Mod Release Gentelmen of Fortune! v1.2 Full Release Patch 1.0 FAQ/Bugs/Installing

Nope... something's fishy in here...
part of the problem might be your onboard graphics card. Maybe the mod changed the textures, or touched the effects, and its the effects that cause you to grind to a halt.

nighttime sailing = fps loss: can you take a look at the sky, move around the camera, maybe you find that at certain angles, things is okay... or at least less bad? maybe its when looking at the horizon that the problem creeps up, or maybe near an island only...?

there are no effects in nighttime sailing.... so that makes the situation worse. to my understanding.

*puzzled*

Your problem is most likely that Intel graphics. In POTC a fix is needed or it usually crashes, but sometimes it works ok in COAS.
Have you tried Swiftshader yet? That might or might not help. What we really need is someone who understands COAS code to adapt the POTC fixes to COAS. Amplificar's work has mostly fixed the Intel graphics problem there.

Not only have I not tried Swiftshader, I actually haven't a clue what that is, so I'll have to look it up and things and stuff. Many thanks for the suggestion. Maybe it's the smoke effects added in GoF - it's the only explanation I have. Bigger guns give off more smoke in the game, if I remember correctly, so maybe that's why there's trouble with the heavy ships. That still would leave me at a loss as to why the game behaves this oddly when dropping in during the night. Anyway, let's see what this Swiftshader thing does.

Yep, the way i understand things
more guns, smoke = less FPS --> good explanation. (not happy, but problem at least understood)
no gunfire at night = less FPS --> problem not understood, bad.

or is itz the way that the game "shades" the ships at night?

That's what I thought initially. But then again, if I start a battle during daytime and it happens to drag on through the night, there are no problems of this sort... It's really weird.

I have seen this problem before. I had it on an old HP pavilion laptop I bought in 06. First machine I played POTC and AOP1 on. I had a different handle on the forums back then and was just a lurker really. I ended up giving that machine to my son for schoolwork when I got a better one. My workaround was kind of goofey, but feel free to try it. The weather backgrounds change by day and by hour. You get a whole new set of plates at noon and at midnight. Its the changeovers of these backgrounds that's crashing your machine.

When you are in one of these long battles you talked about and you are afraid of a crash, watch your clock.

Do not board close to the top of the hour. When it is getting close, go into your cabin and let time pass until the top of the hour is over.

Example: It is 22:55. Go below and wait until it's 23:05 before you go back on deck. Quirky I know, but it worked for me on that anemic laptop.

Also needless to say - keep saving often. That is the key to happiness in this game if something goes wrong. I am like Gustav. I don't like to go back unless I have to. I let the game unfold naturally and take the lumps.

can somebody help me i installed GOF once before but it stayed the ORIGINAL GAME without any mods in place but how do i get it to just be GOF i followed the instructions Luke gave me but it didn't work if was still the original COAS by the the thanks for all your help for other problems but i would like GOF but when i did that it didn't work it strayed the fresh copy thanks again for the help

So, you had all those other problems after you installed GOF? But you never actually got GOF installed? Which is it mate? You are done trolling with this account.

Ok, I tried Swiftshader, but there's something decidedly strange about it. If I understood correctly, I was to copy the Swiftshader dll files into the game's dir. When I do so, the game crashes upon startup ("Egine has stopped working" error message). I deleted one of the dlls, namely d3d8.dll, which avoids the startup crash, but on the other hand, this has no effect on the game's performance, with me still experiencing the accustomed, horrible lag during heavy-gun battles. Am I doing something completely wrong or does Swiftshader only work in some instances, not in others?

As always, many thanks for your help.

It will take a COAS specialist to help you any more. Swiftshader helps Intel machines in POTC. If it is not helping you in GOF, then your problem is deeper than what Swiftshader does.

Damn. And there I was hoping I did something wrong. Worst thing about it is, after a taste of GoF awesomeness, vanilla seems so awfully dull, I don't think I can go back there either... Anyway, thank you for your patience and have fun with the game.

Just looked at your specs. - Amilo Li 3910, with a 2.2 GHz dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM and an Intel GMA 4500 M Graphics controller, running a 32 bit Windows 7 OS.

That should be more than sufficient, but we've run into a lot of quirky issues with different machines/set-ups. I still think you should try the trick I told you as a work around and see if it works to get you through the battle.

Sometimes hertz rates and resolution can give you problems in this area. What screen size are you using? What do you have the game screen settings at? What res? What FPS/hertz rate on card and on screen? If its high, I might dial it down a little. Also I have seen problems with people having their vid card set to a different FPS refresh than their screen - sometimes one that the screen is incapable of supporting. You would think that it wouldn't allow that - the supporting software would know better- but I've seen it first hand.

Sometimes with the Intel and NVIDIA 32 bit applications, they want you to select a game profile from a list of options. None of our favorite pirate games are in those lists. I have found that selecting Medieval Total War II works good in those profiles to support COAS game play.

Experiment with these settings. This can sometimes resolve these types of issues.

Hey

mediafire.com is blocked here at the place i reside, Beta patch cannot be downloaded. Can you please provide mirror links?(moddb and the likes...) Thanks.

Edited: Managed to get the file through proxy servers.

Yeah it is a mis-labeled texture. I fixed it and will release when we do up another patch - if we do.... MK

I suspect that those links went to the FTP and it no longer exists. We are no longer supporting GOF 1.2 as it was unstable and known to have more bugs than any other GOF mod.

You can still DL GOF 1.1 (very stable) at MODDB here:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/city-of-abandoned-ships-combined-mods/downloads/gentlemen-of-fortune-v11

or GOF 2.0 beta (not currently supported either) here: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/gentlemen-of-fortune-2-0-beta.19345/

MK
Thank you for your kind respond but I have a question

Is this the only thing http://www.moddb.com/mods/city-of-abandoned-ships-combined-mods/downloads/gentlemen-of-fortune-v11 that I will download?

no more?

Install the main file Age of Pirates then install this?
