Help my save keeps crashing

L0M3N

Sailor
Three different islands I tried I crash after selling contraband and getting caught by soldiers.
They appear and run at me and I just ignore them and run back to my dinghy.
It crashes every time during the loading screen for going back to Sea.
I don't know why this is happening.
I was selling contraband all over the archipelago for about 2 hours and it was just fine.
Now I crash every time.
Please help.

No ideer. I don't smuggle because it hardly ever works for me. Maybe a smuggler could help you.

Which islands are causing the crashes?

Do you have any error logs?

Check this post - item # 5 for how to set up error logging --->> http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php/topic/14915-build-mod-and-forum-faq/page__view__findpost__p__352879

Try smuggling & when game crashes look in your Pirates of the Caribbean folder for the error logs ( error - compile - system ) and post them as attachments here.

They might give a clue as to what is causing the game to crash. :mm

:drunk

while trying to get the logs I actually smuggled successfully without coast guard showing up....
and no crash. So I think it is related to coast guard showing up.
Also why the hell do they catch me smuggling 19 out of 20 times?
I know it's probably based on luck but they shouldn't catch me every time.

but i've done that many times...
why would it start crashing
on my 10th(approximation) time doing it?

location, maybe. better try killing the coastguard anyway.

it's probably because you've tried it in that location before.

Will killing the guards make the nation mad?
I avoided doing so because I smuggle on jamaica and cayman a lot.

If you have vista or 7, run the game in compatibility mode for XP and see if that helps, it solved a couple of my other problems, it's worth a try.

Also, be sure you're running the game as an administrator so that the game can make ANY changes it has to. :yes

this a programming problem. if he tried running from the guards in that location before, some triggers from the previous group of gaurds might still be there, causing a CTD. since it only happens once he goes to sea, i'd say it has to do with the ships that are usually spawned. or it's just a random act of game-hate.

I fought them and it still crashed. Apparently the first time screwed me over.
Here is a better question.
How am I supposed to fight all those soldiers by myself?
It took me like 10 potions and running circles around the beach.
I think the chance of being caught should be made lower.
At 1 luck you literally get caught every single time which is unrealistic...

I liked running off before the soldiers got to me.
Then all I had to do was outrun their ships.
I mean would anyone actually wait for the soldiers to run up and talk
to them?
Also if I'm not mistaken this crash never happened on Patch 5.
I had tons of money all from capturing merchant ships
and smuggling the loot.

even so, getting caught every time is neither realistic or fun. And when my luck is low so is my ability to fight the soldiers.
And I can't run away because of crash...

isn't there a factor or something in one of the files that controls how often you get caught smuggling at ANY luck level?:shrug

from the compile .log you posted above - it looks like the problem is with the spawning of the Coastguard ships - but how to fix it I don't know :shrug

Have you tried talking to the soldiers - if you choose the correct option in the dialog they let you go and you can watch them fight the smugglers ( coastguard ships should not be spawned in this case).

Or if you save just before talking to the smugglers - then if the soldiers appear or the coastguard ships cause a CTD you can go back to this save.

If you use a save just before before talking to the smugglers - then after a couple of times the soldiers ( and coastguard ships ) will not appear and you can deal with the smugglers without being interupted.
