I gotta say... I really don't like this addition to the Build Mod. Sorry, I know a lot of time must have went into it, but... nope, I just don't like it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

I can't tell any ship apart from any other ship. The only way I see some sort of difference, is to zoom way in and try to catch a glimpse of the side of the ship from under those massive chunks of cardboard that are now the sails. This is compounded to even more difficulty by how fast everything is going on the world map... too fast to ponder any sort of action. Doing so leaves you a week behind schedule!

Honestly, I see no reason why these ships HAD to be changed, nor why there is no toggle to go back to the prior better ships. The old way, you could clearly see pirate ships, and even the regular ships flew their proper flag on top (visible even!). I found the prior models to be very nice looking, and sporty (they tilted around a lot as they turned and was quite fun to watch). Not like they look now, a chunk of carved wood with a few scraps of paper tacked on top for sails.

Sorry... but that is just how I feel about them. I don't want to upset anyone, but feedback can help people sometimes? Right?

Wasn't sure where else to put user feedback on mods already put into the Build Mod... so I put it here in general. Move it if it needs to move.

The ship models might need some improving. I do like having the ships look like real ships instead of toy ships, but having the flags added to their sails would be nice as well. Maybe I can figure out something to have the best of both worlds. Anyway: This mod can not be made toggleable (we tried), but I will make it an additional download for Build 13, so you won't have it in there by default.

That could be cool.

Sucks about the toggle thing. One of those evils in the game engine I presume... no aliases etc.

The toy boats were fun, gave the world map a sort of 'map on the table' feel.

Is there a file anywhere to get rid of the toy boats? Seems like I saw somesuch, but can't remember where, and a search comes up with zilch...

The worldmap ship models mod is available from my site and will replace the toy ships. I have been working on making an improved version of that mod, but it's far from finished. In my version, I'll be making it obvious to which nation the ships belong by adding emblemed sails and/or flags at the stern.

maybe replace them with the ships of AOP.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That would be great, but I don't know how. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Hopefully someone who isn't mod challenged can do it...

I am going to do something similar, but not with AoP ships. using AoP ships will be just as much work, but they have more polygons, so the game would run less smooth. Not to mention any copyright issues. So I'll be using Build 13 ships instead.

Awesome! I'll be looking forward to that one... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Find a screenshot of my WIP in <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=6643&view=findpost&p=158949" target="_blank">this</a> thread. I have not done anything since then, but I might get back to it tomorrow or next week; I'd like to have some better mapships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

AHOY <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I know that this is an old thread but I have to give props to the modder and his ship models. I thought that the remoddeled ships were great and added much more realism to the game. You could easily tell a fleets Nationality by its ship type on the world map. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I just downloaded build 13 and laughed when I saw the silly toy ships that are being used. And then I cried when I couldnt change them in the buildsettings.

Is there any way that the build could allow the player to choose his ship model? Also will the ship model download work with the alpha?

CHEERS!!!

is it somehow possible to use the ships from tortuga: pirates of the new world/pirate hunter? they look great! the world map looks really similar as well.

If you have the game, you could try looking at the model format used in the game, and someone could start from there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

i have the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> cruddy repetetive game, but still. i'll see if i can somehow with pure sheer luck find them as i have no idea where to look. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Yes, I couldn't find it either - and I looked in InternalSettings.h too... Any reason for that?

If you want to replace the toyships you can download the "Mapships" pack from Pieter's page.

Unzip them into your PotC folder (doesn't matter which version) and the toyship modelfiles will be replaced.

HTH

we, or at least i, know that. what i want to do is make them even better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That shouldn't be to difficult, as I "modeled" them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
