it sure sais so on your site. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> look at the items list.

Ah. I remember again: These WERE in the game at some point, but Jack Rackham removed them when he simplified his ammomod.

all those months of searching. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Jack's Compass: Maximus is working on adding an Isla de Muerte to the game, so it might be usefull to have a compass that points to Isla de Muerte, otherwise you can't find it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'd guess this doesn't have to look like Jack's compass right?
I say this because unlike that one that points to your hearts desire, this one will only point to Isla de Muerte.

Might give it a crack in my spare time <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

:: give me skinning over coding any day ::

well, i have noticed jack's compass as an icon in the main directory. maybe you can enlarge that.

I was thinking of the same, Morgan Terror. I can probably hyjack that image.

It would be rather complicated, if not impossible, to make the compass point to your heart's desire, so I think we should keep it as pointing to Isla de Muerte in the game. My idea is that if you have the compass, you can find and access Isla de Muerte and if you don't, there simply is no Isla de Muerte. We already have code that created/removes Isla de Muerte without starting a new game, so this should be pretty possible.

To Petros: If you could make a compass, that would be most welcome.

i have noticed however, that jack's compass has a lid, and the icon doesn't. but that's not so very impostant. it would be funny if the compass would go nuts when you are on the pearl. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> it would give the player a certain time limit.

by the way: is the aztec coin bug fixed yet?

We are talking about just an icon and not a gm model right?

I ask about it not having to look like Jack's in that then it could incorporate Aztec images or skull/bones as it only points to Isla de Muerte.

No. I had started on fixing it, but I first need to find a treasure for that and I have been unable to find any yet. But that is partly because I have been busy with other things.

Yep. Just a texture.

Oooh. Petros' creative juices start flowing again! Sounds nice to me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

i think that having jack's compass would be more fun.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Perhaps we can add both into the game? Each with different purposes? So Petros' version could enable Isla de Muerte and Jack's compass can be used for something else.

like? making the player nuts because he thinks that it points north? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Pieter
I just sent to your hotmail addy my "itemsPetros.tga.tx" file that includes my concept of a Jack Sparrow, "Isla de Muerte Only" compass.

Thanks Petros. I got it and I'll check it out when I get back home. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

why not add Petros' compass, or something else with that theme, as an object to activate Isla de Muerte, and have Jack's Compass to actually show you where to go? like for example, we always know where Khael Roa is, but cant go to shore on the island until the end of the game. i suggest we use Jack's Compass as a kind of key to go ashore, and Petros' to actually show you where it is on the map. we could also have it so that when you have Jack's compass, you can sail there with the realistic sail mod, in 3d mode, rather than on the map. or maybe make 2, and give one to Barbossa on the Black Pearl, and one to you if you choose Jack Sparrow...

Wouldn't that be odd and annoying to the player to have two items with the same basic purpose? I was thinking of letting Jack's compass do something entirely different. Something to "simulate" pointing to the thing you want most. Not sure what that would be... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

just an idea: the location of the treasure you are hunting? would be especially handy with the one with the trap door to the cave.

That would indeed by incredibly useful. Not sure how to code that in though. Having an onscreen compass in 3D walking-around mode seems hard if not impossible. Maybe some button that you can press and then a message appears on screen: "Two steps to the right and three forward". Would be quite funny, actually. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Not sure if what I say above would be possible. You'd need to define the player's x,y,z coordinates and the x,y,z for the treasure locator. Then calculate a distance and bearing out of that and convert that into steps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

would be funny to see something like 1456.2 steps backwards. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> try counting that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I added all the new items into my game and they seem to work. Although I have not found any of the items for sale at vendors yet. Please give your comments on the item descriptions I wrote up and give me your suggestions.

<b>Weird-looking Compass</b>
Strangely enough, this compass looks like it was made by Aztecs.
The Aztecs are well-known for their gold, religion and amazing temples.
They are, however, not considered great sailors.
This compass makes it clear why:
It doesn't point North, making it pretty useless for navigation.

<b>Microscope</b>
Microscopes are used to see things that are too small too see with the naked eye. It is used frequently by doctors and scientists. Although the microscope is pretty much useless for a captain, the crew will think a captain with a microscope to be smarter than a captain without a microscope.

<b>Compass</b>
This is a simple compass that points North. It is a valuable aid in navigation.

<b>Scaless</b>
Scales are frequently used by traders. They help in weighing items and goods that are traded. It is useful for improving your own trading skills.

<b>Sextant</b>
A sextant is a measuring instrument generally used to measure the angle of elevation of a celestial object above the horizon. It is an extremely useful item for navigators to determine the position of their ship.

<b>Doctor's Toolkit</b>
By using a doctor's toolkit, you can try to save injured crewmembers from dying after a sea battle. This will decrease the battle casualities.

in that case mate, you sail there! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

it really would by good. better still, let Jack's Compass lead to the Black Pearl, and have Barbossa's compass lead to Isla de Muerte.

though, as is obvious above, a feature like a treasure finding compass would be incredibly useful.....

wow....i like the descriptions. the normal compass improves your navigation skills, right? nothing else?

i like these new items already.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
