Ship Pack Details and Updates

Latest update:

We have a further improved Black Pearl in the works, which incorporates the Build 14 hull with more film-accurate rigging, similar to the Build 13 model.
This is a joint effort between myself and FKWOLF555, and despite some initial complications, I expect the final version will make its way into the ship pack.
Also, I'm glad to see the Surprise and Poseidon models coming along so well, recently! :woot

One thing that recently struck me is that I haven't seen the latest La Couronne or Apostol Felipe listed in any patches/ship packs.
By 'latest', I mean the versions with the fixed lighting and improved textures.
Can someone confirm that? If so, then these two will definitely be included in this pack. :dance

They are in the CoAS GoF mod. I coud not tell you about PoTC, all that was done was Pgargon posted them and we put them in.

Nice news and sounds like you all are doing awesome work to!

Latest update:

I've recently improved the rigging of Corvette1_47, which had 'missing' ropes until now.
They were actually there all this time, but I discovered that some were 'fal' locators, so didn't show up in PotC.
Anyway, having amended that, here's how she's looking now:

I plan to improve the flags for this ship, too. The only thing which will remain to annoy me is the reverse lighting bug on the hull. :modding
Which reminds me; do we have a list of any known reverse lighting ships? If not, that might be something to look at doing.
After all, we can't still be having bugged ships for Beta 2, when the time comes!

I'm also adding the latest La Couronne and Apostol Felipe to this pack, assuming I forgot to include them in the Xmas pack. :facepalm

No problem guys, I'm glad that improvement was worth it. :cheers

In other news, I've just managed to fix a long-standing problem for RN_Warship, where the whole crew was floating just above the deck!
Using TOOL's 'Edit Scene' function, I raised the hull by 0.5 units, and then added 0.5 to all the locators' y-coordinates.
As if by magic, the crew now walk properly on the deck; no messy Maya conversions needed!

Many thanks to Craiggo for pointing out the 'Edit Scene' function to me. It's proved useful already! :doff

Yes, I had to change it from 0 to 0.7 to get the right balance.

Does that not introduce the reverse lighting error? Can't you take the walk file coordinates down instead? :?

I think that the reverse light bug it's only when converting from wrml to gm or reverse, for example, if i save a model to wrml with tool, it has all the faces reversed and i have to reverse the faces before import it in sketchup... Using edit scene no problem...

Nope, no reverse lighting bug. ;)
I could have just lowered those coordinates, but there's no WAY I'd have the time or patience to do so... that's a LOT to go through.
It was less effort to lower the hull's locators with the model; and besides, it gave me a chance to experiment with the Edit Scene function. :cheeky

Latest update:

How many of you remember the stock game's poor old 'Fearless' model?
An unfinished rush job by the developers, available only through changing the starting ship code, I'm sure this model was never found by many players.
Along came the Build Mod, and this ship was finally brought to light, with new textures and a new ID, now called the 'Warship'.
However, even after that, the ship still seemed a bit... well, rubbish. Most would consider it ugly to look at, with a short hull and flat stern, and awful rigging.

Well, if you do remember that ship, I bet you'll struggle to recognise it now:

[attachment=6148:RN_Third_Rate.jpg] [attachment=6149:RN_Third_Rate_bow.jpg] [attachment=6150:RN_Third_Rate_stern.jpg]

You see, I couldn't bear to look at it in its terrible state any longer, so I made... a few adjustments. :cheeky
Firstly: rigging- completely replaced, now using a similar format to the 'HeavyWarship' models.
Secondly: texture- a heavily modified version of RN_Third_Rate's texture, to give the ship a brand new look.
Thirdly: detail- more of it! Now includes details such as anchors, a bell, a wheel, and even lifeboats hanging over the sides! (at the expense of reverse lighting, unfortunately, having used parts from Seb's work)
Plus: you've been lied to! The ship is quoted as a 44-Gun vessel, and has as many guns modelled, but only 40 have locators! The missing ones have now been added.

So... what do you think of the new look Warship? Is it enough to preserve her as a decent model in the game?
All comments appreciated. :cheers

I've not seen those before, but they look very nice! :woot
I'm sure one or both would look far better in PotC than some of our older textures...

So you have dolled up the old 40 and 44 gun 5th rates. Cool! :bow They make very good escort ships for merchant ships. I for one would be sad to see these ugly ducklings sent to the wreckers. :764: And with Craiggo's upgrades.....

Cheers me hearteys! Glad I could breath new life into this old 'ugly duckling', as mklkit so aptly put it. :cheers

Anyway my plan now is probably to release this pack in just over a week's time, when I have a two week break from college.
But before I can do that, this pack needs a name!
I'm open to anything you guys can come up with, because admittedly, I'm stumped. :hmm
Essentially, it's an extended pack including all the Xmas pack content, plus many new/fixed/upgraded/improved ships, and a couple of extras, such as sail textures etc.
So, please throw any ideas in, and I'm sure something will work out.

I was thinking along those lines too. Everything else I think of even sounds dumb to me.
