I know some of it has been said before!
Whats the purpace of the new islands?
Besides being crappy and full of objects you walk thru,
merchants and lots of characters not there, locked shops etc,
in daytime?????
One guy asking to help him to get his crappy house fixed??

The new islands are unfinished. Pirate_KK has been doing some finishing lately and this will be added to Build 13. Also: The new islands offer much room for new quests and expanding the gameplay. At the moment they don't add that much to the game, but it will get better when people start adding new stuff to them.
 
So as I tell you the truth Nosie I didn´t find any substantial merit of these new Islands too so far. But I hope the situation could improve in the future. In my previous playing of Build 12.1 I attack and conquer the fort (I don´t exactly now what fort it was, maybe Tortuga). And in the course of that I entertained greatly. I think it could be one of the many reasons of these new islands to conquer and takes them as it is in Russian mod for example. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The new islands are only as good as the community makes them. At the moment they all look the same as the old islands. However, using the BuildingSet (walk-through buildings), some of the islands have been given a more distinctive look. And I have a retextured Santo Domingo and the AoP Tortuga and Guadeloupe towns that will be added in a future modpack update.

As far as things to do on the new islands goes: It's fun exploring some new locations, there are some small quest-things and fun locations to be found. And some of the cargo missions also take into account the new islands. But there isn't really much to do there yet. That has yet to be added.

Eventually we would want to add a mod with changing nation relations AND the ability to conquer towns. That way the new islands would add some more nice features to the game. Also if new quests are made, it would be great to let them take place on the new islands as well.

I see what you mean about the new islands being a bit useless, but at least they're there and available to be improved. If they weren't there, they could never be improved either, right?
 
I agree with you Pieter. The new islands have big potential for the future modding and playing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
 
You'd need to model it, but nobody has ever managed to make completely new locations from scratch. It might be possible, but nobody knows exactly how... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
In my recent mod I added random setting of relations at startup, but I must make it changing in time to finish that. I plan to enable capturing of the towns, but first I must finish what I'm doing now - bugfixing, adding governors and loansharks to new islands and, finally, one mod which I started some time ago but didn't make yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

I would be glad if in the close future the system of trading was completed at least on those islands and add to the trade menu of the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The purpose of new islands is to expand gameplay and enjoyment of modded POTC.

They provide the foundation on which other modders can create totally new locations.

The existing locations can provide the base on which other modders can set characters and create quests.

It is mostly potential at this point.
If one walks up to a major construction site only to find a three story hole in the ground, one might be tempted to rate the project a zero, but that would be a grossly premature assessment.

Treasure quests <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> , don't forget <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> the treasure quests that already involve <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> many if not most of the new <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> islands.

To pirate_KK,

Is it possible, in the future (Build 14), create a simplified american coastline with the cities of Vera cruz, Cartagena, Maracaïbo and Portobello...
 
No, I think the engine doesn't really like bigger landmasses going over the edge of the map...
 
I don't have experience with a worldmap as I only edited land locations. I don't know how to create island or land from the scratch, as we had to make it. I agree with Rico that land shouldn't touch the map edge. I <i>think</i> (but it's only speculation) that if we'd be able to create new lands, we could make very crude "continent" being large "island" with a couple of towns, not reaching the map edge though. It's rather a huge amount of hard work, reaching Build 15 or even Build 16 I think.

The new islands was imported from SLiB mod; I think it would be better solution (easier and less time-consuming) to import new islands from AoP instead of creating land by ourselves... But, wouldn't that be illegal?

I think we don't need to add new islands at all. There is still so much room for expansion and improvement on the current islands. There are so much more quests that could be made. I see no point in adding new islands, unless they really add something to the game. And they won't add something to the game unless a lot of work is done on them. And I think we should first do that hard work on the current new islands and not add even more.
 
You know something i love the new islands it gives me the feeling i have so much freedom sailing on 1 gigantic map
showing people to fear me of all colony's
instead of saying that the new islands suck and such you better
have some respect for the people who made them and if you think you can do better
well...

Unfortunately, it would be illegal to import new islands from AoP. If we can create a big island like Cuba and put the four cities ( cartagena etc...), it would allow more quests ( like creating a quest " help Henry Morgan 's attack on Portobello"). But i understand it's difficult to create something like that and there are another things to do before this work.
