Trophies in the Free Play mode

Milady de Winter getting something more interesting to do...? :cheeky
She's my test subject. Being the second character in sequence if you leave the settings as "Specific" without picking a nation, she's the quickest way to get a FreePlay agent.

@pedrwyth, @Jack Rackham: is the gambler quest anywhere near finished? If so, I'll hold off until it is. Otherwise I'd like to upload the next update soon. So if there are any other new fixes for "Mysterious Plants", "Woodes Rogers" or anything else, please upload those.

:rofl:rofl Not really and we're in no hurry. I'm more used to fixing things than creating an idea from scratch. So I'm learning to make the code first so that when it doesn't do what you expect you have something to fix or try a different approach. So I would suggest you carry on.

There is nothing else I have in hand.

Yes I got some other files. It's WoodesRogers bugfixes, many other fixes and the famous song group
the Coastbrothes performance now included as a bonuschapter for WR.
Also the engineer's small quest: you can sell stolen books. And if you manage to steal them all...

Is there a reason for moving the book definitions from FreePlay's "initQuestItems.c" to the general "initItems.c"? The descriptions are still local to FreePlay so if they are used in any other storyline, they won't appear correctly.

It's an effect of changing them so they can be sold. These books shouldn't be used elsewhere as they are copies of
books used in WoodesRogers.

Perhaps you could try putting the definitions back into "initQuestItems.c", but use the same 'initItem' lines that you used in "initItems.c"? It should work - I've an 'initItem' line and an 'InitBLDinterior' line in Ardent's "initQuestItems.c".

Not sure if I have tried that because I changed it so many times before I got everything to work. But now it works so I'm happy with it.

Would you mind if I give it a try? If it works like that, can I put it in the update? The reason is that we've had problems before when an object had no description and showed up with a basic "itmname_descr" in its interface picture, so it's best if both definition and description are either general or storyline-specific.

Not at all. If it works it's fine with me.

It's just that I'm not so interested in spending time on things that work.

Here's the complete content of my latest upload:
improvements:
engineer trophy quest: books can be sold
engineer trophy quest: steal all books and something new will happen
coastbrothers song and dance performance included as a bonus chapter in WR 2
Cartagena: the cathedral is seen from a neighbour location, now right church
new locator group sit2 now visible locators

bugfixes:
WR 1 shop fight: one enemy never showed up
WR 1 shop fight: three enemies had forgotten their blades at home
danielle_quests_pirate_dialog.c: you got a million not 5000
GB: Moultrie_offduty4 didn't show up in Moultrie_tavern
WR 1: typo dmaper not damper
WR 1: typo " after else
Cartagena: small fix in walkpatch upon Levis changes
soundfile Gibbs01.wav was corrupt

Thanks! :cheers I believe some of that was in the previous upload - certainly the Coast Brothers' performance had been added to WR2. I've changed "Moultrie_offduty4" to use locator group "sit2", in line with the change I made to the locator file, so neither he nor anyone else in a similar location will have a phantom light under his seat. (Thanks again for making the "sit2" locators visible!) And I've merged Cartagena to include all the work from you, @Levis and myself - your fixes for the cathedral and town centre, @Levis' casino and houses, my trade office.

The same WinMerging also gave me a hint as to what happens if you steal all the books, so I'm going to replay the quest next chance I get - which will also let me check if putting the book definitions into the storyline folder will work.

The Coastbrothers files were added earlier but the thing wasn't not connected with the story until now.
Thanks for the offduty4 guy.

When the church now is changed in Cartagena there are some files that could be removed from
Town_Redmond/Town_01: church1.gm and it's 4 Col-files.

I aslo notice a very old upload mistake from me: Textures/Locations/Shipyard3 folder shouldn't be here at all
it's already in it's right place.

@Grey Roger: Could you maintain a list of files that should be removed some time?
That has to be done through the Installer EXE, but I cannot yet vouch for when I'll find a good time of making a new one.

Been looking a little more closely at the Gambler in FreePlay whilst testing aspects of the trophy quest. The new captain's log entry in part reads "The old sea dog thought his four kings had me beat but my royal straight flush took the grin from his face fast enough. Ha! I didn’t even cheat."

Well someone clearly did because that means 5 kings on the table - no wonder it ends in a challenge for cheating.

That's a nice touch and all fine except the questbook says "playing dice" so I've amended that to poker and attach the file (goes in RESOURCES/INI/TEXTS/ENGLISH/Storyline/FreePlay/QUESTBOOK).

Hmm...

I'd already changed the lines from "I challenged him to a game of dice..." to "I challenged him to a game of cards...", and you'll find that in the newest update which I uploaded earlier today. But although I'd spotted that the log entry indicated a card game rather than dice, I didn't look as closely at the hands and their implication. I'd always taken it that the old captain, being a poor loser (especially if his ship was at stake) claimed you had cheated, to which you took offence because you had not, which led to the duel.

According to various sites, poker as we know it with five cards is relatively recent. No, that does not mean I have any intention of changing the game in PoTC, especially not with your forthcoming quest! But it does mean that the ship log entry should probably change. There were some predecessors to poker being played a lot earlier, such as primero, which used four cards and in which four of a kind would be the best hand. Perhaps change the ship log to "... but my four aces took the grin from his face fast enough"? That works for poker, also works for primero, and therefore works in all periods, even Early Explorers.

Fine, but a bit of a shame to lose the double grievance of being called for cheating when you weren't and by someone who clearly was cheating themselves to explain your indignation, that some modder took the trouble to put in there.

OK, then leave the whole lot as it is in this morning's update - the questbook already changes "dice" to "cards" and the ship log can stay as it is. Doing nothing seems to work and is also easiest! :D

@pedrwyth thanks, I'm not too familiar with all the background professions but I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I come up with an idea.
I actually indeed have a vague idea for the explorer profession.

It would require the/a cartographer. Would the one in Santiago be usable or would there be any collisions with the family story quest?

Also I've played the engineer quest. Very nice! I guess it's over when I have the gun and the quest book closes (except for stealing the books, but I'm too afraid of the librarian :rofl).

The only thing I didn't quite understand was the notes on the map about left being right and such.
