Solved 2 Questions

i have 2 questions, in Martinique Cave (NOT the Dungeon), this symbol is on the floor and it says "you have no use for this item." ive always wondered what is this? and my 2nd question is, if i have more men on my ship what role does that play good or bad? i ran into a spanish expedition of 6 ships, 1 MoW, 2 Battleships and 3 other ships, i had my companion, attack the MoW since he has one, and i went after the battleships, took the 1st, but lost all my men in the 2nd boarding, so does having more men in boarding actions help or does it hurt?

1/ The symbol on the floor is quest related i believe.
2/ Normally the more crew you have the faster you ship responns to you commands. if you have 1 crew member you ship will most liekely just sit there, if you have a full compliment then it will manaurver, reload and alter sails faster. The more crew you have seems to alter you chances. Im sure youve noticed if you have 500-800 crew and you board a smaller 6th rate ship (class 6) with 30-40 crew. Whilst boarding you have around 20+ crew fighting and the enemy has around 3-4.

Assing to crew size, if your ship say's she can hold 530 as she does in the above imagie and you add more crew causing the value for the amount of crew to change to red (meaning your ship is over crewed) you can cause the morale to drop for the crew causing a bigger chance of a mutiny on your hands. Make sure you have plenty of rum and increase the rations to reduce or even stop the morale dropping.

ok thats what i thought, if you had a crew limit of 530 and you had 650 on your ship you were more likely to have mutiny, thats why i max out but never go over. TY for the help.

The symbol on the floor is part of the Ascold "Mummy Powder" Quest.

more crew than normal= more soldiers for boarding, and counter losses.
= slow (over weeks) dropping moral. to the point of mutiny.

k got another question, i keep the swords, guns and books i take in the different areas of the ship chests, do i actually need these? cuz the weapons i buy in the store are the ones used for boarding actions right? not the ones i have in the chests?

what? LOL wtf u doin :)
Hell no!
what you have in the screenshot there are the weapons YOU are supposed to use.
The captain, and also his 3 Bodyguards/Fighters.

You put them into chests on the ships, and all they do there is lie around and get rusty.
Sell them as fast as you can.
And be careful when filling up the chests on your ship like that: when you seell the Ship, will your stuff be gone too?

For boarding actions, in the shop you buy weapons, but from the same menue that you buy your cannon shells, food, rum and medecine from. the "mass cargo" menue...

Imagine you have a HMS Victory or so, and need to manually buy swords and cutlasses for 800...900...1000 Fighters. woah...

right now i have a Golden Hind, class 4, with 10,880 hold limit, crew of 450, so i can get alot of gold/silver when i attack convoys, just took a 7 ship convoy of spanish galleons, 2 only surrendered, while the other 5 i took in boardings. never can seem to find class 3/2 or 1's anwhere. :cheers Ty for the tip, ill sell them. i keep 3 of every book, so i can give it to my officers when i have to replace them, if i fire them i take their stuff back, (ammo, meds, books)

firstly i believe that the ships you encounter are based on what rank you are. also, i do not believe that the dutch have a 1st rate manowars (they have a cargo varient that doesnt look to good) and i think the pirates are limited to either 2nd or 3rd class ships. I have noticed that the higher your bounty/wanted level the stronger the ships sent after you. If your attacking trade convoys they dont normally have cargo shis above 3/4 class. the escort vessel(s) may be higher. I hope you dont mind me asking, What level are you?

Just the way i do, with one distinction:
he works for me, and i give him the tools needed. Tools include guns, swords, armor, potions, bullets. Tools also include teaching and basic books. These tools remain the posession of the Crown i am Sailing under, borrowed to him for the duration of his duty.

However, i must Respect the person that works for me. This means he gets his original equipment back, should i decide to fire him.And usually a bunch of useless spoons forks, jars, smaragds and diamonds too, if he served for prolonged time in battle. The man should be able to start his own business and buy a house when he leaves.

i let him keep his sword/gun if he had one when i hired him, if he only had a sword, and i had to buy his gun/ammo/meds, then i take those back along with the books, when i let him go. right now all my officers have 4barrel guns, 30 ammo, 30 meds/armor and books. should i give them anything else?

with a 4 barrel gun they'll use 30 bullets very quickly i'd rais it to 40-50 and keep a good eye on it.

when i board a ship with defensive gunners, thy sometimes have a b'buss and 300 bullets I pick up the bullets and send the entire lot to my fighter A, B or C. that way i am completely tranquillo about that subject :)
