Thanks..
Well.. decades of experience in programming helps.. imagination, determination, creativeness.. and finding the time whenever I can!
Plus - working while not at the computer - planning and writing it all in my head first. If you can do all that then anything is possible.

Busy cleaning things up, adding in volumetric audio, some better AI (layered animations now). Finishing off Islands, putting their tasks in for main and side quests, along with dialog now. There's about 30 different conversations to have now. That will grow, along with the tasks. Iv got a plugin now that tells me some stats, an interesting one is the number of props placed by hand - about 20,000! (My poor index finger!)

Very soon I am looking at installing some good video editing software (HitFilm4), and using NVidia ShadowPlay, and capture some clips of gameplay/story/action, add them all up and make a promo video.

I have also asked my friends who own a creative consultancy to come up with some ideas for a title front screen.

I have also selected some professional music sound tracks for use in the game which will be purchased soon.

Testing on various machines will commence after I have completed the last stage of the game and integrated all the sound.

Buying stock music for your game? Where do you get that from?
If you want your game to be more unique, you could consider getting someone to write some music instead.
We've had a whole bunch of people write music for our Hearts of Oak project already, which is probably one of my favourite things to come out of that so far!

@Flannery is our resident expert on all things musical.

Hey, and thanks for the mention Pieter :)

If you are interested in some unique music that is definitely something we can talk more about.

I have been a professional songwriter, artist and composer for 20 years now, and have quite some merits on my portfolio. (Two awards, several top 10 listing in my country, where 2 were No.1)

My last finished assignment was creating the soundtrack for the meritted game "Life is Feudal"

I will send you some samples in a PM and you can listen to it and then judge for yourself if you would like to talk more about it or not.

Hi, Thanks I imagine getting someone to write music over buying stock music will be considerably more expensive..

With @Flannery, you may be lucky. The music he wrote for Hearts of Oak so far has been very reasonably priced. :rofl

Since he indicates being interested, I'd suggest at least talking to him and find out the possibilities.
Then at least you'll know for sure. :doff

It is true that unique music is normally allot more expensive - but there is a very important reason for why serious dev companies actually invests in unique music.
Because to most loyal players and fans the music is just as important for creating the right atmosphere as storylines, shaders and dialogue.

And it has been inherited from the psychology of film music.

Just think about it yourself - any great game or movie you have seen or played normally has a world known soundtrack to it. It goes together with all other elements of development like a glove.

Although i am a business man, I am also a idealist who has a passionate flame burning for Age of Sails and Medieval games.
If I was not I would never have offered to volunteer for Hearts of Oak - first as a composer, then as a Coordinator for the music and SFX team - and now also as one of the project leaders. But of course when i made the score and recorded the music for Life is Feudal I did of course get payed, and payed quite well.

Deals and contracts for music score are just as diverse as there are cultures in this world, so we can always talk more and look at the possibility. And who knows, maybe we find a deal that we both like and can live with :doff
I will send you the samples later tonight when I am back home from my travel.

On another note.. I have watched the Sea of Thieves trailer.. and for some reason.. for all its brilliance..
I probably shouldn't let it stop me from finishing as I know I can't make a game as good as that..!

You aren't actually making the same game, right?
If you think it may be a bit too similar, what do you think is the largest overlap? Maybe you can think of something simple to change to set your game apart?
Definitely don't let it stop you! You've come too far.

I have gone too far, and it is a very different game, slight similarities of course, the thing with games is there's always a thirst for new ones, as people play ones to death they get bored and want the next one. Maybe games which are not made by major cooperation with 5 dev studios pouring millions into a game have a certain appeal, in that it wasn't just made to make money, but made because the developers have a real interest in making a game in their own image of what it should be like.

Thank god my stubbornness and endless patients!

Latest additions:
Port Workers, marauder tribes, more books to read, new story lines worked out, replacing some bad props with simpler smarter ones. Finializing the flora and fauna on one of the main islands. (Above and below ground). I have a week off next week so I am setting some tasks I want to get done, so that the islands are done in terms of their core functions.

Just a low res one. Its done in Illustrator so its vector, so I can scale it up for the title screen (and branding logo ect). I pondering what else goes on there, I have done lots of variants, none of which I am convinced of! Don't want it to simple or it looks a bit amateurish, and too busy looks tacky and overdone! A subtle blend of information, beauty and enticement to click Play! (Or Continue of course)
