Does someone know how to turn on debugger in this game? Thanks in advantage

Hi everyone
I found it here http://pirat-seawolf.com/board/index.php?showtopic=249 (webpage in Russian), I think someone has found a way to extract the file PROGRAM but the StormExTractor.rar is impossible to download. Someone comes he has decripté how he did? Sorry for my english.

1) - You need to be logged in to the site to be able to download the file.

2) - if you are logged in & the download still does not work - probably the file has been removed since the post is over 6 years old ( posted in 2006 )

:cheers

Hey, are you still stuck? If you want I can record a video how to get out of the first town. With no spoilers, just what dialog options to choose, where to go etc. Just lemme know.

Russian versions of Corsairs NEVER had Program folder, these files are always hiddenly packed and ciphered (?) inside other game resources.
Some people installed no-dvd patches upon a LEGAL copy in order to get this directory.
English versions always have this directory.
I don't know why -- maybe different copy protections (StarForce in Russian versions), maybe different laws for end-user agreement...

Not sure it's worth waiting ;)
(some spoilers below)
1. It's impossible to capture a colony for yourself (again!)
2. There are no national line quests (only 3 national variations during one quest, "Dutch gambit")
3. Many of new questlines are... let's say... quite strange :)
For instance, "Regatta", where you have to sail in TACTICAL map between isles with tons of s/l to get good wind. People are saying they spent 3 days of REAL LIFE to complete this quest, just watching the monitor in x6 time :)
4. It's hard to play. Firstly it was "hardcore" mode for CoAS for hardcore fans, then it was decided to release it as standalone title.
5. CoAS is still there with the same map just with another name, Island of Justice :)

P.S. Mary "Red" Casper is pretty nice ;)

If it will be on Steam, then hell yes. I can't even get CoAS in my country legally (bought from ebay once, only to get scammed :\). If it gets on Steam, I am buying few copies, just so they know that Russians aren't the only one that love these games. And by the way- hello everyone ;)

So this sounds like they are trying to make COAS less of an arcade game and more realistic? Cool! :keith

So your opinion is that no one should ever do anything unless it is perfect the first try.

So your opinion is that no one should ever do anything unless it is perfect the first try.

And it is your opinion that making a game more tedious magically makes it more real, regardless of historical or technical fact.

Can you see why I wouldn't like that last post now? I would appreciate it if you would refrain from putting made-up words if that nature in my mouth, thank you.

HOOCOTS "reality" is probably very broadly defined.

Look at your criticism from the other direction. HOOCOTS will be very tedious for the same reasons too.

"Hardcore" for more challenge and more interesting gameplay, or just for players to suffer more -- quite different things ;)

Sorry, my weak English does not allow to convey that message colorfully enough

P.S. BTW, I quit PO:TEHO after few days and returned to CoAS + GoF again.
Of course, new interesting models were ported to GoF ;)

In fairness to our Russian friends I think that Akella never intended the Corsairs series of games to be "realistic". In fact I've heard a couple of them say so publicly. I think they were going for a certain artistic interpretation of the historic timeframe and genre.

I find this interpretation very charming and their talented artists just keep getting better and better. I see an almost Howard Pyle- like quality to many of the settings and characters.

I have had discussions with some of my friends in the industry that find it amusing that I still center most of my gaming effort around a 2006-09 era game when there have been so many new improvements in game graphics in the last few years AND new games.

When I have them actually look at and play the game - and observe the somewhat artistic comic book cartoon settings for themselves ---- and then I explain that there is nothing better out there in this genre --- they understand, and they usually find it almost as charming as I do.

In fact I have made several quiet converts in the last year. Who do you think is beta testing for me for ERAS.

I would still play this hardcore version in English and I think a lot of others would as well.

Last I would just say. "Don't call my (OUR) baby ugly." :D

"Hardcore" for more challenge and more interesting gameplay, or just for players to suffer more -- quite different things ;)

Agreed - making things difficult, just to make them difficult & not making them more enjoyable - is not good :no

Like in COAS having to board 10 Man of Wars to find sometiing in a cabin of one of them is not enjoyable gameplay for me.

I assume they are ship models - I hope the new location models are original :read

@bna- I have seen player's character on the rooftops in one of the trailers. Does it mean they implemented jumping/climbing ability? :bounce

More realistic? POTEHO?
Very funny ;)

Yes, there are no more skeletons and Flying Dutchman in the game.
But there is MAGIC!
Three magical schools: church, native and "household".
Tons of magical amulets and talismans that are "wearing out" after couple of days.
New Alchemy perk for magical crafting.
Receipt scrolls, tools and expendable magical ingredients that you have to find.
Very strange that there are no elves in the game but maybe I just haven't played long enough ;)

Some ingredients are extremely rare and you have to find them in map locations.
Extremely rare -- meant predefined number of them generated at the start of the game.
For instance, some "magical grass" -- it's just a grass with white flowers, you have to search EVERY SINGLE location of the archipelago in order to find some quantity of it.
It looks like "common" grass with few visual differences and locations are random. Torn grass never restores.
Or Colt revolver instead of shotgun ;)
Cartridge crafting require unique ingredient mercury fulminate, so you can craft only few predefined number of shots during the whole game (if you are lucky enough to find all mercury fulminate generated).

Finding of Aztec tablet and Capper's key -- I hated most in COAS.
In POTEHO this is a MAIN part of gameplay: just pixelhunting in the locations, hours of aimless running between locations, hours of x6 sailing at tactical sea map.

That is what is meant by "Hardcore". Not difficult battles or hard obtainable gold as you (maybe) imagine ;)

Plus only one playable hero and no pseudo-heroes at all.
BTW, HeroDescribe.txt is still there and has lots of heroes, but limit to 1 is somehow hardcoded.
No more P.I.R.A.T.E.S. system. It still exists but is not visible to player now.
You have to choose one of predefined sets for hero and cannot change anything. No character generation screen.

Sorry for long post ;) I also hoped that new title can breathe new life into old Corsairs, but…

2 Talisman: I meant new characters from POTEHO that I’ve added to GoF as playable heroes.
2 Yeti: as far as I remember there are no new movement controls. Maybe it was some sort of scripted scene?
