POTC Build 14A7 - Bug List

Sulan

Codelubber
Storm Modder
Ahoy all,

as the Bug Tracker seems not to be used regularly anymore, I would like to set up a complete bug list. In order to avoid that people work on fixes for the same bugs, every modder/bug fixer can add a comment here on each bug. I would also appreciate working with the bug tracker - so if that one is re-activated, this topic can be completely removed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Status of bugs:

<!--coloro:#FF8C00--><span style="color:#FF8C00"><!--/coloro-->discovered<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> - bug noticed by someone
<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->confirmed <!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> - confirmed by other players
<!--coloro:#0000FF--><span style="color:#0000FF"><!--/coloro-->working on fix<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> [Name] - someone working to fix this bug, so others having an idea how to fix it, can contact him/her
<!--coloro:#9ACD32--><span style="color:#9ACD32"><!--/coloro-->fixed<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> [Name] [@file] - bug fixed (if possible files to fix the bug attached)
<!--coloro:#00FF00--><span style="color:#00FF00"><!--/coloro-->fix confirmed<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> - bug fix tested by another player and confirmed working.

The most difficult part - putting the working fixes together - is done by Pirate_KK.

I will update the following list regularly as soon as some comments on bugs/fixes/work in progress are added to this thread. Please include links when referring to new bugs mentioned elsewhere on this forum. So the information in this main topic should be up-to-date.

How about adding:
Traders suddenly lose all stock on trade interface. Exiting to sea view once this happens causes a crash. <!--coloro:#FF8C00--><span style="color:#FF8C00"><!--/coloro-->[Discovered]<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

@morgan terror: Yes, I read so - I just want to list it here for completeness, as it remains a bug. And maybe some genious will find a solution, who knows? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

@fudge dragon: Done.

@a simple virtual sailor: changed it to "Non-English". I already started working on a fix (hopefully for all languages).

i've read a vague hint about a bug where all your ship's gunpowder would dissapear at once. not sure about it at all though.

Some more maybe-bugs I encountered:

1. When on the Worldmap and the crew needs to be paid (showing the 'Do you want to pay' window) the following bug occurs: If you click yes to pay the crew and right after that switch to the open sea (3D sailing) the engine crashes - it seems to be the salary.c file causing the crash. Maybe the calculations are not complete when exiting from Worldmap?

2. Enemies gaining health when they hit me and I block: Occurs quite frequently: I hit an enemy and see the following numbers over their heads:
15/76 13/81 10/82 15/74 etc ... health getting more, then less, then more again. What's that? Some people are nearly invincible this way. A special example is Malcolm in the tutorial. It is impossible to win a fight against him, so he always proposes to practice some more. (my difficulty setting is Journeyman)

3. In the Maltese Knight Abbey/Dungeon if you dig up the treasures, sometimes one of the invincible Skeletons from the Black Pearl appears, slaughtering you or the complete rest of the dungeon. I think invincible enemies should not appear there. It spoils the fun - you only have to save and load a lot.

If someone notices a bug listed here in-game, it would be nice to post confirmations for the unconfirmed items - so we don't have too many rumors in the list <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

i wouldn't say that enemies become invincible this way. you just need a sword that does a whole lot more damage. low quality swords are suicidal at higher levels.

the guys that can't be killed are supposed to be there, but i think it's kinda fun really. you really have to run for your life for a change.

>> i wouldn't say that enemies become invincible this way. you just need a sword that does a whole lot more damage. low quality swords are suicidal at higher levels.

OK, so it's not a "feature" not a bug. But still someone needs to look at it. If you start a game, you are level 1, maximum 3 - how are you supposed to get a sword able to kill these modified enemies? Maybe it works fine if you are on Apprentice difficulty, but on higher difficulty levels, it is not more difficult, but merely impossible - the people have more HP and heal like crazy. What's the point of self-healing people anyway? If you want more difficulty, give them more HP, but the current setting does not make sense to me.

>> the guys that can't be killed are supposed to be there, but i think it's kinda fun really. you really have to run for your life for a change.

OK, I remove it from the bug list, as it seems to be intended ... happens rather often though that these skeletons appear (maybe depending on my bad luck <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> )

the thing is, that the enemies simply sometimes have toughness. it has already been lowered several times, but i haven't had any problems with it, even when it was in it's old state.

Ah ok - then maybe toughness needs again to be worked on - at least for higher difficulty settings.

I think that we can say Traders suddenly lose all stock. Exiting to sea view CTD. is now confirmed. A number of posts have cropped up related to it. However the 2 facts may not be related as I originality thought.
On a side note. I can't win the sword fight against Malcolm either and I play on Apprentice usually (so I can speed through and discover bugs).
I don't think there's a particular problem with toughness. You can have it as well and it doesn't make you invisible (Indeed I can't hold up if a boarding goes wrong, and like I said I'm on Apprentice. You just need to make sure you have a decent sword and good melee skills that are comparable to the opponent. I do however agree that Malcolm shouldn't have toughness. The point of that fight is that If you win it you should have got the hand of sword technique.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Mates,

I play a little with Build14A7 and found some problems with sound:

1) With master&commander music addon I notice a general decrease of performance during sea battle (I think that the files are too big for medium system, AMD3000XP+ 500MB RAM + GFORCE5 128GR), while I used an older version of M&C Music I never encounter performance problem.

2) During sea battle I can't hear enemy cannon sound, and I have these error in the log;

RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 538
invalid index -1 [size:300]
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 538
invalid array index
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 538
function 'Set Musicstack error

3) With POTC music addon I notice missed music during 2D Navigation.

However, this build is another great step ahead for POTC Modding, and Setup it's really professional, great work Pirate_KK <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> I hope you can find another little time to fix this little bugs, so your success in Pieter Boelen succession will be complete <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> bye, bye,

Aye giuliootto,

I think the performance decrease has nothing to do with the sounds. It also occurs if you don't have a sound modpack active (bug 5 of the list).

I list the rest as new bugs.

Cheers
Sulan

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Invincible pirates in Maltese Knight dungeon<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->That is deliberate. The skeleton is, however, enemy of everybody and can either be a help or a problem, depending on whether you manage to keep away from it. You just have to RUN! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

With the swordfight against Malcolm: In previous game versions (Alpha 6 and down; I don't have Alpha 7), what would happen to me occasionally was that I was fighting with Malcolm the first time and winning, then I'd get a level-up and immediately got the "better try again" dialog. Beats me why; makes no sense. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Ahoy,

I have created a patch for the Non-English versions of POTC which were screwed up by the diverse Runme.bat files. This patch will also add some missing files to these versions, so the pre-installation of Build 12.1 should not be necessary anymore now. Installation instructions are included in readme.txt.

So far I was only able to test it for the German version (I don't own another <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />), so any feedback on other language versions is highly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sulan

I must insist, Big sound files decrease performance during play, I notice this issue every time I added a new sound modpack with file greater than the original, probably in a new system this couldn't be notice.

I have to add another problem related to the sound in the list:

With Standard sound setting the music are totally missed on sea.

a thing on the sun setting in the east:

there are two reasons why this can't be fixed:

1: if the place of the sun would be changed, the lighting would be off.

2: if the lighting would/could be changed to fit that of the evening, the lighting for the morning would be off, as the sun also rises in the east.
