Kraken Tentacles and Plane of Sand

Nice! I like I like!

<!--quoteo(post=318046:date=May 7 2009, 10:40 AM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pieter Boelen @ May 7 2009, 10:40 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=318046"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->3. Kraken tentacle models; no need modeling the whole Kraken, just some tentacles.
They are to be used as floating goods and will be generated around ships subject to a Kraken attack.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=13244&view=findpost&p=320409" target="_blank">The code for this is done now</a>.
All we need now is some actual tentacle models to make this look... NOT stupid. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Add a Kraken-nation and set the Kraken nation ship model to look like a Kraken. Set the Kraken nation to be hostile to everyone.
Go into 3D sailing mode near a Kraken nation and see... a bunch of enemy ships with a Kraken on their flag! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

I don't think we're decided yet on whether there should be any random Kraken attacks. For now, I'll be happy if we can get the movie scene done.
And for that I need... I repeat... SOME SIMPLE MODELS OF KRAKEN TENTACLES! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

I'll just bump this one again. I'm not asking THAT much here, am I...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

So we have a Kraken attack function now, but it uses non-animated floating goods that need to be replaced with non-animated tentacles.
Does anyone have any thoughts on any not-too-hard-way in which we might put in an animated Kraken that:
a. We can control to sail around a ship?
b. Can do damage to that ship?

I'm just bumping this one. Again. I'm NOT asking much here; SERIOUSLY. But I DO need those two models:
1. Big round plane of sand
2. Kraken tentacles (static)

PLEASE OH PLEASE! The kraken attack is working so well but we do need the tentacles to make it look realistic (at the moment your ship randomally explodes, takes damage and has stuff flying everywhere)

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> ,

OK...I'll do some tentacles.
As for the plane of sand ,it'll need a walk patch,I presume, and a Black pearl model in the middle,..... if I'm getting your plan Pieter?

I'm just intending to use them as floating goods, so no animation needed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=335243:date=Jul 5 2009, 02:59 PM:name=damski62)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (damski62 @ Jul 5 2009, 02:59 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=335243"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->As for the plane of sand ,it'll need a walk patch,I presume, and a Black pearl model in the middle,..... if I'm getting your plan Pieter?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Actually I was planning on just using a black ship deck location and replace the sea with a plane of sand.
That'd be as easy as humanly possible and then we can stage some scenes (eg. a "fight" with multiple Jacks) there without requiring a walk patch at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Using the Patch generator <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> ....

Export the walk file (i.e. copy the terrain and edit it to where you want to walk and where the buildings are),as a gm......put that in a 'C\Work' folder>put patch generator in there too >run the generator as per instructions given with it in the help files and up pops the walk patch.Same goes for the Grass Generator.I have created the files anyway...it's not hard.

Yes we could use the actual Black Pearl model for the scene.

...........

Pieter, you beat me too it.....well we could cut the Pearl down and use it's deck. That'd give us the proper Pearl deck full stop.

nice. I shall try (we can use this for all decks then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />) But I can't export .gm files, even though the Seadogs2 plugins are installed.

I'd think we should use the same deck model that the Pearl uses in other Pearl deck scenes as well.
So that would be "ShipDeck6"; soon I will add SuperDurnius' black reskin of that for the Black Pearl too.

On the other hand, if you think that the real Black Pearl deck model is detailed enough,
we could use that in ALL Black Pearl deck scenes if you can convert that to location model. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Well, if Damski manages option 2, I'll be the last to complain. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
But I think he's got a lot of other WIP projects too, which I think would be more important... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
So for now I'd be happy with just a plane of sand without walk patch and we can use a black ShipDeck6 for the Pearl for the time being.

Your model has to be parented to a (Geometry locator:-character),(waterline locator:-ships),(start\end:-weapons),Locations are'nt as easy as that though.

Select export as..box>options>then SD2 Geo export and tick the build BSP and product boxes then export.
.....................
We can convert the ship to a deck scene, but maybe we might as well go for it and create the full ship scene\location as well...time permitting.

That is the problem. Export, I haven't got an option to use SD Geo export. Just maya ... maya ... and some other things I don't understand :p

Oh...in that case instaling the plugins seems to have two options for where.I don't know which is correct so put the plug-ins in both and it will work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

The options are:-
drive?\Program Files\AliasWavefront\bin\plug-ins
drive?\Program Files\AliasWavefront\Maya5.0\bin\plug-ins

I hope that sorts you out Thomas.

Good luck then; take your time. We're happy with anything you can get done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
