Build12, changing cannon fog/smoke

DarrenJay

Landlubber
Hi guys,
I want to change the "realistic" fog/smoke of the shipcannons (when firing the cannons) in to the origin one of potc!
I've Build12 installed!
How can I change it?

kind Regards

P.S. No match found under search function

Welcome te PA mate,ye can change chance of fog in POTC program/build setting_h folder under misceallanious settings,current setting is 30.

Here Nathans instructions fer decreasing amount O' smoke
Anyhow, to make the smoke less.
Two steps.
One, open programSea_AIaiBalls.c
Find line
Code:
PostEvent("CreateParticleSystemPost", 300, "sffffffl", "cancloud", fX, fY, fZ, -fHeightAng, fDirAng, 0.0, 20); // now done as post to not hide fire fx

Change the 20 to the duration you like (stock was 12).

Two, open resourceiniparticlesparticles.ini
Find line
Code:
; NK `04-09`-21 make life longer. Orig lifetime = 4000
lifetime = 20000

change back to 4000, or any duration you like.

I've got a question, too:

Is there any way to make the smoke blow in the direction of the wind? Can you even set a velocity on particles?

Not sure O' that mate,never realy noticed which way de smoke blows,although I'd be notice'n if thars no wind,de smoke consumes me whole deck an can't see much at all,One O' de modders could probly help ye out wid that question <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

thank u
but step 1 doesn't function, cause i'm not finding your quote in aicannons.c <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Edit: ok it's in aiballs.c <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
but it's only changing the duration of the smoke not the animation, its still the big white smoke! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I want the "origin" one...

I've a similiar question: Can I make it constantly smokey/foggy in a room? Perhaps by defining it as an outside location, then locking the weather to fog (what would be the code for that?). I tried "model location effect" waterfall fog, and that did indeed fill the room with fog, but for some reason also made everything but the bare foor walls of the room disappear...

I actually find the bright glowing "fluorescent" smoke at night really unrealistic and annoying, could a "dark" smoke be modded to replace this at night?

Hmm just noticed code may be wrong in this line
; NK `04-09`-21 make life longer. Orig lifetime = 4000
lifetime = 20000

I think it should be to comment out top line
// NK `04-09`-21 make life longer. Orig lifetime = 4000
lifetime = 20000

Alan great idea fer fill'n a room with smoke,kinda bizare it would remove walls an ceiling,hopefully Nathan will be around soon te help with yer question an Admiral8Q as I have no idea

No, that code is correct, ini files use semicolons as comments. The two slashes would probably crash it. [EDIT] Well, it appears that the two slashes work too. Wierd. [/EDIT]

Wait, whoa. I had no idea all these ini files existed. Maybe *that's* why some of my changes have no effect. Which of these are used? Cannons.ini seems to be ignored, but if particles.ini governs particle speeds... hold on, I might be able to make smoke blow in the wind after all...

Hi Darren,
I´m afraid I can´t be very helpful to you, but you may be so to me. What version of PotC do you have? I´m asking because I´m looking around for it, but I´m afraid to catch the feared "Ubisoft" version. As far as I know, there are two german versions, one of them in a blue box labeled Ubisoft Exclusiv. So, which one do you have, for it appears to work with build 12.

hiho,
i'm sorry i've purchased this game about 1 year ago <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i think its the ubisoft version but im not sure, cause my gamebox doesnt exist anymore <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
I would post a screen of my curent "smoke" but i've no webspace at moment...

Thats the smoke from my curent version (build12)

Hi, Skull and others. Only today I managed to find it and reduce intensity of smoke from 20 to 10 because first I find it inthe file AICannons.c. But I didn´t try it yet. But the time of smoke presence I reduced quite a long time ago from 20 000 to 1000 only and I had enough time to check it. For me it is good now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

please explain me how to reduce the intensity of the smoke <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Do exactly what Skull writes here above (second post). I think it is quite clear explained here. And number 20 reduce as you want. I hope It will be working I didn´t check it yet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

That's the problem it doesn't work!
Pls view the pics above!
I want to change the cansmoke form the first pic into the smoke of the second pic! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

Hm, hm, I must try. So use this second thing as I did and change this value in file particles.ini from 20 000 to 1000 only as I did. It is quite be bearable then. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
