New Program Idea

I think this has been discussed before, but..
What if you reverse the lightning BEFORE you export to VRML into Inez´Tool?

And do we have the source code for Inez´tool? Otherwise, it will be hard for an external programmer to fix the tool, as decompiling usually never results in anything useable.

I have (once again) sent a mail to Akella, asking for any help they can/will provide. Its a shame, yepi has disappeared, as I kept my hopes high for a letter in russian (maybe they´re retards in english? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />)
'

How would you propose reversing the lighting before converting? Somebody suggested to convert from GM to VRML and back AGAIN and perhaps that would fix it. But I can't do it, because the "reverse Y>Z" option is missing in my version of the Tool because of some weird Windows Vista issue. If anybody else would be willing to try, that'd be great. I think it *might* work.

As for the source code: Inez Dias wrote the program and I think she's the only person to have the source code. We could try to PM her. She sent me a PM not so long ago, but has so far not replied to me reply. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Wonder what made me write this bull*** twice(edit)
I will mail Akella once more, and I need you guys to tell me exactly what we need in order to make further progress with this mod, please.

What we would need is most notably the knowledge and tools to make ship models and possible also character and location models properly. It would also be nice if they could help us modifying the hardcoded stuff that we keep running into.

I'll quote myself:<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->How would you propose reversing the lighting before converting?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

How? That would require a 100% rewrite of EVERYTHING! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Allright allright <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
It was just a question..think commercial, Akella would most likely support mods for a game, thats still on the shelves for people to buy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

They do. As long as it's made by the Russians. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

I'm going to try max today... But somehow, i lost my maya 5.0 plugin. I'll get it back by FTP but, just a question like that, who's the creator of FTP Commander?

The creator of FTP Commander? NO idea. Here's the <a href="http://www.internet-soft.com/ftpcomm.htm" target="_blank">official site</a>. I just put it on my site because it's small and can be used without installing. It's not a perfect program. I use <a href="http://www.smartftp.com/" target="_blank">SmartFTP</a> instead.

Try that "Swap Y>Z" option? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

EDIT: I tried it myself but i really don't know how to export/import with TOOL correctly ..for me i ended up with messed texture or inverted texture. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Anyone who knows how to use this program better than me PLEASE! TRY WHAT PIETER SUGGESTED! TRY TO DO THAT gm to vrml then vrml to gm THING!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

That's what I meant. The option is missing for me, so I didn't know the exact name. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
Make sure you select the Ship/Item/Location checkbox. And if the textures are being messed up, try "Invert Texture" as well.

Ok those textures just KEEP being inside and when i get them outside their just wrongly placed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
That tool just keeps erasing ship's data (locators, collision data, light. etc). Again i tells that "blew meself up" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

I have spent the whole evening reading old posts, both from Pirates Ahoy! and the Ellaybe site.

Not without bitterness, I can only conclude that the people who worked on the early modpacks had a lot of words, but no works:

<!--quoteo(post=171023:date=Nov 12 2006, 02:45 AM:name=Cyberops)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Cyberops @ Nov 12 2006, 02:45 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->No worries when the toolpack is done you can do everything from within that.

Design new ships, export them to the game.
Design new Chracters and again export them into the game.
Make new missions, etc. etc.

A lot of cool things without the need of extra tools.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Cyberops were last seen april 1st, 2007 in the AOP forums.

<!--quoteo(post=170979:date=Nov 11 2006, 10:14 PM:name=AdmiralKoch)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(AdmiralKoch @ Nov 11 2006, 10:14 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->No worries about the plugins, you only need the working one.

I've talked to Duke Suraknar ages ago, he has been creating ships for the PMT, they've never released anything though. He told me that that plugin was all that was needed.

However he wasn't willing to tell me how to do the conversion <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> He's a funny guy.

The PMT is corrently working on an expansion for PotC, they've worked on it for ages now. I do ask them how far they've gotten once in a while, but it seems like they're only making little progression atm. from what I've been told they're adding new quests and ships.

But I don't expect it to be released.

You can find them here: <a href="http://www.thelib.com/yabbse/index.php#6" target="_blank">http://www.thelib.com/yabbse/index.php#6</a><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Saruknar was last seen december 1st, 2007. From 2003 where they started working on PotC and up till this day, nothing has ever been released from the PMT (Ellaybe´s PotC Modding Team)

In fact, the only guys I have seen come up with stuff from then is Nathan Kell and CouchCaptainCharles, who were/is actually working for us! Call it irony...

Have anybody _ever_ seen a western modding team come up with new shipmodels or characters that was converted to ingame PotC?

Inez Dias made the Tool for us, which is not perfect, but certainly better than not having it at all. High Sea Lass did some modifying of character models and she fixed the sitting animation for female models. Inzane made the HMS Surprise and put it ingame using Maya. Captain Augast made the Bermuda Sloop. Kazeite is doing some awesome modeling work with the imperfect tools at his disposal. Nathan Kell was the driving force for the Build modpack which obviously <i>has</i> been released and is still being worked on. CouchcaptainCharles still comes here every now and then and occasionally helps us with things.

On the other hand, we've got Cyberops who I don't think ever did much. He said he would do a lot, but as far as I know the only "real" work he did was compiling other people's mods for AoP and taking credit himself or something like that. As far as I know, Western modding on AoP is now officially dead. At least on this forum. I think the PMT modding team has even given up their work completely, but is still not willing to share any of their work.

It seems there is only two modding teams left: Us working on the PotC Build mod and the Russian SLiB team working on AoP. With the Russians clearly being more organized and more succesful, considering that they have the support of Akella and actually have their modpack released commercially. Still I'm quite pleased that four years after its release, PotC has still not died out and we're still getting new members every now and then. And progress on the modpack is also still being made, though at a rather slow pace. But eventually we'll be getting there and I do think that Pirates of the Caribbean: New Horizons (Build 14) is going to be quite awesome even if we just manage to finish the stuff we have in the works right now without starting on any completely new content.

Now if we would ever manage to actually implement some of the awesome ideas being thrown around on the forum occasionally, that is going to make our modpack truly the best pirate game ever. I sure hope it will come to that one day! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I'll quote myself too:

Sometimes some of those texture glitches are in Tool, but when you get it in the game, or GM viewer, they are OK. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Pieter, I'll take a stab at this experiment.
1. Load a stock boat, and save as vrml.
2. Load vrml and let Tool corrupt it.
3. Load the corrupted boat, save as vrml
4. Load corrupted vrml and see if tool reverses it again.

Wish me luck!

I would like to take up ship modeling. I'm very interested. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

all I need to know is wat tools do I need and if I need a certain program to run the tools. I have a crap load of free time and am willing to model ships

Sorry to say, my experiment has produced negative results.
It seemed logical that if Tool reversed lighting, then re-reversing it would produce the proper effect.

It doesn't work that way with this bug. The reversed lighting remained.

I believe it is part of irreparable data loss produced by Tool.
At first I thought that the file size was the same being 43 KB for both stock Tartane1 and the double converted version.

Closer look shows that the stock Tartane1 is 43,336 bytes, while the corrupted one is 43,317 bytes.
In the missing 19 bytes must be data which would correct lighting.

Thats what I meant, actually <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> We should not pount ourselves so hard. We have come a long way without much.
