It has taken a lot of sweat and tears, but finally Build 13 is here! The full 368 MB download is now available from my site. Smaller versions to be installed on top of Build 12.1 and on top of the original Pre Build 13 Base version are to be released some time later, but it might take a couple of days (a week perhaps) to get those done.
Now that Build 13 is finally done, we can now turn our eyes to the future. There are several new mods that have already been done that we can assemble into a new modpack add-on for Build 13. Once we managed to fix the bugs with these new mods, we could release this pack as Build 13.1 which should add yet more improvements over Build 13, but should still be a stable release.
We will also need to think of new things to pursue for Build 14. What do we want? Several things that have been mentioned are making the officers play a bigger part in the game and making the player more involved with the goings on aboard his ship.
One less pleasant thing with this release, though, is that it illustrates that my time of actively supporting the Pirates of the Caribbean modding community is drawing to an end. I am following an education to become an officer aboard a merchant ship and I have been accepted as cadet officer with the Holland America Line cruiseship company. This means that I will be gone for 150 days starting this February. During that time I will not be able to do much for PotC. The ships do have Internet aboard, but I don't expect to be able to find much spare time for supporting PotC still. Until that time I will be rather busy with schoolwork as well, so I won't be able to be as active as I once was.
This is why it will be very important for us to figure out a way to continue without me being very supportive. Somebody will need to take up the position of modpack compiler. Whoever that person might be, I will try to support that person until I have to leave for sea. The modpack compiler will need to have some knowledge of programming and will need to put all mods people make together, but this is relatively easy using WinMerge. This person will also need access to webspace to upload the files to. Anyway: We need to figure out some ways to continue PotC modding, because I don't want to return from my 150 days of sailing only to see that everybody is gone. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
But for now it is time to celebrate and play! Major thanks to everyone who helped in making this release possible and thanks for all your support. It has been an honour to work with you all. Now enjoy Build 13! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
