World-wide access to adequate sanitation is a long time goal for the Gates Foundation. At the Techonomy conference last year, Gates took the stage to discuss something most people shy away from, reports TechCrunch:

"We're gonna have a breakthrough in the latrines," he continued. He said that while the flushable toilet is the gold standard, it isn't efficient at all. Someone is going to fix that, according to Gates.

Woman arrested for texting the word 'jerk'
The one word was enough to get police involved in case that had a history

Police say a Pennsylvania woman was arrested Monday for violating a police order to cease contact with her ex-boyfriend, reports the Morning Call.
On Saturday around 2:30 a.m., 45-year-old Kimberly Bush sent a text to her ex. The text read “jerk,” according to the arrest affidavit obtained by the newspaper.
Normally, such a text message would not seem out of the ordinary between exes, but in this case, it left ex-boyfriend David Gosnell, Sr., a little spooked.
Police say that Gosnell was worried after receiving the text and that he felt Bush was lurking outside of his home that night, reports the Morning Call.
Just last Thursday, Bush, of Nazareth, was charged with entering Gosnell's house unlawfully on June 4 to recover a DVD, according to the paper.
Bush was arraigned and released on $2,500 with the condition she would no longer contact Gosnell.
Texting him was a clear violation of that condition.

I'm not sure if you all have seen it or not, but you may want to have a look at THIS thread, unfortunately, Stallion may be away from the forums for a while. :shrug

...I do however find it interesting that this happened just before the pony invasion ... xD:

Glendale Man Attempts Hernia Surgery On Himself With Butter Knife

A Glendale, Calif. man who attempted to repair his own hernia using a butter knife is recovering at USC Medical Center, the Glendale News-Press reports.

KTLA spoke to Sgt. Tom Lorenz with the Glendale police department who said that officers responding to the call encountered the 63-year naked, reclining on a lounge chair with a knife sticking out of his abdomen.

From The Associated Press:

The sergeant says that while waiting for paramedics, the man pulled out the knife and stuffed a cigarette he was smoking into the wound.

He should have cut open his skull instead and installed a brain.
