Are your torpedoes missing by passing to the rear of the ship??

If so I have found out one thing that helps...The firing solution on the TDC is accurate only if the torpedo tube doors are open. That is if you enter your solution into the TDC and fire the tube without first opening the doors you will most likely miss to the rear more often than not. This is because if you fire with the door closed...the few seconds that it takes for it to open and then fire the torpedo just threw your entire solution off and you stand a good chance of the torpedo passing to the rear of the ship.Which makes sense since even modern subs open their doors first then fire.So it is best is to open the doors first..then fire the tubes.Almost all of the time the torpedos will strike right were you fired them...unless the target does a turn or speeds up.

I don't know what it is that I am doing different, I have never had so many missed torps in one game. I had a 4 or 5 to 5 ratio of hits, now its like 1 or 2 to 5.

Also are you sure they are actually missing and not duds.Another problem is high angle hits can glance off the curved underside of the ship and not detonate.Best is to try to get a 90 degree angle off bow shot on the target...then open your torpedo door, now if the weather is good and the seas arent to rough set the torpedo to magnetic/impact and set the running depth to 1 to 1 1/2 meters below the keel depth of the target so it blows under the keel of the boat.Using magnetic setting in rough seas can cause premature detonation of the torpedos.

I will sometimes take 1-2 hours just to set up the perfect shot on my target.

I have yet to see anything bigger than a Light Cruiser in the game.

Though since I have installed WorldMod 2.0..harbors have become quite busy and I am hoping to see a larger ship soon.I am going to go raid Scapa Flow again on my next patrol and then head over and try to cause some havoc during the Dunkirk evacuations when they start.

Well I got my first Task Force sighted report from BdU.

Problem is I was patrolling near Liverpool and the Task Force was sighted steaming toward Firth of Clyde going west to east north of Ireland.

Dont know if you've seen the new smoke mod that is out yet.It is a must get for SH3.Here is a screenshot of the smoke mod in effect.Gives the smoke a real nice thick black oily look to it that you see in real pics of WW2 ships hit by torpedos. The still image does not do the mod justice though..looks much better in action.
