1st patrol was pretty bore'n n uneventful,be think'n me Radar man going blind from guzzl'n me Snakebite brew,an me Sonar man going deaf from me cuff'n in de ears wid me favourite pipe wrench,nada fer contacts,spent most O' me time in me bunk since grid area te patrol is a hefty distance te travel,sail'n on surface at night an cruis'n de depths dur'n day.here's apic leav'n Brest sub pen

Anyhow finished up kill'n off a few merchants on de way back ,nuth'n te write home about,me crew pretty dissapointed as well as meself,racked up a measley 350 renown points ye need te buy upgrades fer yer Uboat,didn't have enuff te even buy a decent bottle O' rum,tuff luck an that run fer sure.

2nd Patrol,decided te take a totaly diffrent approach,plotted a search pattern on de navigation map off de coast O' Ireland and England,figured thar bound te be plenty O' action,not part O' de patrol area,screw high command anyways <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> anyways ,I'd be lay'n in me bunk think'n a ways te torture me Watch Officer cause he never shows up on de bridge when ye surface,gotta go down te Bow Quarters an drag his sorry arse te de bridge everytime,Yep ,me Radar Man yells out,large Convoy,Bear'n 40 Degrees,moving slow.Dam,finaly ye said sump'n wurth wake'n me up fer Lad.
Quickly orderd de Helmsmen te make Periscope depth,an set course 40*orderd de C.E. te rig fer silent runn'n,fer sure thar will be a number O' escorts te watch fer.Eagerly jumped fer attack periscope and when she slipped above de surface,directly in front O' me at 4500 meters at 4 knots was a convoy O' C2 cargo ships carry'n planes and tanks on thar decks,counted 5 O' them plus a couple o' big Ol tankers,and no escorts, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> too dam easy I'd be think'n,next step was te plot a course on de Navgation map fer a parallel course tew de convoy and shadow it.So far so good,no escorts ping'n me carcas and I'm undetected as I approach de middle O' de convoy,plotted a head'n directly into it,decided te leave me W.O. out of it,why should he have all O' de fun <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Locked on te e first C2 ship at 1200 meters,set me torps fer fast,ye could see rows O' tanks on her deck and I'd be have'n a clean bow shot right about her center,only had a limited amount O' torps,so didn't want te waste even one,fired torp 1 at 900m
she hit dead center O' C2 cargo ship an she split in two one shot <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> did the same with 4 more C2 an a couple O' tankers,when all de smoke cleared,
surface de boat an sure enuff when I' be gett'n te de bridge,no Watch Officer,when me Radar Man hollers out contact,Bear'n 70 degees,warship close'n fast,I'd so mad at em fergot about de contact,scrambled below deck an found me W.O in de Bow Quarters play'n wid his nuts,I hollerd at em ,get yer lazy arse up te de bridge afore I have ye keelhauled at 140 meters at flank speed.Once we were both on de bridge,he says te me, ummm,thars a warship bear'n down on us Sir!,Dam fergot all about de warship,whipped out me binocs an sure enuff,he was a British Destroyer haul'n ass and bent on putt'n some holes in me boat.Dive the boat me hollers make depth 130meters as de crew scrambles below deck.Still curse'n at me W.O.,orderd rig fer silent runn'n an checked wid de navigator fer depth under keel,10 meters he says,Heh.'ats a lucky break since were at 130 meters,I ordered make depth 140 meters and at 135 meters orderd an all stop,sonar man whispers,enemy ping'n us,second thing he's said all day,curse'n him as well.
Well me Uboat settles on de bottom with a slight thud an a few creaks,as I'm stand'n in de command room look'n at me officers an crew,ye could see fear in thar eyes,after a few more creaks from me boat,all was quite,enemy ping'n had stopped,after a few more minutes O'quite,sonar man whispers,depth charges in the water sir,Dam,curse'n again at him yer jest full O' good news.The sounds O' de charges were off at a distance fortunatly
so orderd tired crew members an meself te our bunks,mine being with'n spitt'n distance O' either radar and sonar,I could still keep one eye on things.After a lengthy wait,orderd tew make depth 50 meters and ahead slow,Radar,Sonar make one sweep,both replied no contact Sir!Heh!its a good thing me crew don't know I'm a newbie Sub Cap'n xD:anyhow,make a `B-line` fer home at warp speed,docked me Uboat in its appropiate pen widout putt'n adent in her pecious hull, a dead giveaway fer a newbie Cap'n <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> conclusion O' patrol,550 Renown points,much better than 350 on first patrol,5x C2 cargo ships plus 2xbig Ol' tankers fer a total O' 166,566 tons.3 x Iron Crosses awarded te two O' me crew an one was awarded te meself.Enuff Renown points te upgrade Sonar Coating on me sub,which sure could come in handy fer DD ping'n me earlier,a final touch earned a 1st Flotilla emblem fer de side O' me sub.as a final thought,don't think I' be curse'n so much as at the same time have'n a real hoot wid this subsim

appreciate yer comments though,ye really get into this game as a German Uboat commander,ye have no choice in that matter,the graphics are equal te POTC,specatcular views above and below the water,sub damage and crew management are very realistic and you actually feel fatigued after one patrol,swear I grew a half beard on me first patrol and full one on me second <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Bought the game March 17 and the patch was released I think on the the 18th,now thats what ye call customer support <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> game appears to be pretty moddable,some small mods available now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

So what year did you start with Skull? I started in 1940, currently its 1944. Ah....no more happy days lol. I have not had too many problems with DD's or air patrols, though I hate the fact that I spent alot of renown on upgrading my AA guns when I almost never use them because I "cant man flack guns in a storm."

Its 44 for me now, June/July I think. I have a VXII I belive, Got transferd to Bergen up north. I have alot of upgrades on my sub minus sonar and radar. They have me patroling near England now, its killer out there.

I've been playing with 70% realisim, only thing I have not checked is manuel torps and gods eye map thingie.

Good luck saving up renown, the XXI sub costs 30,000! I'll probablly stick with my sub till the end of the war lol. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Don't get too close, 300 or less means the torp wont have enough time to arm by the time it reaches your target. About 1500 or less is optimal range I think, plus you have to align yourself properly.

If your using the automatic aim, its not that hard, just keep your distance, angle right, and make sure you have sufficent crew in your Bow or Stern torpedo compartments. If you have an officer with the torpedo qualification, even better.

I don't know about manual, never tried it. I just know you have to know what your doing lol, You have to adjust the speed, the gyro angle, the depth of the torp etc.
 
One Torpedo - $1000
Crew salary - $10000

The look on your face when you try to calculate the angle of torpedo while enemy destroyers are wrecking you because automatic aim failed due to OS crashing onboard your sub - priceless
