Al-right, let's try to narrow this down then. I made a comparison between that PROGRAM folder and the Beta 3.4 files.
Then I placed the files I consider to be most likely to cause the lag in the attached ZIP. So please do the following:
1. Make a copy of your smoother-running Beta 3.3 install
2. Extract the attached ZIP on top
3. Find a heavy test case and let me know if it got worse again

You may want to find a heavy test case that DOES run smoothly before extracting that ZIP.
That way you can use the exact same scenario to check the difference.

AWW man..........I kept playing after finishing the main quest and deleted all the old saves like Cozumel. It doesn't really matter as it lags and stutters and has poor frame rates while absolutely nothing is going on. Here are some screenies of the battle for Bridgetown. You can tell 3.3 from 3.4 just by the frame rate.

It crashed while initializing. There is no compile log but there is an error and system log.

Damn, indeed that isn't right. And I've ran out of time to try and sort it.
Will have to be tonight.

Very well, let's try that again. With a different approach this time.

I made a comparison between @Hylie Pistof's PROGRAM and RESOURCE\INI folders and the Beta 3.4 files.
Then I placed all code I consider to be LEAST likely to cause the lag in the attached archive.
And this time I actually did it a bit more carefully and the game should actually start up with this....

So please do the following:
1. Make a copy of your smoother-running Beta 3.3 install
2. Extract the attached archive on top
3. Find a heavy test case and let me know if it got worse again

You may want to find a heavy test case that DOES run smoothly before extracting that archive.
That way you can use the exact same scenario to check the difference.

Ok, but I will say again that I don't need a high stress situation to notice the lag. It is always there.

EDIT: @Pieter Boelen I copied the 3.3 install I am playing so the new one is starting from the same place with the same ships.
The lag at sea is gone! I can tell no difference between the 2 installs anywhere except in the shipyard. The scrolling ship menu is still very jerky.

One other thing I noticed was that the soldiers in the tavern who are always stopping me to tell me to leave them alone now have no dialog. This is fine with me but might bother others.

Will this cause problems if I try it in my 3.4 install?

Still no lag then? Good to know!

Tomorrow I'll include some more Beta 3.4 code so we can find when the lag returns.
That is what I want to know, because then we'll know the real culprit and should be able to fix it properly.

Forgot about your shipyard thing. So that one did return now?

Anyway, the file I posted is not a proper fix; that is yet to come when I actually know what causes it.

So just to make sure I get it absolutely right...

Your game die not have lag at sea. After overtaking the file above, it still doesn't.
However, you did get a laggy shipyard interface now.
That is probably because of the ship sale price fix. I'll see about removing that again tomorrow.

Not sure what is up with that soldier thing, but that is probably because I just dumped all Beta 3.4 dialog files in there.
There is probably some incompatibility there, but that should get solved as we go on.
For now I was focusing purely on that sea lag to start out with.

Yes. I copied the good 3.3 game that has no lag and installed your files. There is still no lag at sea but there is in the shipyard.

The soldier dialog is just an extra clue.

@Hylie Pistof: Next step! Same as before, extract on your smooth game version.
This is based on the previous version, but now includes MORE Beta 3.4 code, most notably the improved smuggling.
I also removed the shipyard sale price fix again, figuring that is the most likely cause for your interface lag there.

So if I did well, with this file sea should still be as smooth as Beta 3.3 and the shipyard interface should also be smooth again.
If you can confirm that, we can continue for the next step. :doff

An oddity. The standard storyline with "player" can not be loaded and there are no saves showing, but the La Croix storyline has saves and can be played. A different name is used there.

Will do, but I did play La Croix for a bit and it is ok. Nice and smooth everywhere.

Another oddity. Before I deleted the options file I looked in profiles and found the standard storyline one, and it seems to work.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

So we're probably good to continue here? Will continue then tomorrow.
How about the shipyard interface? Is that better again?

So smuggling is good and performance is good. Standard storyline error is already included, but at least we're making *some* progress.
