The Kraken??

That' s good idea.
And then let's say that you get control of the kraken(control the Dutchman,....) you could go to special actions and choose kraken, then you would only choose which ship and kraken would appear in front of that ship. But becouse this would be too powerful let's say that you can only use that once time in the battle.
 
Yes, it would have a nice effect I assume, but it would require alot of helm skills. Plus, the Kraken isn't stupid, it restrains itself to victim ships to make attacking easier which keeps them at their place. But...it would make fighting the kraken easier as you would be able to target each tentacle automatically. I say it shouldn't be superpowerful against ships, but against the crew and the sails. It would be more realistic as you are extremely dependant to the crew to man the cannons to able to attack it in the first place.
 
I have some thoughts here:

The "Kraken floating goods" sounds like the best idea so far, and I say go for it. Next, you should make two huge tentacles that would arise at the end of the attack to smash your ship and finish you off. These two would be the only ones to take off hull HP, around 50% per hit. So if the two tentacles hit you once, you better pray you're fast enough to escape, or you're dead. I don't know exactly how the game goes about doing this, but when the Kraken jabs at the gunports, the ship should splinter like taking a cannonball hit. I'm saying this in case there has to be some sort of locator or trigger on the tip of the jabbing tentacles.
If you command the <i>Flying Dutchman</i>, the ability to cause one of your ship to blow up in battle is replaced with a Kraken attack. I also think that there should be a new weapon, the pike, that you can store in your weaponslocker. Pikes would be the only thing to help repel a Kraken attack (besides firing your ship's guns) and would reduce your crew's losses by around 20%.

What say you?
 
well, those two arms would simply occur after a set amount of time. your ship would be able to survive until then, so it's more of defeating the kraken before the time runs out.
 
How do you defeat the Kraken though? If we were to go with the tentacle goods: You can't fire at them; that has no effect. The only option I see is to RUN!
 
I do realise ship models aren't animated...but I wasn't planning on making a animated ship...I meant letting a model move simultaneously with a dummy ship.
 
You might be able to make a ship that looks like the Kraken. Or alternatively a Kraken model attached to an invisible ship. But as far as I know, neither of these options brings you any closer to a moving Kraken. It'll move around in the 3D space, but it won't move it's tentacles or anything. And still the only weapon the Kraken could have are cannons, which might look odd. if it would be possible to make some new kind of ammo, then it wouldn't be as odd. the kraken shooting slime or something, for instance.

Not to mention the fire effects and explosions... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
 
and the splinters and barrels. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> especially those coming off the kraken.
 
Yesterday I had this brilliant idea! :p
What if...the kraken quickly moves to your ship..and when it has you it "boards" you. Then you would have to "fight" off the tentacles on your deck. That would give you more of a feeling that the kraken is actually attacking you. And the tentacles would be placed around the deck giving damage to any crewmember while whipping with his tentacles at the deck. With a pike you should be able to defend yourself against the attacks. Plus, the decks should preferrably be modified to add the tentacles restrained to the ship that keep it in place. If you survive long enough, you win and you return to sailing view...with time to escape before it returns and it "boards" you again making you have to survive again. Or as an alternative, it would slither around the deck and when you touch it you take damage if you don't have a pike equipped and you could "kill" the tentacle using a pike and then it would have a death animation like it pulls it back underwater instead of actually dying. I believe this would be alot easier and more realistic than having to fight it than in sailing mode.

That might be possible by making characters that look like Kraken tentacles. However, this will require quite some coding rewrites. Not to mention making a 100% new character with 100% new animation, which has never been done by anyone in our modding team. So as far as the game engine is concerned: I think something like this would be possible. But it will be far from easy, especially with nobody having the required knowledge and having a serious lack of modders.

The most realistic option at this point is probably adding the tentacle floating goods into the game. That would be relatively easy to accomplish, although even this would be rather challenging. AGH! We just really need more modders! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
For the tentacle goods idea, you'd only need to model some tentacles. Then we'd have these tentacles be generated on the sea around a ship and every time you sail over a tentacle, you take damage. Depending on the strength of the attack, we can have more tentacles be generated or have them being generated over a longer period of time. I would also suggest having the tentacles being generated around the same location so that when you manage to get away from that location without sinking, you'll have survived the attack.
 
I don't like it either, but it's the easiest way to accomplish it. However, your idea sounds possible, so if you want to try it, be my guest. Well...that's my problem...I don't understand this new code the build mod brought in...I'm not familiar enough with the code to be able to add things, if someone can teach me? I learn pretty fast...But I can animate and I can model
 
The main thing to find out would be: Can you make a new character model into the game and have it work? The second question would be: Can you define new animation for this character. So the first thing you should try is to take an existing character from the game and try to modify the model in a 3D program, then put it back into the game. It can be done: High Sea Lass did it with several character models using the Tool in combination with 3D Studio MAX. However, nobody now knows how to really do it anymore. If you manage to do that, we would already be a huge step forwards.
