Have you tried deactivating all anti-virous/malware, defender and superfluous programs? I use an AMD optimizer so that my system is maximized. Sometimes this will loosen this problem up. Give it a try.

Have you tried the No-CD that GameCopyWorld has? I had the same thing happen a couple times, and it disappeared once I started using that.
Download the file I've attached to this message, then extract the two files that are in it. You can just delete the reloaded.info file. Copy and paste the dvm.dll file into your Age of Pirates 2 install directory, overwriting the one that's already there.
The game should now start and run without the CD.

For how to crack games? I don't know of any. I probably couldn't link to them anyway - I'm guessing that violates the forum TOS.
The only guide I've used is this one: http://forum.pirates...t-walkthroughs/ .
As for sailing in the wrong direction, here's the map of the gameworld: http://img7.imagesha...2323/aopmap.jpg .
There's also the Tips thread: http://forum.pirates...he-tips-thread/ .
As for ships being slow and horrible, you could be captaining a vessel that outclasses you. Smaller ships are a pain in the ass in big battles, but you can usually outrun your enemies in them, too.

The file in post #6 worked for others and myself. You just drop it into your COAS folder and let it overwrite the old one.
thanks ill give it a go and let you know
