Have a full map for my sister, but still cannot find her

Well, I wanted to see if the original poster wanted us to tell him, or if he wanted to look again, now knowing that she is there..

<!--`QuoteBegin-Otaku_Hanzo`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Otaku_Hanzo)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Ah well, just another fine bug we've run into is all. I basically looked at the lay of the land on the map and the location they stated at the bottom of the map. Put two and two together and managed to find it pretty easily. I'm having a similar problem with a Lost Incan City map, so guess I need to pay more attention to the lay of the land and hope I can find it.[/quote]

Yes, thats what I do anyway. I found the sister in about 5 minutes after starting the save game. I also always climb a mountain or hill if there is one nearby, because you can see further from to top. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Wow, well done guys!! How did you manage to do it!

Please let me know how to find her. I've long since accepted that I'm not going to manage to do so by myself...... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

OK, I've done it also....

I just replaced the rock with Cumana in my mind. I just assumed that if it that near Cumana, Cumana would have been on the map.

*sigh*

Ah well......

We can add this one to the list of bugs for the patch (I am assuming they will release one)

Maybe it's not a bug, and the maps just aren't always 100% accurate, and are intended to be that way? For one thing, back in the time period the game is set, `no-one` was able to get the ariel view you get in Pirates! Also, it's possible that lankmarks might be erased in the time between the original drawing of the map and you searching for it?

Yes although I doub that, sure it's called live the life. But you don't get much choices to make, you don't ever kill anyone, your a really goody ass pirate. You can't really say anything different that will affect the game. (More choices when speaking to someone like insulting him etc...) So it all isn't too realistic so why would the maps be realistic then.

It's not a matter of realism, it's a matter of slightly increased challenge and basic orienteering skills. I managed to find my uncle, for example, despite only having two pieces of his map. I had enough to discern the location of a few of the locations marked on the map from the shape of the coast and his huts general direction from them.

Of course, it COULD be a bug, but the fact that it was possible to locate the sister implies that the quest WAS working.

Well, as you go up in difficulty, the maps do become more and more elusive. The lay of the land is the best way to go, really. I sailed straight to Cumana and looked at the shore. Saw land that looked totally like what was in the map and landed. Found the sister within minutes after that. I do think it's a bug, but nothing gamekilling. Just that when your world map got generated at the start of the game, it messed up and threw a landmark where something already was and therefore the landmark didn't exist anymore, but the game still registered it as being there.

Who knows? Either way, just stick with the vicinity they give you and look at the shape of the land around. Also, as GIJoe pointed out, hills are an invaluable asset in surveillance.

My friend was all like "This spyglass is useless!" last night until I showed her that by putting down just below the halfway point on the screen, you can see under trees and alot further around you. She changed her mind pretty fast after that.

Yes, I'm going to have to practice a little more with that spyglass. I do use it when I am on land, but I do not get that much benefit from it atm.

As for using it at sea, well I reckon its less than useless for that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

You can use the spyglass while treasure hunting? Didn't know that. Thanks matey! That should make my spells on dry land all the shorter! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I usually just use the compass and strike out in the general direction of a landmark and hope I get lucky. If you can find one landmark, I finds you can usually navigate your way from one to the next till you eventually find the macguffin yer after.

Keypad 9 activates your spyglass on land and the S key activates it when sailing around. I don't use it when sailing though because everytime I do, the game slows down ALOT. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Luminous: Just hold the spyglass about even with your men on screen but slightly above them. You can see alot further and under trees as I pointed out earlier. Makes life alot easier.

I'm starting to like the spyglass now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Although it is far too slow to use at sea, unless of course you are suffering from one of those rare moments when all the ships are moving too quick. Sure you can lower your sails, but I find this more effective.

One more little question...... What's with the compass when you are on land. It has a very strange idea of what north is. Basically I find it pretty useless. One tactic that I have used is to note the direction of the wind just before landing. That should (hopefully) stay the same while you are on land, as long as you are quick enough.

A proper compass would be really really great.....note to anyone from the developer reading this <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

While you are on your ship, the compass (the little red arrow inside) does not show what direction you are travelling. It shows the direction the WIND is blowing. So you may be going South but the compass is pointing North. It always points north in ship mode.

However, when you actually land on shore, the compass functions properly and will display the direction you are facing.

Also, when on land, the SMALL pointer is the direction, not the larger pointer. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Hi everybody! I'm new and Im getting really mad about finding my sister! I've got the full map but I cannot find any landscape to take as a reference. Can you help me GiJoe or any other kind soul!? Im about to smash my PC... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Looks like the mystery was solved, but I wanted to pitch in a couple points. If a landmark is missing, it's entirely likely that a town or village has been placed over top of it. The landmark really is there, but the town covers it.

Second, I've had a map with a landmark there, near Cumana, and have learned first hand that the location on your map of "Knife Rock" is indeed where Cumana sits.
