new Black Pearl

WARNING: DEAD MAN'S CHEST MOVIE SPOILER!

if you remember, that was what the bargain was about. the pearl for 10 years, in exchange for Sparrow's immortal soul. working permanantly aboard the Flyin' Dutchman

I knew all of that, what I don't know is how Sparrow came to own the <i>Pearl</i>. Where did he git her? In a battle against a Spanish merchant... did he steal it from the Spanish Navy?

well, from her speed, we can definately tell it's not a natural ship. Davy Jones gave it to him. brought the Black Pearl from the depths, and gave it to Sparrow, in exchange for eternity as crew aboard the Flying Dutchman. as to how Jack managed to get to know Davy Jones, i'm lost there... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

To Jack Black: She looks pretty darn good with those sails! Looks much more like the first film's Pearl now. Excellent!

To Commodore John Paul Jones and Lord Nelson: See <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Sparrow" target="_blank">here</a> for the information on how Jack got the Pearl.

It's on the FTP in the "Jack Black" folder as "sail_torn_black_plain.tga.tx"
Do what ever you want with it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

i say, set them as a custom black sail, if possible, so that you can have normal black torn sails, and BP torn sails. some people may like the old ones more. personally, i can't think of why they may not like it, but it would help avoid complaints later on...
i think the sails are excellent.
could someone PM me instructions on how to...:
1:add the new black pearl.
2:add the black torn sails.
3:set the new Black Pearl as the ship you fight at the end of the main story.
...in detail please.
TIA <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Damn! I can't believe I missed Pieter's explanations...

So I finally made me some torn sails <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

would you believe i want a combination of yours and JB's sails? their both excellent. your tears are more realistic than JB's, but they lack the shredded bottom of JB's sails.

I tried your new Black Pearl, Kazeite. It is my new favorite ship! I can't wait for a walk file to go with it. Thanks for all your hard work!

Well, I'm guessing. Look at the name Hector Barbossa... sounds Spanish. Sides, the <i>Pearl</i> has a Spanish look to it. How the obviously English Jack Sparrow got it is beyond me...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Barbossa's accent is Cornish I think (not that I'm overly good at picking my country-mates' accents), and definately not Spanish, though it'd fit his name better if he were a Spaniard. Then again you can't read too much into the accents, in CBP for example Depp's Jack Sparrow goes from an attempt at an East-London accent and dialect (largely copying old Keef) to a Scottish accent (where he meets the cursed pirates in gaol and says 'Thats interesting...thats very interesting'. Standard Hollywood really not having any idea about English accents beyond toffy-nosed Eton types of the Hugh Grant model and hardcore thesps.
The backstory of both characters is better stated elsewhere as Pieter indicated, though more conjecture is available on the <a href="http://forums.keeptothecode.com//index.php" target="_blank">keep to the code</a> forums. I imagine the next films will flesh out the story of Sparrow and Barbossa considerably, unless they plan to leave to the spin off novels.

you know what would make the black pearl more realistic right now? crew that showed as skeletons at night, and normal in the day. i know it's probably impossible, but it's just an idea. anyone gonna reply to my request? it would really help me if i knew what to do.
TIA [Dalma <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ]

There ARE skeleton crew models for on the Black Pearl. They have been there since the stock game. I don't know if these models are USED though. Somebody would have to look at the Black Pearl at night. Possibly you'd need to look at her in the stock game even... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i know there's skeleton crew on the black pearl. i remember very clearly. it's wether they change to human in daylight and turn skeletal at night that's bothering me. it would be nice to have normal crew in the day, and skeletons at night.

I have had a search through the code to see if I could find the code that sets the crewmember models, but I had no luck. Apparently it is hardcoded, which means we cannot change it. Shame. I'd love to change some things with the crewmember models. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

nevermind. there's nothing we can do about it right now, so let's forget it.

also, 2 other things:

1: i have plans for an alternate main quest, kinda like the stormy start mod, but it effects the entire game. i can only plan. i don't know jacks*** about coding, modding or anything involving C+ and C++.

2: for the sails: i noticed the stock black sails have that fasing look near the end of them. adding that would probably help add to the Black Pearl's "atmosphere", if you know what i mean... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Making quests is not easy. At all. Somebody once wanted to make a quest and I tried to help him making one that is almost ridiculously simple. But he never finished that. Catalina The Pirate is the only person to ever make a new quest: The Fred Bob quest. And it took her months to do that. I can scarcely imagine how much time it'd cost to make a completely new main quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> ok then. forget i suggested that. what about random quests? how were they made?

also, could anyone make an Uber-Enemy mod? for the players that go on a naval expedition with 4 MOWs? i need to shoot something!
*where's that monkey?! i need to shoot something! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> *

Hm... I could've sworn that one of the older builds readme mentioned toggling <i>Pearl's</i> skeletal crewmen off... Must've confused it with turning skeletons off in dungeons. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Anyway, I do believe that those fellas indeed change into skeletons and night, since I distinctly remember seeing normal folks on the deck the first time <i>Pearl</i> was chasing me (which, incidentally, was the impulse for making me my own <i>Pearl</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I was like, "OMG! The <i>Black Pearl</i>! OMG! The <i>Black Pe</i>... Hey, waitaminute... I don't remember her having mast on bowsprit..." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ). Since there are skeletal models and I remember seeing normal guys, (and that was during the "day"), therefore, they must change into skeletons at night... Unless I remember wrong <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

And the answer is:

No. They don't change into skeletons at night.

It is understandable that you'd have to actually encounter <i>Black Pearl</i> at night (since the engine is incapable of reloading models without reloading entire scene), but... they appear as skeletons even when encountered at night.

(Weird thing is, when I spotted them, they were, like, friendly! They weren't even shooting at me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Well, not from the beginning <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />)
