Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3 Progress

Ok but putting to nil fullscreen ,does that mean iv got to play whole game in window mode?? Iv been playing lafeat story for few hours been around town, into houses, taverns and shops and the jungle and frankly seems to be working ok.Not been getting anymore freezes or crashes except what i mentioned on that pop ups from desktop thing. Nathaniel scene in ship had ash grey textures, kind of looked like it had been convered in volcanic ash.Cannons on deck gray too. rest seems ok. Yep might be some texture problem. I think we should ask about Denmark and Colombia if they should be put into the game, certainly both where historically in carribean unlike USA and Portugal. For Denmark i know a new island that of st thomas would have to be made from scratch. Colombia use cartagena and maybe put some town like portobello or even panama(later became indie)or santa margarita island. You could name them by some other name in the period bolivar was fighting the spanish, remember bolivar also helped santo domingo become independent and even helped haiti a bit or haiti helped them. Lafeat worked for cartagena and also for Britain and was actually an enemy of the USA but for convenience sake he helped the US in the battle of New Orleans. He also had served the french before. He was never loyal to anyone and had an indie sort of thing in the swamps. For the future maybe create some land up north and maybe that would be some US southern port like miami, the keys or mobile or galveston. Its hard work, ill try help and see who wants to contribute as concept for future versions. The way forward but this ideas are also good for heart of oak.

For your nation-related ideas, consider that you need:
1. Full set of soldier uniforms
2. Fort, Merchant and Navy flags
3. Worldmap animated flag, spyglass flag, Sail-To flag
4. Ideally, something to make that nation unique in the first place

Then as for additional islands, we've just added Cartagena and that is the first new town we did in several years.
Adding "more" is one thing. But giving it an actual purpose is a different story.
In the case of Cartagena, it was deliberately added for the purpose of the Bartolomeu storyline anyway.
But it is a lot of texture work and coding work either way and risks breaking stuff we spent a lot of time on getting working in the first place.
Probably best to leave that particular stuff for after a stable Build 14 release. :shrug

Yes here. The launcher actually seemed to extract to the same folder the launcher is in and i had to copy paste, then(yes windows 8 security thing i would think)it was giving me problems and said specially with textures it was being used by another program or something.Had to go into the folders one by one.
Windows Security Stupidity strikes again. That explains all the missing files you've got, because a LOT have to be deleted, renamed and copied.
The installer takes care of all that just fine. As long as Windows lets it.
What folder are you installing to? If Program Files, try something else. For example C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean or something.
Try to find some folder where the security will let the installer do its job. (And curse you, Windows Security! :boom: )

For windowed mode, set screen_x and scree_y to your desktop resolution.
Looks like fullscreen, but you can go in and out of the game as you please.

Okay, I experienced two crashes.
Oh and I noticed this one(standard storyline) on the beginning of the game. seadogs2_0000.jpg (after malcolm suggested to equip weapons)

First crash:

*I used "chinese junk" as my ship(standard.Storyline)
  • I finished tutorial with malcolm to see if something's funny and the picture at the top is the only one that seems not right.(i have experienced this before from wip18 and didn't get the chance to tell it)
  • Killed several townfolks for better weapons/money/exp/etc.
  • Managed to have 3 saves
  • Then there's that moment when I encountered one of those random townfolks that have 300+ hp
  • Ran to closest building(shipyard) and
  • :boom:

Second Crash:

  • Okay, so I reload a save
  • Killed several townfolks...again
  • Collected a bit of better weapons and exp
  • So I decided to start killing those monks to free trapped souls + they give good money and sword but most of all fame:cheeky
  • Then this one happened: Clipboard01.jpg
EDIT: I uploaded my saves(if it would help)

I just finished installing everything from the first post, and it all seemed to work as expected.
Created a new folder for the install files and downloaded them straight to it, then pointed the installer to my C:\Game Files\PotC- New Horizons directory and let it do its stuff.
No manual copying of leftover files needed, and the game works properly with the latest updates (notably the interface changes) clearly visible.
So based on that, Windows 8 appears to be behaving itself without letting security mess things up.

BUT... upon starting the Sea Hawk storyline, the French fleet failed to appear, with a quests_reaction.c error.
It did work second time round, though.

Played again and I got a quest_reaction.c error too. I forgot to take screen shots. Thank goodness there's no crash this time but I got a lot of error notifications.
This one is when I will report the gov about the french attack. seadogs2_0000.jpg it took me a little while to report to the gov 'cause I did a lot of delivery quests to earn more money and reputation and that's when other error notifications occur. I forgot to take screen shots along the way when the errors showed up.

EDIT: Sorry for the bad picture..hehehe:p its not like that in the game..its just a bad shot. xD I used F8.

What are those black squares all over the place? I'm up to level 10 with no crashes to report.

Oh that's nothing. Its a bad shot. hehehe:p even the water when i make a shot using F8, it'll turn black.

I got those crashes before I defragment my computer. Right now, I'm just getting those error thingy's. But I don't know, maybe my intel hd graphics has still some effect on the game even with the fix or some other reasons. :shrug

Nothing in those logs to show us why something like that would happen, I'm afraid. :(

Indeed you're right; that quest case doesn't even exist. Very strange. I'll comment out the line that calls it for now. o_O

For crying out loud, that SetFrenchSoldiersForOxbay error is EVIL! I am now officially sick and tired of it and will try to fix this in a nicely simple way:
The function is being REMOVED and the code just goes directly in quests_reaction.c .
If the function doesn't need to be called, the game can't crash out if it can't find it either. I hope that finally really DOES put an end to that crap!

Also.... I wonder what would happen on the Woodes Rogers storyline. That uses SL_Utils.c too. A bit in a different way, but still....

Ahoy Pieter,

I am not seeing any effects of the update which leads to believe that I am still doing something wrong on installation. I am just extracting the zip file to my game folder is that correct or do I need to use the new installer some how?

Put the 7-Zip and installer in the same folder, then do the same as for the full install.
No need to manually touch the archive file; the installer takes care of that. :doff

PotC stores water and some other stuff in alpha channels for some reason when you make a screenie. If you still use IrfanView, go to "Options" -> "Settings/Properties" -> "Viewing" and uncheck "Show PNG/TIF/TGA/DDS alpha/transparent colour". Should be all good then.

Okay, I'll try it. I don't why I am having so much trouble with this process.

Glad to hear it! That's exactly what should be happening.
I do wonder what is troubling these other people though. I can think of no other way to make the installation method more fail-safe. :facepalm

I'm sticking with an older version until I finish these fleuts (3 down, 2 to go) but am wondering if the pirates are showing their flags properly now. I suspect that what was wrong with the Petros flags is doing them the same way.

Is it save game compatible? Bytheway manually installed the folders that supposed missing and still get that texture faults with nathaniel's ship.I'll try again and see or it could be some setting in the nvidia card. Yes i know just suggestions for a newer version for future.
