Gameplay Questions

After spending the last week playing AoP, I have a few questions for which I'm having difficulty finding answers.

1. What is the best process for obtaining a letter of marque? If it's doing the governor missions, approximately how many does one have to complete before the governor will give you one?

2. Is it possible to assign officers (not captains) to other ships in your squadron? In other words, can I assign Bosuns, Cannoneers, etc. to other ships in my squadron besides my own? If so, how?

3. I have been unable to complete the governor mission of ending the smuggling problem. I've roamed the jungles to the point where I've gotten lost. I've spoken to the townspeople and entered every house I could. I've spoken to the smuggler in the tavern and arranged to meet them. However, sailing to their location takes longer than the 2-day time limit. Is the correct method to speak to the smuggler, arrange to meet them, then run to their location through the jungle? If not, how does one complete this mission?

I think that's it for now. Thanks again in advance for any assistance. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

1. I wouldn't know the best process since I haven't gotten a letter of marque and I've been doing governor quests whenever I get the chance for the Dutch (Im rank 8 now).

2. I don't think its possible to assign individual officers to the other ships in your squadron.

3. Speaking to the smuggler in the tavern and arranging a meeting is the correct way of completing this quest. I would then get in my ship and use the "Sail to..." button and sail to the coast that they want to meet at.

1. You can get a privateer patent either by completing several missions for a single governor, or you can buy one from a diplomant in a pirate tavern.

2. No.

That helps a lot! Thank you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A few questions, newbie questiosn that is.

I've never been bothered about quests in the past i had enough fun attacking pirates and selling any ships i captured and making my furtunes been a pirate but only preying on pirates. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Anyway i'm now starting to look at quests and came across a few problems so here's those questiosns.

1. If i buy a privateer badge does that mean i can capture a town for myself or the nation i own a privateer badge for?

2. Is it possible to hold a privateer badge for each nation at the sametime?

3. what benifits does a privateer badge offer you?

1. No, for that you'll have to do the governor-general and/or pirate missions, the ability to capture towns is some kind of reward in those that I haven't yet achieved.
2. No. A privateer is basically a mercenary, can't exactly be in the armed forces of several countries at once, can you.
3. It unlocks the governor-general missions for that nation and supposedly also allows you to attack your enemies' ships without decreasing your officers' loyalty.

Oh, well i blew 250,000 a time on each of the privateer badges for each nation, an expensive lesson well i better go and buy a badge for the English nation since thats the one i want to complete.

Once i'm given the ability to capture a town do i have the ability to capture more than one town?

yes you can capture more than 1 town.then you can assign any of your officers to be the deputy of that town so that he can collect taxes daily...though im not sure if there are other options aside from taxes.i hope we can upgrade our towns or something like that

Ah, this is most confusing... from the various posts around about that - did I get this right then?

1) You can only do one of the four nation's quest lines in a single game. As soon as you start one, the other three become locked down permanently.

2) You can choose which nation you want to serve by obtaining some nation's privateer license (buy from diplomat or work for same minor governor repeatedly).

3) You can not start some nation quest line if you already have started the Pirate quest line - up to one point when Admiral Morgan specifically says you may work for others now for a while.

4) You can start and finish some nation's quest line before working the Pirate quest line.

5) You can start and finish some nation's quest's line after working the Pirate quest line.

6) You can start the Pirate quest line after finishing some nation's quest line.

Please correct what is wrong here!

2. Yes. You can, however, change your mind if you haven't actually started doing missions yet. Getting a patent does not lock down the other quest lines, accepting the first mission does (tested this with an English patent, then exchanged it for a French one and was still allowed to start the GG quest line). As for why would you want a patent if you're not going to do missions, having one supposedly changes the way reputation and loyalties are affected when you capture ships, although I haven't noticed any difference myself.

I have laid off capturing/looting towns for the duration of playing the game. However I was given a mission by the english governor-general to abduct the spanish governor-general from santiago. I was also told I could loot the city at my own will. so after I cleared the streets of soldiers all i can really do is capture the governor general and go back to my ship.
How do u loot the city?

Should give you a loot screen similar to the loot screen when you capture a ship. Should come up once you have finished capturing the town.

Again, conjecture based on how things work elsewhere in the game.
