Hi all. I started to play Build 14 7plus and I have some questions. I reduced my crew to 10 men and in buildsettings.h I changed multiplayer of salary from 3 to 1 but I had to pay my little crew above 4000 gold and it ruins me quite substantially as I am at the beginning of the game. As though game wouldn´t react at it.

I turned off the need for foot and rum but crew still demands it. Why?

I don´t have any compas at the sea which I liked. Why? Only some blue one in the left down corner but I do´t know for what purpose it is.

There isn´t any manual improving of my skills? I can assign my abilities but what about my skills?
 
well, the compass you can change to the old look. Open the Main Menu, then click in the Options and then in the Sailing Mode. You will see something about the compass and all below the Arcade/Realistic Sailing Mode.

Im not one to change things in the ini files, so i dont have idea how to help you with the crew's salary thing. If you want an advice to start well, go pick some items in the houses and sell them. The house keepers will try to kill you since you are robbering them, but it is good to gain experience and rise your level and skills. To change your skills, you must have the character selected and then press the "Down" button. The Leadership bar will shine and then you can rise your skills in leadership, the same goes to the other skills. It is crappy cuz you cant change the skills by clicking, because you have to press spacebar and whichever bar is shinning will be opened, instead of the skill bar.

I have some another question. I received the trade trip to deliver cargo from Conceicao to Oxbay. The Oxbay was captured by Frenchmen. So, I exchange my flag to French and thought I will anchor comfortably in Oxbay port. But Frenchmen shoot at me and sink me every time while I sail under the French flag. Why? And the second issue is when I exchange my flag from English to French my reputation decreases from Bloke to Rascal. Why? The flag problem means the French are hostile toward you enough that flying their flag won't make them friendly towards you. You need to find a diplomat and pay him (an idiotic amount) to restore your relations with the French - there's one of them in the Quebradas Costillas tavern  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The second problem, I'm assuming, is that your actions are somehow seen as pirate-like  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Not really sure on that one, though.

A sure way around those problems is to right your relationship with all the nations, then fly the flag of Portugal - everyone, except the pirates, likes them.  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
There are so many basic failures in this Build that I am compelled to stop my playing. There are some useless options that only do the Build and all the game too much convoluted and not working properly and on the other hand the basic matters don´t work properly neither as delivering goods from isle to isle for some traders. What´s a stupid idea for automatic assign the skills according to activities that hero does. If you start the game you are very poor in cannons´ handling. So, you do some trading and you use received skills for improving cannons´ handling. Only after your cannons´ handling is better only then you start the sea battles. So, by the scheme of automatic increasing of skills if you don´t use your cannons in the beginning of the game which is normal and natural thing, so, how can your cannons´ handling improve in the mode of automatic skills´ improving ? It´s completely illogical and out. There is a lot of nice things as inteface, added music from Sea Dog and several another, but playbility of the game is quite poor now. I am sorry for my criticism again but I couldn´t help myself. Several times I tried to deliver cargo for some traders but it doesn´t work properly in many cases and when I add to that the mindeless paying for my 10 sailors about 4000 gold even when I decreased the multiplayer for paying from 3 to 1 and unfounded and nonsensical decreasing of my reputation in one moment from Bloke to Rascal I think I will return to Sea Dogs. Maybe sometimes in the future I will be having the fortune to play some properly functioning version of the Build but I doubt that I will be living at this time yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Sometimes your "false" flag (because you changed it) is detected by the enemy.
The game is programmed to not always allow you to get by easily!

Hi Jack my friend. The problem with delivering goods and nonsensical decreasing of reputation persists very long time and nothing was corrected from that time. I would so much like to play this game but I am afraid I won´t be able. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
How about downgrading to an earlier version of the Build, such as 13 Final or 14 Alpha 6 Update 2?
 
Hi Rad,
Build 14alpha6 update 2 is a lot more stable and in keeping with Build 13.ud 3 / full ....Build14alpha 7 never did work too good at all.
Build 13 ud3 / full is pretty good all round with the odd fix added ..... virtualy bug free. Thats the one I tend to stick with.

Maybe I could try this previous version Build 14 update 2. And I would like to ask once more what is the difference between Build 13 full and Build 13 update 3 full ?

The original release of Build 13 was Build 13 Full.
Update 3 was released later as a fix to be installed on top of Build 13 Full.
Build 13 Final includes the files of Build 13 Full AND Update 3 for easier installation.
The Pre Build 13 Base Version was an old version made during the development of Build 13.
By installing Build 13 Update 3 Full on top of the Pre Build 13 Base Version, you get the same result as installing Build 13 Final or Build 13 Full + Update 3.
 
If you want a stable game i guess Build 13 Final is very good so far. And if you pay someone to teach you something, it is quite logical that your skills will increase. It is not so unlogical.
 
And to help increase your reputation - ship some ships, THEN rescue the survivors floating in the water. (The more the better).
Do this a few times and your reputation will increase quickly.

Thanks Jack for you explanation. Maybe I will try Build 13. But I suppose there isn´t any your moding in this Build yet which is a pity or am I wrong?

You are correct - the bits I did are in 14.7 and up. Currently I am working on 14.8 Alpha 2 which allows the player to choose which game he/she wants to play, (Hornblower, Jack Sparrow, Blaze or the original story line), and each story is very different from the other.

So, I play Build 13 final now. I have some more question. Is there any onboard fights at all ? I didn´t meet any so far. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

what do you mean by that?

you mean fights in YOUR ship or just fights that happen when you board a ship?

because as far as i know, there is almost always fights when you board. The only exceptions are when the ship you are boarding had struck her colors (before and/or during the boarding)
 
Andyintore Falcus is correct.

When you have a sea battle, it you hit the enemy with cannon till she surrenders then no fight. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

However, if you board her early in the fight, then you will have to fight your way to the captain's cabin, and depending on how big the ship is, that could be over several decks. (when/if you kill all the enemy on deck one, then the space key will take you to the next deck, or the captain's cabin, according to level) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />
You can loose the fights, and usually at least one of your officers.
