Actually, POTCs not that bad; I mean, you have reflections and blurring effects and even bow effects. My system runs potc at on average, 19 fps. now, in the LOWEST possible setting in Ship Sim 08, I am lucky to have 5fps, even with a small ship like the tug. I dunno how potc does it, but in SS tehres the Grid System; every grids quare reacts differently to the last and, dont hold me to this, but each one uses a series of lateral lines to create the texture and refractions/reflections etc. Its does look very impressive, but there really is no point as, in the official specs, you need at least 2.4 GHz to play the damn game; even then, you gotta have evrything turned right down or off. 640x480 and 16bit is what you use if you want to even begin to play the game, even then, its upsetting to play. If you have refletions or bow waves or whatever on you dont even get 2fps. Potc is a welcome breeze! Though I admit SH3 does seem to do it effortlessly.

Seriously! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I only got that mod package just to get my game lagging so hard at the harbor that it is unplayable together with loading times.. yeah, THE LOADING TIMES! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> Probably 2 years later when you finally get into yer sub just to die in lag (yeah the atmosphere inside the sub is extremly laggy after installing GWX). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />

That lag-infested GWX handed my computer's ass to me! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> So I just trashed it from my Silent Hunter 3 and called it a day! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Good thing is I took conning tower and submarine files from GWX by reinstalling it into me rig again but apart from my stock SH 3. So I replaced those stock game's sub and conning tower files with GWX's ones just to get those reflections working with those subs that had missing the reflections (on the water) or they were just missing the conning tower reflections. It worked. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> And I also got reflections for periscopes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> No fps drop. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> Also I got some mods from Subsim forums and one mod I got is a water improving mod which also fixed the water being ridiculously milky all over the place when looking at the sun direction. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> I also found out how to get emblems working in the stock game when starting a new career. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Oh and I found a perfect deck texture for me red hulled Type IIA And Type IID. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Gonna take those pictures sometimes later. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Sounds like you won't be using it long enough to find the real <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> and <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" /> that is GWX


Now, if you can find the previous version named GW1, you'll find it rather playable.

But now you know better, so stay away from the GWX stuff.

And remember there are other super mods (remember what that phrase means on this forum) that are also playable.
