90% average review vs. this forum

I am curious in that most posts in this forum have been very negative about this game. However most reviews have been positive.

I am begining to think that either we are too picky, or the professional reviewers did not play the game long enough. Perhaps we were all expecting so much more?

Either way, I want to say that this game is jus tplain FUN, which is why I play games.

I just wish I would see more positive posts on this board that sall.

End of rant.

Both, I guess.
I enjoy the game, though I was extremely sceptical about it, but it won my heart overnight when I finally got something more than just cartoonish screenies.
In my opinion it's being overrated at the moment by the reviewers, because this game is not perfect. It has the potential to became that, but it depends on whether firaxis is willing to do something about it. But with all these reviews why should they even bother? And I have to admit that even as it is, it's probably the best pirate sim at the moment and it is FUN to play. It's just that there's always room for the improvement <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
 
there is no way this game with all these gameplay issues deserves a >9.0/90% average rating. That kind of rating is for games like Warcraft III. Sire/Milady I know Warcraft III and this ain't no Warcraft III.

A lot of problems become apparent after playing for a while (ie more than 5 min). I agree that for what it is, it is a lot of fun to just go plunder ships, and dance, and fight (the ship battle needs fixin), the subpar quests I can do without.
 
I don't know of any ship battle issues that need fixing.

I think that there are many more people out there who love the game than post here. People who post here do it because they have something to say. And, as is usually the case, people tend to complain louder than they praise.

But yes, there is always room for improvement. I have a long list of nitpicky things - but nothing that really affects game play at all. IMHO
 
Oh hell yeah, there's always room for improvment. I still think it's a hell of a lot of fun too! I haven't met any gameplay issues that have kept me from enjoying it though.
 
I think he's refering to the fact that games like Warcraft is extrmelly polished and detailed and have virtually no bugs. It's obvious to anyone to see that Pirates and Warcraft are different kind of games.

Anyway, I think everyone on this forum is being to harsh on this game. The game does have a few bugs and could have been better but I for one love it and can easilly understand why it's been getting such great reviews. This is really addictive and the gameplay is really fun. I'm sure the high reviews are due to those factors and not the technical side of it.

I myself would give it a 92% just for the fun factor alone.
 
I like `old-c64`- fan can say that I got exactly what I expected, It wos clear to me that Iam gona get a REMAKE with nice `make-up`. I love this game ( some positive views) because it takes you closest to living the life of pirate then any other game in the market, and you live it on such fan way, yes it could have more depth but when i start to play I yust forget about things thet bothering me because of...........FUN <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

..P.S.( Yust a thought )Its all about money so i think that they left a numerous of ideas for part 2, Its like they said ..ok lets go out with the remake , and then after geting enough feedback from gamers we will hit them with extension, then the sequel..Yust a thought

Personally, I can only hope that we can another version in a few years. This is a franchise that has been ignored TOO long!
 
Ill say this:

The only bugs ive encountered have ALL been due to MICROSHAFT..er...Soft XP service pack 2 related usage of my computer resources, such as taskmgr or rundll using 99% of my processor time for no apparent reason and causing a hang. I have been able to avoid this by immediately `alt-tabbing` and setting Pirates to above normal or high processor priority.

This Game is one of the best Games i have played in a Very Long time. Granted, it has its issues but it is still a very good game. It's a good game, for the first 2 hours, heh. I hope they add alot of content in the next patches because at this point I felt like I had my fun spent after 2 hours, The repeated animations sucked, when I "killed" my first top 10 pirates, I was so excited for the next to see what sort of ending animation I would get, so I board black beards ship, I duel him, I beat him, and what do I know? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> It's the same animation over and over again......... thats only one reason why I was dissapointed with the game.

Another fact is that you don't have much control of the game, features wise in gameplay, I mean you cannot control how many men are allowed on your ship onces they are on, unless you let them die off during combat, Once you get a captain title for any nation, you can kill them as many times as you want without them ever trying to get you back!?!, you cannot raid a town by sailing into it? No contact with your crew at all, I mean I have no attachment to my men for any reason, for all I care, they can be taken off to england and hung, why? Because theres no reason to do so, your "skill" pirates never die or leave, your crew does not "level up" so I don't put any time into them etc etc etc

I'm with Unmerciful Bastard. I got just what I was expecting: the old classic with a new facelift. Therefore I am pleased with the game. It has issues, but (as has been said plenty times before), what game doesn't? And none of the issues are detrimental to gameplay. Even Warcraft 3 had issues when it first came out.

You can't really abandon your crew - which is about right, becuase it would tend to make you somewhat unpopular.

If you are bad enough, ANY nation, no matter what rank you have, will start to come out to get you. They are called Pirate Hunters... and they get downright pesky!

And yes, you can raid a town by sailing into it. Just press spacebar a few times as you sail in, and then you'll be able to initiate a land battle.

Yes, there could have been lots of things done differently, but I still think it's a great game.
 
Why should you not be able to let 50 crew members go at will? I think it makes perfect sense. I am bad enough to every nation and they don't come after me, I'v sunk more british and spainish ships then I care to count (500+) and they still don't come after me unless I don't have a rank in their nation, they say they don't like it when I vist the town, but they never do anything. I don't want a "land battle" I would prefer fighting the fort from the cost instead of playing commander on a battle field.
