Limiting ships to certain nations

well, i'd be for that idea. sounds like fun. on the other hand, how many times have you served the french?

Here's Morgan Terror again! "how many times have you served the French"!
Well we must admit that serving France is currently not very attractive in PotC. Falaise de Fleur is one of the most ugly town of all, and doesn't have any jungle to explore. When you start a game, in Build 13, you're automaticly hated by French authorities, even if you've chosen the French Flag as your starting colors. There aren't any card player in Falaise de Fleur tavern. Etc, etc. Trully a huge work would be necessary, if we wanted the player to like to serve France, and to actually enjoy it when they chose to do so.

now you're just seeing things the wrong way. you stated in the rest of your post exactly what i meant. there's absolutely no reason to serve them, and the main quest doesn't exactly encourage it either. however, i have served them once, and for a long time too. that's because when you finish the 'girl won in a dice game' quest, and you're not hostile with france (being very tempted to say "how would that be possible?" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ahum.) you get a french letter of marque. if you ARE hostile, you become neutral with them. however, this is exactly a quest you come across that quickly, so there would have to be more reasons to join their side.

Yes that's our same old Morgan doing his ways as usually. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
If you shoot him once, he shoots you twice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

well, he's right, in a way, as i haven't seen that french member anymore. although, your saying sums it up quite well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Haha. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

hehe, that actually wasn't how i intended it, but now i think of it, that MIGHT be the cause. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i actually meant that ASVS was right, in a way.

Well, its not all too hard to add people to the island, and perhaps Falaise de Fleur should be geared towards the military oriented type... more urban places to go with more people... a sort of "Colonial Boston". Less swashbuckling adventure in the jungle and more honorable and loyal duty for the Glorious Casue. Falaise de Fleur would be the commercial center of trade with a lot of merchant traffic, a large selection in the yards and stores, added Americans and lots of military attention like plenty of good officers in the taverns, a strong fort, great smiths to repair both guns and blades with excellent selection.

In short, if you want to become a successful navy officer... the best ships, weapons, and men are at Falaise de Fleur! Only drawback is you have to choose between playing as an American or a Frenchman.

are you sure that would work? there are a lot of quests on FDF, but that doesn't really motivate you to join the french.

Would be nice to add the American in there at some point. I noticed that it is possibly to set the worldmap ship model for a certain nation, so it might indeed be possible to add the US as a seperate nation to the game and even have US ships sailing on the worldmap. Worth experimenting with, I suppose. But I already have plenty of other things to do, so I'll leave that up to somebody else.

I would add other nations instead. Like Denmark and then those pesky colonial americans <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

But if we do add americans we should only let them join on the worldmap after a certain time, in the 1600 there was no US.

First we'd need to find out IF it would work. Then it would be pretty cool if we could add some toggles on it or even make them appear only after a certain date.

US and France - Allies (Wary from 1797-1800 because of the XYZ Affair and the Quasi War)
US and Spain - Nuteral
US and Portugal - Nuteral
US and Holland - Allies
US and England - Wary or Enemies (Depends on year)
US and Pirates - Enemies

I would say we don't see Colonials until about 1760, then they become Americans in 1776. (If we can even pinpoint it to a day of the year, then July 4th, 1776.)

In the beginning, everyone that is an enemy of England is wary of the colonials for obvious reasons... they're English colonies! But when you get to 1770, everyone, France in particular, grow to nuteral because the colonials speak openly of a revolution. When the Battle of Saratoga is won in 1777, France signs on as an ally.

Right now all the nation relations in Build 14 are random and not scripted events.

I meant the CHANGING of the nation relations in Build 14. Of course there's a toggle on that as well.

Has anybody tried to put the flags from the Russian mods onto our ships? I put them all on there, but for some reason the flag doesn't appear on the Lineships anymore. I know they used to before, but not anymore. It's beginning to greatly annoy me; I have NO idea why they won't show on the Lineship, but have no problem on any of the other ships. ARGH! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
